Blackhawks vs. Islanders: Win streak on the line against Nick Leddy, New York

Jonathan Toews is playing as the 'Hawks look to extend their win streak against Nick Leddy and the Islanders. The Chicago Blackhawks will try for a ninth consecutive win Saturday against the New York Islanders with captain Jonathan Toews returning from a tough hit Thursday night in Boston that caused him to miss the third period. Toews suffered the injury in the second period of Chicago's 3-2 win over the Bruins after going head-first into the end boards following a check from Boston defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. The 26-year-old star forward, who has a history of concussions, was held out...

Nick Leddy excited to face former team

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- After four seasons and one Stanley Cup win with the Chicago Blackhawks, defenseman Nick Leddy admits that it's going to "be weird" facing his former team Saturday night as a member of the New York Islanders. But he's mostly looking for two crucial points as the Islanders look to snap a three-game losing streak. "It will be a lot of fun. Playing against your buddies is always a good time," Leddy said. "The past few games we haven't had our best games but we're looking to get back on track tonight.

Islanders Gameday News: Leddy Reunion; Conacher cut loose; Crosby's condition; Brunner bolts and Farewell, Flåbuse

When streak and slump collide! FIG picks for tonight's game against the Chicago Blackhawks can be registered here. Game time is 7 pm. Don't pick Conacher. Islanders news: Bargain signing but frequent healthy scratch Cory Conacher was placed on waivers yesterday and we'll know at noon if he's bound for another NHL city or Bridgeport. Here’s a look at how some former recent Chicago Blackhawks are doing with their different teams: Nick Leddy, defenseman, New York Islanders, traded October of 2014 The Blackhawks traded Leddy prior to this season because they needed to get under the salary cap. Leddy, 23, has adapted to a new team nicely for the Islanders. He has five goals, four assists, is a plus-7 and has averaged 19:28 of ice time in 19 games this season. He leads the Islanders with a 59.

Van Riemsdyk's injury impacts Hawks' defensive depth

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks' greatest concern entering the season was their defenseman depth. The Blackhawks lost a dependable defenseman when they traded Nick Leddy in order to get under the salary cap before the season. It left them with two unproven young defensemen in Trevor van Riemsdyk and David Rundblad and an aging veteran in Michal Rozsival. Van Riemsdyk exceeded the organization’s expectations to start the season and his play as of late made it easier for the Blackhawks to move on from losing Leddy.
