Silver Nuggets: On to the Next One

Silver Seven — Firstly, and let us get this out of the way right off the bat, the Ottawa Senators must play better in the second round than they did in the first if they have any hope of advancing. That should be helped by a couple extra days of rest that the Senators earned themselves. Milan Michalek is obviously not right. He doesn't have the jump we are used to seeing, and he did not factor into this series positively at all. Hopefully some time off will help him. Colin Greening, one of the only players not to record a point in the series for Ottawa, hasn't been practicing with the team. Daniel A...

Ottawa Senators annihilate the Montreal Canadiens again - win series

Silver Seven — [Game Summary] [Event Summary] [Faceoff Report] [Time on Ice] [Corsi] [Zone Starts] [Shift Charts] How about that? When Erik Karlsson went down in early February, joining Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek, Jared Cowen on the injured list, most observers including yours truly wrote off the season. Oh well, it is a short season. Just a couple of months of pain and we get a high draft pick and our star players return healthy for next season. Right? Wrong. The Senators not only never fell out of a playoff spot, but got three of those four players back, and then proceeded to eliminate the #2 se...

There is only one change from the team that won in Boston, with Eric Gryba coming in for Patrick Wiercioch. Here are the lines and pairings from the Senators website. Canes @ Sens

Canes Now | News & Observer — OTTAWA -- There are a number of competitions being held tonight at Scotiabank Place. The Senators lead the Canes 3-1 in the hockey game after second-period goals by Milan Michalek and Chris Neil. Then there were the fights. There have been four through the first 40 minutes. The only clearcut win may have come from Neil against the Canes' Tim Gleason in the final seconds of the second. Finally, the Sens lead in open-ice shots to the head. Defenseman Jared Cowen knocked Canes forward Jeff Skinner out of the game in the first period, putting a shoulder into Skinner's head. The Canes' only goal...

Friday Night Open Thread

Nucks Misconduct — It's great that the banged-up Canucks were able to get a couple days rest (and a chance to acclimatize in Denver) before tomorrow's noon (awww, sonofa...) game against the woeful Avalanche. Lots to talk about in the meantime, as in the East, Ottawa has gotten Milan Michalek back in the lineup and are up 2-0 on New Jersey. The other 5 games are in the West and all have some playoff implications. St Louis and Columbus are tied 1-1 in the 2nd, Dallas is up 1-0 on Nashville in the 1st, Chicago and Detroit are about to face off in a possible first round matchup and Phoenix continues it's...
