Full Coverage, Game 61: Senators @ Wild

The Senators come in with two notable stats: they are on a five-game win streak, and they did nothing at the trade deadline. In fact, the Sens didn't make a single move all season, unless you count terminating Jakub Culek's contract and signing Brad Mills to a two-way deal. Craig Anderson returns from IR to back up Andrew Hammond. Besides that, Curtis Lazar looks to draw back in for Colin Greening. Here are the projected lines: Hoffman - Zibanejad - Ryan Michalek - Turris - Stone Condra - Pageau - LazarPuempel - Legwand - Chiasson Methot - Karlsson Wiercioch - Ceci Borowiecki - Gryba...

Senators still a budget team despite Methot signing

Marc Methot has been extended on a four-year deal and that means the local defenceman no longer has to face the recurring question in the city and Ottawa Valley. “Are you going to sign?” Methot, 29, whose Ottawa roots turn a contract negotiation into daily discourse at the coffee shop, looked more relieved than elated […]

D Marc Methot Re-Signs With Ottawa

UFA-to-be defenseman Marc Methot re-signed with Ottawa this morning, weakening an already shallow defensive free agent pool. The Ottawa Senators announced earlier this morning that they have re-signed stalwart defenseman Marc Methot. The 29 year old Methot was facing unrestricted free agency this summer and after a week of  constant negotiations saw the parties agree to a 4-year, $19.6 million dollar contract extension, bringing Methot's new AAV to $4.9M. Coming into the season, Methot was thought to be a prime candidate to be moved at the trade deadline as his reported desires in a...

Methot signs four-year, $19.6 extension with Senators

Marc Methot is staying put in Ottawa. The Ottawa Senators signed Methot, to a four-year, $19.6 million contract extension on Monday, keeping the defenceman from testing the unrestricted free agent market next summer. Methot and the Senators were on a deadline of sorts, aiming to get a deal done before the March 2 trade deadline. […]

Marc Methot Signs 4-Year Extension

It might be a holiday in Ontario, but the Sens took the time to announce that Marc Methot would remain in the family. With Bobby Ryan, Craig Anderson, and Clarke MacArthur signing during the offseason and Jason Spezza traded in July, Ottawa's significant 2015 UFA class had just one big name remaining: Marc Methot. After a summer of disagreement and public negotiations, things had been quiet on the Methot contract front for most of the season while he was out with injury. Back in action and looking great with Erik Karlsson, the Sens and Methot finally ended the speculation this morning,...

Senators, Methot sign four-year deal

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Marc Methot to a four-year contract extension — a deal that comes with a 4.9 million cap-hit in each of the four seasons. Methot would have been a free agent at the end of this year. Negotiations between the Senators and Methot’s agent Mike Liut resumed late last week […]

Pending UFA: Marc Methot

A look at what the Sens should do with Methot as the trade deadline approaches. Is there a more polarizing player on the team right now than Marc Methot? I would say no. On the one hand, he has been Erik Karlsson's most reliable partner. The defence corps is a whole lot better with Methot in the lineup. On the other hand, he's probably not worth five years at $5.5-million, and his back injury that kept him out for most of the season is a reason to worry. Some people say he should be signed for what he wants, because the Senators really don't have a better option for top-four defence, and...

Drama builds toward D-day for D-man Methot

BUFFALO • Marc Methot is one of the Senators local heroes. He grew up in the south end, playing minor hockey for the Ottawa Sting and Canadians; in his youth he cut a figure on local outdoor rinks and his father, Al , managed the three ice pads of Minto Arena, where Marc and his […]
