RECAP: Bruins lose on home ice in Game 7; St. Louis Blues win franchise’s first Stanley Cup

First Period The early advantage went to the Blues. A good 30 seconds of zone time followed by a great clear put Boston on their heels early. The Blues were absolutely looking for any and every edge under which to pry, and the refs let it all go. Boston, however, was very much the more creative team to start the game. Only a few minutes in, smart passes - most crisply from Matt Grzelcyk, returning from concussion - and some solid offensive zone possession from Noel Acciari, Joakim Nordstrom and Sean Kuraly (with a bit of Brad Marchand sprinkled in) hemmed he Blues back for a good chunk of...

We’re not going to have to deal with Kelly Sutherland in Game 7

We’re not going to have to deal with Kelly Sutherland in Game 7

The league is sticking with what (most people thought) worked in Game 6. According to the ever-interesting @ScoutingTheRefs on Twitter, Game 7 was scheduled to be officiated by Kelly Sutherland and Steve Kozari. You know, the same Kelly Sutherland who in Game 5 watched Tyler Bozak take out Noel Acciari with a blatant trip and decided to swallow his whistle, leading to what would stand up as the game-winning goal. As you can imagine, many Bruins fans weren’t happy with the prospect of Sutherland coming back, though one could argue that Sutherland might subconsciously favor the Bruins after...

Should Noel Acciari face discipline for hitting Robert Bortuzzo’s fist with his face?

Should Noel Acciari face discipline for hitting Robert Bortuzzo’s fist with his face?

There are lines that shouldn’t be crossed, folks. Hockey is a physical game during the regular season. During the playoffs, the intensity level goes up a notch. During the Stanley Cup Final, it goes through the roof. Sunday night’s Game 6 saw plenty of physicality both ways, but things boiled over late in the third between Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and Bruins forward Noel Acciari. The incident: Look at this garbage. pic.twitter.com/yy4Ady1jkl— Stanley Cup of Chowder (@cupofchowdah) June 10, 2019 Difficult to watch. In this clip, you can see the Bruins continue a trend from...

Berube, Blues offer measured contrast to Bruins after game five

Berube, Blues offer measured contrast to Bruins after game five

Chief, Bouwmeester, Pietrangelo, and Steen discussed last night’s win today. By this point, I think that everyone is aware of Bruins’ coach Bruce Cassidy’s feelings on the officiating in game five, and probably game four, of this series. He’s still steamed about the missed trip (or assumed by-product of Tyler Bozak playing the puck, depending on who you’re talking to) on Noel Acciari that lead to what would be David Perron’s game winning goal. There hasn’t been much discussion of how the Bruins’ top goal producers aren’t producing, or how the team stopped skating while...

Charlie McAvoy should be good to go after his blocked shot

Charlie McAvoy should be good to go after his blocked shot

It was a scary sight, but it looks like the kid should be okay. Late in the third period, the Bruins were cruising to a Game 3 win, but the Blues had pulled their goalie (again) and were peppering the net with shots. One of those shots ran into Charlie McAvoy; more specifically, it ran into the inside of his left knee: (Link) As you can see from the clip above, McAvoy’s block eventually led to a Noel Acciari goal, but it also led to a whole lot of discomfort for McAvoy. McAvoy skated to the bench doubled over in pain, remained doubled over on the bench, then headed down the tunnel after...
