Oilers defenceman Fistric nervous about becoming an unrestricted free agent

Edmonton Journal — Edmonton Oilers defenceman Mark Fistric knows he’s being graded during the last two weeks of the regular season. Do the Oilers want to sign the unrestricted free agent (UFA)? Ryan Whitney, Theo Peckham draw onto Edmonton Oilers blueline tonight against St. Louis Blues

Edmonton Journal — There was a better than 50-50 chance Edmonton Oilers’ coach Ralph Krueger was thinking of getting his pressbox sitters Ryan Whitney and Theo Peckham in against the faltering St. Louis Blues Friday anyway because “I don’t like to have guys out of the mix for too long” but injuries to Mark Fistric and Corey Potter in Dallas Thursday made his decision easy. Two out, two in.

Daily Links: Dallas' Depleted Defense Will Be Put To The Test

Defending Big D — When the Stars traded away Mark Fistric to the Edmonton Oilers, it had two very large effects on the defense. First, it made room for some of the younger kids to play in Dallas, instead of spending more time in the AHL. So far, this has paid off fairly well, with Brenden Dillon and Jordie Benn proving that they can handle the responsibility. Dillion has been an absolute gem of a find up to this point, playing top minutes with Robidas, and leading the defense in goals scored (three). While Jordie Benn has not been given the same levels of responsibility, he has shown the ability to l...

  • Sharks beat Oilers in regulation, then do it all over again in the shootout
It's always struck me as a bit of a pointless battle to rail against poor officiating in the NHL. Theoretically, the bad calls even out over the course of a season and, despite the protestations of tinfoil hat-touting Red Wings fans, there is no systematic bias against certain teams. But sometimes a call is so awful and has such far-reaching implications on the outcome of a game that it can't be ignored. Mark Fistric wasn't interfered with by Ryane Clowe at the Oilers' blueline four minutes into the third period tonight. He fell over while attempting to stay with the onrushing Clowe, w...
