Shorthanded Wild suit up assistant coach Darby Hendrickson for practice

Darby Hendrickson hasn’t played in the NHL in more than a decade, yet there he was skating with the Wild during Monday’s practice at St. Thomas Ice Arena. This is what it’s come to for the cap-strapped Wild so early in the season. Already without Mikael Granlund (groin), Charlie Coyle (broken right fibula), Nino Niederreiter […]

An injury plagued Wild finds a 5-2 victory over the Blackhawks

Minnesota came into Thursday night already hurting for forward depth. With Mikael Granlund nursing a lower body injury, and Zach Parise with, who the hell knows, the Wild’s first game against the hated Blackhawks from Chicago would put not just a dent, but a huge fricken gouge into the Wild top nine. But the Wild’s leading scorer, Chris Stewart, of all people, would score two goals en route to a gutty, gritty 5-2 victory. During a scoreless first period, the Wild, which had lost nearly all of its defensive structure in the second and third periods of the Carolina game last weekend,...

Chris Stewart scored two goals to lead the way and Devan […]

Why don’t the Wild have a fourth line? That’s the $200,000 question

Why don’t the Wild have a fourth line? That’s the $200,000 question

No Zach Parise. No Mikael Granlund. No problem? Not exactly. With both players injured and out for Thursday’s measuring-stick game against the rival Blackhawks in Chicago, the Minnesota Wild are down to 11 healthy forwards on the roster, leaving them shorthanded up front for the second straight game. They were forced to fill the hole […]

Wild’s Mikael Granlund expected to miss next four games

Mikael Granlund’s groin injury will keep him on the shelf a little longer than expected. “I think Granny is going to miss the next four games,” coach Bruce Boudreau said Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after saying he hoped it was a short-term injury. “It’s a day at a time with him.” That means Granlund […]

No surprises - Matt Dumba takes top honors in our Top 25 Under 25 series

No surprises - Matt Dumba takes top honors in our Top 25 Under 25 series

The worst kept secret at Hockey Wilderness, Matt Dumba is good. Was there ever really a doubt Wilderness? With Charlie Coyle, Nino Niederreiter, Jason Zucker, and Mikael Granlund all aging out, the top 5 was left wide open and a deluge of young tale fell into the void. Not that he was not deserving of this honor. He took home top honors in our 2015 series, and in 2014 he came in 5th. Last year he slipped to 3rd behind Coyle and Nino, but now he’s back! Matt Dumba, your 2-time Hockey Wilderness top honors for exemplary hockey’ing and being under 25 years old. There’s a trophy,...

Jonas Brodin comes in at #2 in the HW T25U25

Jonas Brodin comes in at #2 in the HW T25U25

Jonas Brodin hopefully loves roller coasters. Last year he was all the way down at #5 in the T25U25. Yes, he was out-shown by Mikael Granlund, Matt Dumba, Charlie Coyle, and Nino Niederreiter (all but one of whom are now too old) but nonetheless; Brodin was down. He even dropped a bit, after coming in at #4 in 2015. He was there in 2014 as well, right behind Spurgeon, Nino, and Granny. Brodin has never been a particularly offensive defenseman. The drop to 5 last year wasn’t unexpected. Brodin, formerly called “Kidstrom” had failed to develop even a hint of an offensive talent. After...
