Matt Duchene likely out for playoff series against the Wild

While it doesn't feel like it after Game 1, the Wild have caught a break. It's not overly surprising, but Saturday before Game 2, Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said center Matt Duchene, the Avs' regular season points leader, likely will not play in the opening round series against the Wild even if the series goes to a Game 7. In addition, Colorado third line center John Mitchell isn't progressing from an injury, Roy said, and may not return for the series. "I don"t think we will see Matt in this series," Roy said. "I would be very very surprised. He hasn't started skating yet. I don't thin......

Avalanche vs. Wild, 2014 Playoffs Round 1 Game 1

Define your meaning of war To me it's what we do when we're bored I feel the heat comin' off of the blacktop And it makes me want it more Because I'm hyped up out of control If it's a fight, I'm ready to go I wouldn't put my money on the other guy If you know what I know that I know It has definitely been a long time coming. Fans of the Avalanche have suffered deeply for years, forced to pick another team in April to support. While it hurt, however, it netted the Avs some pretty valuable assets in Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, and Nathan MacKinnon. Those draft picks have elevated...

The range in age among the four is only five years. The range in personalities among Avalanche forwards Gabe Landeskog, Ryan O'Reilly, Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon is much larger.

Avalanche at Blue Jackets, Game 75

The Avalanche look to increase their points lead over the Chicago Blackhawks despite the loss of star center Matt Duchene. Well folks, home ice advantage in the first round just got even more important. With the loss of Matt Duchene, the Colorado Avalanche are going to want every advantage they can get over the reigning champion Chicago Blackhawks. Matt Duchene has been an enormous part of this team's resurgence so far and quite frankly, the man deserves to be a part of the Avs playoff run. These boys are going to need to rally around eachother harder than they have all season, and...

Monday was eventful at Family Sports Center, with the Avalanche announcement during practice that Matt Duchene would be out about four weeks because of his knee injury. How the Avs can still beat Chicago without Matt Duchene

Hey, chins up folks, chins up. Let me, the optimist Adrian Dater, talk you off the ledge here. No, losing Matt Duchene for a month or so isn’t a good thing for the Burgundy and Blue’s playoff chances. But in a short-term situation, in a seven-game playoff series, possibly with home-ice, the Avs can withstand […]

Matt Duchene of Colorado Avalanche out four weeks with knee injury

By Allan Muir Despite a solid 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks, the Colorado Avalanche took a couple of lumps on Saturday night. Center Ryan O’Reilly lost his bid to make it through the entire season penalty-free when he was called for, of all things, playing with a broken stick. (Come on, stripes, it […]

Duchene out 4 weeks

Coulda been worse... The Avalanche just announced via Twitter that Matt Duchene will be out four weeks after injuring his knee in a collision with teammate Jaime McGinn early in the first period of Saturday's game against the San Jose Sharks. While it may seem 4 weeks isn't much, it's the rest of the season if the Avs dont make it past the first round of the playoffs. Without Duchene, that's going to be tough.
