Pavel Datsyuk is ready to take on Connor Carrick as a student

Carrick is getting his wish. Connor Carrick is still trying to carve out an NHL career for himself. He's only 22, so he's got plenty of time - but every little bit counts. Every day you work, every advantage you can take. So when Carrick found Pavel Datsyuk's skills development camp, it was a no brainer: he had to get in, even if it was only for kids. And hey, what would you know - Pavel Datsyuk is willing to take him on. Hey Connor, @Kuzya92 and I have a spot for you in the PD Skills camp: the youngest group is waiting!@connorcarrick pic.twitter.com/W4EVe8zJqe — Pavel Datsyuk...

2015-16 Pensburgh Recap: Evgeni Malkin

Looking back at an interesting season for Evgeni Malkin: who was hot early when the team was cold and then injured late when the team was hot Age and Contract Status Age: Turning 30 (!!!) in 2 weeks (DOB: July 31, 1986). Under contract for six more years at $9.5 million cap hit per season, which lasts until 2022. At that point he will be about to turn 36 years old, and it is way too soon to speculate what his future holds. Maybe then he retires, or goes the Pavel Datsyuk route taking his family back to Russia, or even decides to sign on for another year or two for NHL duty. That's way off...

Predicting Red Wings 2016-2017 Lineup: Top-six Forwards

As we inch closer and closer to the 2016-2017 season, we look to speculate on what this Red Wings team could look like. I think the general consensus amongst the fanbase is that it could be a long, long season. Losing a player like Pavel Datsyuk isn’t going to set in until we actually see the team play. Datsyuk was arguably one of the best possession players the analytics era has seen. He was the straw that stirred the drink in many cases. It is quite literally impossible to replace him. So what can we do to optimize what we have? We’re going to do a five-part breakdown of the Red Wings...

Red Wings Development Camp Is Full Of Talent

It's already the third day of the Red Wings 2016 Development Camp, though it's the first day for me. Each year is a little bit different, and this year the theme is more is less. There's less on ice practice time, and the prospects are split into two groups and practice at the same time on different rinks. As an observer it's a little hard to keep up with the amount of action packed into a short time period, and I'm not able to watch everyone as much as I'd like. That being said, there was plenty to take in during this morning's practice; in preparation for tonight's scrimmage. I had eyes...

Darren Helm Re-Signs With the Red Wings

Darren Helm is still a Detroit Red Wing, having agreed to a 5 year, $19.25M contract. The AAV for this contract will be $3.85M. Darren Helm is a Detroit Red Wing still. Will sign a five-year deal with a salary-cap hit of 3.85 million a season. — Chuck Pleiness (@wingsfrontman) July 1, 2016 There's not a lot to say about this right now. It's not the worst cap hit in the world, but like with Justin Abdelkader, the concern is giving 5 years to a 30 point guy who is 29 years old. There's no Pavel Datsyuk to hitch Helm to, so where he plays next year and for the next 5 years is a mystery....

Red Wings seek scoring, grit in free agency

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings averaged only 2.55 goals per game in 2015-16, their lowest output in a full season since 1976-77. Then they lost their most creative talent, Pavel Datsyuk. Scoring is a huge concern. Solutions include getting...
