Brian Elliott's Hot Streak Isn't A Surprise

Stop treating it like one. Brian Elliott has had to start ten games in a row, going 6-2-2 in relief of injured goalie Jake Allen. Allen, despite a shakey playoff performance, has been the de facto starter this season, and has played very well. He hasn't out-played Elliott, though. This isn't new territory for the Blues' maligned would-be starter. Brian Elliott is the only Blues goalie who has won a playoff series in over a decade, and it should easily be more than one if the team managed to provide goal support to him. His reward? The Ryan Miller Experiment and being benched for most of the...

Rangers Vs. Canucks Recap: Miller Scores In Overtime, Rangers Top Canucks 3-2

The New York Rangers tossed 49 total shots on net tonight, but it took overtime to solve Ryan Miller's spectacular performance. The New York Rangers absolutely dominated the Vancouver Canucks tonight, and defeated them in overtime by a final score of 3-2. This game probably shouldn't have went to overtime, but Ryan Miller's spectacular performance tonight kept the Canucks afloat all night long. Thankfully, a late goal by Mats Zuccarello tied the game up at two, and J.T. Miller eventually ended the game in overtime. If not for Zuccarello's tying goal, this game might have turned into an...

[Final] Vancouver Canucks 2*, New York Islanders 1 (*SO): H. Sedin injured, Grabovski ejected, as Miller shines

Ryan Miller frustrates the Islanders all afternoon, but Ryan Strome makes sure they at least get a point out of the ordeal. Ryan Miller shut out the New York Islanders for 59 minutes on Sunday afternoon, but he would have to wait six more minutes plus a breakaway contest to be the victorious goalie of record. His Vancouver Canucks prevailed in a shootout, 2-1 (1-0), after Ryan Strome spoiled his shutout bid with 51 seconds left in regulation. Strome's was the only Islanders shot to beat Miller, who made 47 official saves plus three more in the shootout. No one put it by him in overtime, and...

Iain MacIntyre: Markstrom gaining coach’s confidence to lighten load for Miller

Iain MacIntyre: Markstrom gaining coach’s confidence to lighten load for Miller

It’s not quite like he left the crease a starter and is returning as a backup, but Ryan Miller knows the landscape changed in the three weeks while he was injured. Jacob Markstrom altered it. Miller is still the Vancouver Canucks’ No. 1 goalie. He was pledged $18 million US over three years by general manager Jim Benning before last season to fill that role, and both he and Benning plan, at this point, to see it through.

Kuzma: Dehydration in Florida cramped Ryan Miller’s style

ARLINGTON, Va. — Ryan Miller is diving into the deep end of the competition pool and Derek Dorsett may be diving into a rare first-line role. Miller returns Thursday after missing eight games with a Dec. 20 groin strain, and with the return of Jannik Hansen in doubt — he practised Wednesday but didn’t partake in line rushes or contact drills — it’s Dorsett who will start on the first line for the Vancouver Canucks when they face the league-leading Washington Capitals.

Kuzma: Could Alex Ovechkin break Gretzky's unbreakable record?

Kuzma: Could Alex Ovechkin break Gretzky's unbreakable record?

ARLINGTON, Va. — Ten years after “the goal”, the long-term goal for Alex Ovechkin isn’t as vivid. When the Washington Capitals winger was knocked down by Paul Mara on Jan. 16, 2006 in Phoenix, he slid on his back and wasn’t facing the net when he somehow hooked the puck past startled goaltender Brian Boucher. It became a YouTube sensation, and came three days after the rookie recorded his NHL first hat-trick.
