Where Should Fredrik Claesson fit in the lineup?

Where Should Fredrik Claesson fit in the lineup?

With Marc Methot out for the foreseeable future, what could the D pairings look like? With one slash last night, the Sens left D situation got a fair bit shallower. Marc Methot will be out for weeks, which means Fredrik Claesson is likely to draw in to the lineup. The question becomes where, and how the defensive pairings will get shuffled around. The first, obvious thought is to pair up Claesson with Chris Wideman. At 84 minutes of 5 on 5 together, Wideman has been the most common partner for Freddy this season. They’ve done reasonably well together too. While they have benefited from...

Marc Methot out “weeks” with finger injury

It’s the Sens’ fourth finger injury of the season. You all saw the footage. And if you haven’t, viewer discretion is advised. After taking a seemingly mild slash from Sidney Crosby in tonight’s 2-1 shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Senators defenseman Marc Methot took off his glove to reveal his bloody finger. He left the game and did not return. As per Guy Boucher’s post-game conference, Methot will be out for “weeks” in Ottawa’s final stretch towards the playoffs. Sens Dmen Providing Offense While Forwards Deal with Injuries

It’s not just Erik Karlsson that’s racking up the points on the back end. On their recent three-game road trip through the Southwestern United States, the Senators scored 12 goals; 6 of them were by defensemen. While everyone is caught up in the hoopla surrounding the team’s brand new forward depth, the blueliners have quietly been key contributors to a season-high six-game win streak. “It’s huge,” said Marc Methot after today’s morning skate. “(It’s) another example of the depth you need on a hockey team when you want to do some damage in the postseason. I was saying...
