Trocheck, Jagr power Panthers to 4-3 win over Blue Jackets

Cats post 20th victory of the season; creep closer to playoff spot Red-hot Vincent Trocheck scored a goal and added an assist and Jaromir Jagr scored the eventual game-winner early in the third period as the Florida Panthers held off the Columbus Blue Jackets for a big 4-3 win Saturday at the BB&T Center. Shawn Thornton scored his first of the season, and 100th career point, by one-timing Aaron Ekblad’s pass by Joonas Korpisalo to open the scoring 8:22 into the action. The Blue Jackets countered with a power-play goal from Scott Hartnell and an unassisted marker from Cam Atkinson after a...

Jackets Gift Wrap Two, Fall To Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. – Even in the throes of their 16-game winning streak, the Blue Jackets weren’t playing well enough to gift-wrap goals. They certainly don’t have that margin for error right now. On Saturday, the Blue Jackets turned sloppy in the second period, allowing the Florida Panthers to grab control en route to a 4-3 win before an announced crowd of 14,795 in BB&T Center. Scott Hartnell, Cam Atkinson and Boone Jenner scored for the Blue Jackets, who lost two of three on this road trip. Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, subbing for a sick Sergei Bobrovsky, had 28 saves. But he’ll take to...

Production Needed: Lesser Roles For Jenner, Dubinsky

Boone Jenner has been dropped from the second line to the third line, replaced by Scott Hartnell. Brandon Dubinsky has been dropped from the second power play unit, replaced by William Karlsson. There comes a point where a coach has to stop wondering and waiting for players to get going offensively, and start look for other solutions. Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella made it 40 games into the season. "It’s a little bit of a push for them," Tortorella said before tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Amalie Arena. "It’s great to say, 'Yeah, I’m getting my chances!' Yeah,...

NHL | Blue Jackets: This is no ordinary fourth line

ST. PAUL, Minn. — John Tortorella was extolling the work of the Scott Hartnell-Lukas Sedlak-Sam Gagner line Saturday afternoon when he stopped himself in mid-thought.

Hard To Define, The Hartnell-Sedlak-Gagner Line Produces For CBJ

ST. PAUL, Minnesota – John Tortorella was extolling the work of the Scott Hartnell-Lukas Sedlak-Sam Gagner line Saturday afternoon when he stopped himself in mid thought. “If you look at the fourth line – I mean if you want to call it that – I don’t even call it that anymore,” the Blue Jackets coach said. Tortorella, a leader consumed with the idea of franchise identity, isn’t sure what to make of this opportunistic, hard to define trio. If you judge them strictly on ice time they qualify as the Blue Jackets’ fourth line. But how many fourth lines feature two players getting...

Bruins at Blue Jackets: Quick Takes

Bruins at Blue Jackets: Quick Takes

Here’s what happened. Here’s what happened: Columbus started quickly, jumping out to a 3-0 lead inside ten minutes. Goals from Scott Hartnell, Seth Jones, and Matt Calvert set the pace. Boston pushed back, scoring two goals in 55 seconds to draw within one after twenty minutes. Columbus appeared to fall asleep at the wheel and play lackadaisical with the lead, and it bit them. The second period, well. The Bruins tied it. Columbus hasn’t attacked rebounds, hasn’t played their game, has been schooled in the neutral zone, turned the puck over too much. Other than that, the game has...

Best of NHL: Blue Jackets rip Pens, win 11th straight to take Metro lead

Scott Hartnell had his ninth career hat trick and the Blue Jackets rode a head-spinning third period to a 7-1 win over the Pens, their 11th straight to take the Metro division lead.

Blue Jackets win 11th in row

Columbus’ Scott Hartnell had his ninth career hat trick and the host Blue Jackets scored four times in 3:40 in the third period as they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-1 on Thursday night. Everyone had smiles on their faces tonight, everyone is contributing, and when you beat the Pens your smile is extra big. The Penguins’ Sidney Crosby scored his NHL-leading 23rd goal. Tuukka Rask made 29 saves as visiting Boston spoiled a big night for Florida’s Jaromir Jagr, who moved past Mark Messier into sole possession of second on the NHL career points list. Eric Staal’s shorthanded goal...

Blue Jackets notebook | Hartnell spurred by incorrect call

Scott Hartnell has committed his share of crimes against the Pittsburgh Penguins, dating to his years with the cross-state rival Philadelphia Flyers. The Blue Jackets winger was a victim of mistaken identity, however, Thursday night early in the second period when the referees whistled him for a phantom elbow call against Sidney Crosby. Hartnell made no contact with the Penguins superstar. Replays showed Crosby getting clipped by the stick of teammate Brian Dumolin.
