Sabres trade deadline recap: What's in, who's out?

How did the trade deadline affect the Sabres franchise? We've got a full recap right here. Once again, the Buffalo Sabres had a very active trade deadline day. For the past few years, they've been one of the biggest sellers in the NHL, shipping out franchise stalwarts like Brian Campbell, Ryan Miller, Jason Pominville, Drew Stafford, and Tyler Myers, as well as anyone with an expiring contract. But if all goes according to plan, this deadline day could be their last as sellers. The Sabres made a number of deals today, sending off any and all UFAs for some small returns and to solidify their...

Sabres vs. Canucks recap: Vancouver lacking in goal, as Sabres win 6-3

In a game where the lineup looked possibly the worst it has all season the Sabres looked the best they have all season. Peculiar. Who needs your two leading scorers anyways? Despite Zemgus Girgensons and Tyler Ennis, the Sabres exploded for six goals, one of which being an empty netter. It wasn't the best day for Eddie Lack, who was starting for Vancouver in place of the injured Ryan Miller. The two teams alternated goals up to 3-3, but the Sabres took over in the third period. Torrey Mitchell scored the eventual game-winning goal, his second on the night. This was only his second career...

Sometimes The Best Thing To Do Is To Do Nothing At All

Jim Benning should not risk the future for a few overpriced rentals. The Canucks are 7-3-0 in their last ten. They are winning and they are winning consistently against good teams. Think about that again. The Canucks are 7-3-0 with Alexandre Burrows, Alexander Edler, Chris Tanev, Kevin Bieksa, Brad Richardson, and Ryan Miller sidelined with various injuries. That's a first line winger, 2 top pairing defensemen, a second pairing defenseman, a quality depth player, and the starting goaltender all currently sitting in the press box. Yet, the Canucks are still winning. This surely speaks to...

Poised to Make a Run

Tuesday's game against the Boston Bruins was the beginning of the Canucks' playoff run. The games played have more meaning now, the locker room has a different feeling inside of it. Teams are sizing up their opponents and preparing accordingly. Ryan Miller being out 4-6 weeks has thrust Eddie Lack back into the full time starter position and I expect Eddie to stay there. Lack has a Goals Against Average of 2.47 and a Save Percentage of .921 in 21 games played. Eddie has started 15 of those games and come in relief of Miller for 5 of those games. Ryan Miller has been struggling as of...

BOSTON - The timing of the Ryan Miller injury is terrible. Normally it’s next week, after the trading deadline, that Eddie Lack is forced to become the Vancouver Canucks’ starting goalie.

Ryan Miller Out 4-6 Weeks; Markstrom Called Up

Here's the footage of the incident with Miller and Hansen: If that's not a hyper-extension of the leg...Doesn't feel very good. Miller is projected to miss 4-6 weeks, maybe longer, so the Canucks recalled Jacob Markstrom today. Markstrom has a 17-7-2 record with the Comets this season, along with a 1.95 goals against average (2nd in the AHL) and a .932 save percentage (3rd in the AHL) and 4 shutouts. He's a big dude (6'6", 200 pounds). After Roberto Luongo was traded last season I was content to go with the Lack/Markstrom combo. It didn't pan out so well as not just the goaltenders, but...

After the game, in his suit, Ryan Miller was limping. Badly. He will not be playing the rest of this trip and likely not any time soon. The Canucks are expected to recall Jacob Markstrom.

Vancouver Canucks 4 (EN), New York Islanders 0: Miller, Lack share the shutout

The Isles missed all of their chances, the Canucks buried theirs. The Vancouver Canucks survived an injury to Ryan Miller and rode a three-goal second period to hand the New York Islanders a rare home loss, 4-0. Eddie Lack was outstanding, stopping all 27 shots in relief of Miller for a combined 37-save shutout. Though the scoreline hints at a blowout and rotten egg, the story is a little more nuanced than that. Ultimately the result turned on special teams: The Isles struck out on multiple early power play opportunities, while the Canucks cashed in on two of theirs. But this was a game...

The Provies: Where there is more about Seguin, Kane and the Blockening than the game

It is not surprising to see Ryan Miller with a .913 save percentage. He is a goalie who will run hot, cold, and then end the season with a .915 or .916 save percentage, which is right about average in the NHL. In that sense, he is safe.

Wild seize control with two goals in 54 seconds to defeat Canucks 5-3

The Canucks were left playing catch-up before the Wild took control of the game with two goals in less than a minute during the 2nd period. The Xcel Energy Center as been known as Vancouver's house of horrors, and that certainly proved to be true on Monday night. The game started with one of the more eventful first periods the Canucks have been a part of this season, but unfortunately it was for the wrong reasons. The Wild scored early and often against Ryan Miller, scoring five goals on 18 shots in less than 30 minutes to send Miller to the bench early. Eddie Lack did his best to clean up...
