Edmonton wins lottery again, Leafs get 4th overall

The results are in and the Edmonton Oilers will, as we are accustomed to at this point, draft first overall. It's official. Connor McDavid will be an Edmonton Oiler, and Jack Eichel will be a Buffalo Sabre. The Oilers, who held an 11.5% chance at winning the lottery, 2% better than the Leafs, have won the lottery for the fourth time in recent years. Previously, they selected Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Nail Yakupov. Edmonton Oilers rule Nail Yakupov, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins out of world hockey championships

Both Nail Yakupov and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will miss this year's men's world hockey championship in Prague. The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday afternoon the forwards will not take part in the annual championships due to injuries.

Nugent-Hopkins misses game with week-old foot injury

Edmonton Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins played two games in California last week after taking a wicked Jarome Iginla shot off his foot at Denver last Monday, but he left Rexall Place in a protective boot after being a late scratch against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Edmonton coach Todd Nelson said Nugent-Hopkins is day-to-day, but the days are running out. There are just three regular-season games left for the Oilers.
