Mats Zucarello isn’t scoring goals and he’s still worth his weight in gold

Mats Zucarello isn’t scoring goals and he’s still worth his weight in gold

November 15th was the last time that Mats Zuccarello scored a goal that wasn’t an empty-netter. Since then he has one goal, an empty-netter in Texas, in his last 29 games. And believe it or not, that’s just fine. Zuccarello may not be scoring goals like he was last year, but he is still creating offense and contributing. There’s little doubt that he is one of the Rangers’ best forwards and that goes far beyond his counting stats. As we approach the midway mark of the year, I thought it would be worthwhile to take a look at where the Rangers’ goals are coming from at even strength. For some context, Mats Zuccarello, Derek Stepan and J.T. Miller...

Game Preview: Avalanche kiss 2016 goodbye against Rangers

Game Preview: Avalanche kiss 2016 goodbye against Rangers

Another game, huh? Cool. There are many reasons 2016 has been the worst year in recent memory and one of those reasons has been the absolutely putrid play of the Colorado Avalanche—both down the stretch last season and most of the past two months. At long last, they can kiss it goodbye. Banish this nonsense to hades where it belongs. But first they have to play the New York Rangers, one of the NHL’s best teams, with a record of 25-12-1 (hey, they don’t win in OT either!). Leading the way for the club are a quartet of forwards—Derek Stepan, Kevin Hayes, Mats Zuccarello, and Chris...
