Philadelphia Flyers will buy out R.J. Umberger

The reports proved accurate, as the Philadelphia Flyers will cut ties with R.J. Umberger in the coming days. In his exit interview with the media in late April, R.J. Umberger admitted that due to his poor performance in 2015-16, he fully expected that the Flyers would choose to buy out the final year of his contract during the impeding offseason. It's been about two years since Ron Hextall and the Philadelphia Flyers traded fan favorite Scott Hartnell to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for R.J. Umberger and a fourth round pick in 2015.
