Should We Be Worried About Gaborik's Groin?

The Cannon — Though Blue Jackets fans were rightfully excited by the addition of Marian Gaborik, and his early hot streak of scoring, the winger seemed to be tailing off during the final week of the season, where he had just two assists over his final seven games. The news that Gaborik required surgery at the end of the season explains a lot - and the news that it was an abdominal (read: groin) issue isn't too shocking, either, since he's battled abdominal issues all the way back to his time with the Minnesota Wild. What raised my eyebrow, though, was the report from Thursday's Dispatch where Porty...

How Important Is Ryane Clowe?

Blueshirt Banter — The New York Rangers made a blockbuster trade in the wee hours of the NHL Trade Deadline. They traded Marian Gaborik for Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and John Moore. But before they made that trade they made another move. The Rangers relinquished draft picks for the services of UFA-to-be Ryane Clowe. The Rangers were hoping that Clowe's veteran savvy would help add some leadership to the locker room. His 68 games of playoff experience wouldn't hurt, either. Oh, he also excels at the type of hockey that John Tortorella loves. He crashes the net, goes to the tough areas of the ice, is...

Hockey Wilderness — 1,852 That's the amount of days it's been since the Minnesota Wild had last clinched a playoff spot, back on March 30th, 2008, in a 3-2 overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche. Marian Gaborik scored the game-winner against Jose Theodore, who would eventually oust the Wild in 6 games. In the 5+ years since the last time the Wild clinched a playoff spot, there's been a massive amount of turnover. We've seen two opponents in that game, Andrew Brunette and Jose Theodore, become players we cheered for on the Wild. We've said goodbye to two old friends in Derek Boogaard and Pavol Demitra...

Blueshirt BanterDerek Dorsett is rapidly becoming the forgotten man of the blockbuster deal that sent Marian Gaborik to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
