What A Treat: Detroit Red Wings 5 - Los Angeles Kings 2

Happy Halloween everyone! I was not able to catch basically anything of the first period, and only watched patches of the second period, but, I was able to watch the third period. The game, at least the portions that I watched, was very enjoyable yet turbulent. But, despite having some bumps, the game ended with a sound outcome. The Wings won, and grabbed two points against the reigning Stanley Cup champions. The first period was a great one for the Wings. Gustav Nyquist began the night's scoring with a PP goal after nearly six minutes of play. Shortly thereafter, Pavel Datsyuk scored his...

Detroit Red Wings Goal Analysis: The Turnover that Turned the Game

By now, you've probably seen the Justin Abdelkader game-winner at least a dozen times. What a beautiful play to get the deciding goal in a game that decidedly wasn't really going the Wings' way last night. For many of us, we just knew when Pavel Datsyuk entered the zone against Brooks Orpik and three of his friends that things were going to be magical from there. Corey Masisak summed it up pretty well in this Tweet though: This becomes a #RedWings goal. #Datsyukd pic.twitter.com/DwP38aqMsP — Cörey Masisak (@cmasisak22) October 30, 2014 But what's not quite as obvious as that play...

Game Recap: Top Guns — Red Wings 4 at Capitals 2

Detroit's big offensive players do the job, and the Red Wings pot three goals in the third for the win . The Detroit Red Wings staged a less dramatic comeback tonight against the Washington Capitals, tying the game early in the third and finishing it off with some beauties spearheaded by The Magic Man Pavel Datsyuk. The Game The Detroit Red Wings opened the scoring for the second time in the game, though this time it would actually count on the scoreboard. A shot block missed Marcus Johansson's stick but found Justin Abdelkader's. He found Gustav Nyquist all alone with Braden Holtby. Gus...

10 Thoughts on the Penguins

Random nuggets and stories about Sidney Crosby's start, how the coaching staff is using him and more around the Pittsburgh Penguins. #1- First and foremost, everyone's heart goes out to Olli Maatta. But just think about how he knew about this diagnosis and still has played the first seven games of the season. The 3 point game on opening night. Beating Pavel Datsyuk and scoring versus Detroit. Playing 20 minutes a night. All coming off the shoulder surgery that limited him in pre-season too. All things considered, what an impressive young man. Hopefully all will go well and he will be back...

Tatar has just one point in seven games. Playing with Datsyuk could provide a spark.

What the Hell Happened Last Night?

The Penguins fell to the Red Wings by a score of 4-3 in Overtime last night. The Penguins were holding a 3-1 lead with approximately four minutes remaining at Joe Louis Arena. Then Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg happened. They're both still amazing. Really. Declining in their age? Sure. But both of those guys can still bring it at an elite level. Thomas Greiss was in net for the Penguins, and up until the end of game meltdown by the entire team, he looked really solid. He seems like a very structured goalie who is always making sure he is on his angles. He doesn't seem to leave the...

Thursday Habs Links: Referees aren't to blame for everything

Here are your daily links, including Kerry Fraser breaking down the Datsyuk no-goal, why the "Montreal factor" doesn't exist, and some updates from Hamilton. Montreal Canadiens Links Kerry Fraser explains why Pavel Datsyuk's disallowed goal was the correct call. [TSN] Speaking of refereeing, former NHL player and referee Paul Stewart writes this piece dismissing the "Montreal factor" (ie. claims that referees gives preferential treatment to popular teams like Montreal and Toronto). "I can honestly say that I never cared one iota what building I was in or which two teams were playing."...

RECAP: Habs 2 Wings 1

A point's a point, I guess. But this is a bullshit loss, honestly. Detroit was basically robbed out of two points and a win in regulation due to a lame call on a beautiful goal by Pavel Datsyuk. You can say it was legit, you can say it was bogus. I'll call it a lame call. Even without "interference," Pavel still scores there. Detroit played a somewhat decent game, but seemed to have some issues with moving the puck at times. Plain and simple, the team needs to find a way to score more goals. The defense is suspect, and if you're going to play like that, you better hope that you're putting...

Join Our Community Montreal Canadiens blog Eyes On The Prize Pavel Datsyuk makes his season debut tonight which is great for those of us in fantasy keeper leagues who didn't know whether to keep him or chuck him.
