Silver Seven — What follows is how the legend of Jean-Gabriel Pageau was born. Eager to put Game 2 behind them, the Senators made two line-up changes ahead of their first home game of the playoffs. Montreal also made changes, with Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta returning to the line-up after missing Game 2 with injuries. The addition of both Pacioretty and Gionta meant this was a stronger ...

Why the line of Matt Kassian, Zack Smith, and Chris Neil worked

Silver Seven — The Ottawa Senators ended a five-game losing streak by beating the Philadelphia Flyers by a 3-1 score. Although many were calling for the removal of little-used enforcer Matt Kassian from the lineup, he stayed in--and, in fact, was promoted. And he was part of a line that, surprisingly, played a significant role in the win. Without a doubt, it was Kassian's best game as an Ottawa Senator, and he played a career-high 11:03 in it. He also finished the night with a Corsi* of +6, while linemates Zack Smith and Chris Neil were both +7. In the past, Kassian was never fully trusted by Paul Ma...

Ottawa Senators fight back to win 5-3 over Islanders

Silver Seven — Chalk this one up as a game the team was pretty fortunate to win, but points are points and the Ottawa Senators put two of them in the bank with their 5-3 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. Aside from a tough first shift, the Sens carried much of the play in the first frame, culminating in Matt Kassian's first goal with Ottawa when he tipped in Sergei Gonchar's point shot. Late in the first Keith Aucoin scored a weak five-hole goal on Ben Bishop, though, and the teams were squared at aces after one. The second was almost all Long Island, as they scored two goals (Josh Ba...
