Report: Sheppard trade done in part to give Hertl more time at center

21-year-old sophomore expected to see more time at his natural position. With their playoff chances growing faint, the Sharks' trade earlier today of James Sheppard to the New York Rangers for a 2016 4th round pick marked the beginning of what should be an interesting 18-hour fire sale period for San Jose prior to tomorrow's noon Pacific trade deadline. It's pretty safe to say Sheppard won't be the only Sharks player who will have moved out of the Bay Area by the time the puck drops for a game between the Sharks and Canadiens tomorrow night. Beagle show: Capitals upend Sharks in overtime

A pair of goals from the wookie didn't hold up against a pair from the Beagle as the Sharks ended a three-game homestand without a win. The Sharks got a point out of their homestand, but that's all as San Jose fell to the Capitals 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday night. It was a close game, possession-wise, throughout but two goals from Brent Burns and a late equalizer from Joe Thornton weren't enough to survive the Jay Beagle show in San Jose. The trouble for San Jose started when the starting lines hit the ice — with the dreaded Burns and Scott Hannan making up the top defensive pairing to...

JOHN SCOTT SCORES A GOAL (also the Sharks lost to Calgary or whatever)

Bow to your new overlord. In his ongoing bid to be named the Sharks' next captain, John Scott fired his most significant salvo yet, scoring his second goal of the season to notch the first multi-goal campaign of his career since 2008-09...when he was in the AHL. Also the Sharks lost to the Calgary Flames, falling to third place in the Pacific Division and putting them in jeopardy of dropping out of the top three all together with a loss tomorrow. But Scott scoring into an empty net off a cross-ice pass from none other than Scott Hannan, along with the Flames win pushing Los Angeles seven...

13-round shootout leaves Sharks with loss

After right wing Joe Pavelski gave the Sharks a 4-3 lead with 10:32 left in the game, the Oilers struck at 17:23 when defenseman Justin Schultz slipped a wrist shot from the right circle under the pads of sliding goalie Antti Niemi. Pavelski scored his team-leading 27th goal and second of the night in dramatic fashion, dropping to a knee just to the left of the net to line up a long shot-pass by defenseman Brent Burns from the right point. Defenseman Scott Hannan joined the rush to tap home his first goal in 73 games past Edmonton goalie Viktor Fasth thanks to a nice centering feed from...

Your daily assortment of links to news and analysis from around the hockey world. Neither Tye McGinn nor Scott Hannan, both of whom were injured in the Sharks' win over Chicago on Saturday, skated yesterday and it's questionable either will play in tonight's game against Edmonton.
