The Avs Are No Fun To Watch

The Avs Are No Fun To Watch

Here is a burning hot take. This has been a very interesting month and a half for the Colorado Avalanche. Expectations going into the first game were fairly high. Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene had just had extremely successful outings in the Word Cup. New head coach Jared Bednar entered the job fresh off an AHL championship and with an attitude and coaching style that seemed to be perfect for this club. At first, things started off really well. The first two games against Dallas and Pittsburgh were really fun, exciting games. The Avs trailed 2-0 in the first period of each game, and...

Avs’ Matt Duchene returns, scores winning goal

Matt Duchene scored 1:49 into overtime in his first game back from a concussion, helping the Colorado Avalanche beat Columbus 3-2 on Monday to snap the Blue Jackets’ seven-game home winning streak. J.T. Miller scored shorthanded to cap a three-goal second-period rally as visiting New York overcame an early two-goal deficit. Jamie Benn scored from the left face-off circle 1:23 into overtime for host Dallas, which had lost nine overtime games in a row — including five this season — over the past two seasons. Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist and Cam Talbot stopped 31 shots for...

AJ Greer Re-Recalled by the Avalanche

The Avalanche have once again recalled AJ Greer from the Rampage. This is an easy one since he will join the team in Dallas coming in from San Antonio, presumably sometime tonight. It’s anyone’s guess why, other than the fact that he was effective in his NHL debut on Sunday vs Boston. Matt Duchene is dealing with a concussion but seems ready or close. Gabe Landeskog is reported as “banged up” and took a maintenance day today. Coach Bednar made no mention of this in his presser today, but the AHL wire has the transaction already. Stay tuned, more as it develops.
