UFAs Steve Bernier, Stephen Gionta and Ryan Carter wonder what the future holds

Inconclusive video review on Carter’s disallowed goal costly for Devils in 1-0 loss to Flames

The Devils had plenty of chances to score goals in tonight’s 1-0 loss to Calgary, but the play that stands out the most – because they were shut out for the 10th time this season – is the disallowed goal by Ryan Carter with 1:26 left in the first period. The ruling on the ice was that Carter kicked the puck in with his right skate. That was important because, according to head coach Pete DeBoer, the on-ice officials told him that the video review was inconclusive as far as whether Carter touched the puck with his stick after he kicked it. The rebound of Travis Zajac’s shot from the...

Looks like Carter will play for Devils tonight; Brunner could be healthy scratch again

The Devils are on the ice for their morning skate at Prudential Center in preparation for tonight’s game against the Rangers. Left wing Ryan Carter is among those participating and said Friday there’s “a good chance” he’ll play tonight after missing the last three games with an upper-body injury. Carter is back in his usual spot at left wing on the fourth line with Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier. Bernier was a healthy scratch for Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win over Minnesota as the Devils went with seven defensnemen. Right wing Damien Brunner appears to be the extra forward....

Carter: “Good chance” he’ll play vs. Rangers; Brodeur hoping Devils’ fans boo Clarkson, too

Left wing Ryan Carter said he felt “pretty good” after participating in the Devils’ small-group practice this afternoon at Prudential Center. Carter has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury he sustained in last Friday’s 5-3 loss in Florida. He tried to give it a go in pre-game warm-ups the next night in Tampa Bay, but could not play. “I aggravated an old injury and it needed a couple days to calm down,” Carter said. Carter said he underwent an MRI, which “showed nothing major, which was good news.” Carter sounded hopeful that he can play in Saturday...

Carter joins Devils for small-group practice; Brodeur to start vs. Rangers; Parise loses goal

Left wing Ryan Carter is among six Devils skating today at Prudential Center. Also skating are goaltender Martin Brodeur, defenseman Eric Gelinas and forwards Jacob Joserfson, Steve Bernier and Damien Brunner. Defenseman Peter Harrold., who has not played in the 11 games since the Olympic break, is not skating today because of “personal reasons.” Carter has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury he sustained a week ago in Florida. Devils coach Pete DeBoer said “there’s a chance” Carter will play in Saturday night’s game against the Rangers, but he’ll wait to...
