Blue Jackets: Leopold mourns former teammate Montador

The most important item carried in the hockey bag of Blue Jackets defenseman Jordan Leopold isn’t a pair of skates or gloves or any other tools of his trade. Instead, it is a well-worn sheet of paper, filled with words of encouragement written by Steve Montador, a former teammate. Montador, 35, died at his Mississauga, Ontario, home early Sunday. The cause is unknown pending an autopsy, according to Peel Regional Police.

Yesterday morning, the hockey world was devastated by the news that another player has been taken from us far too soon. Steve Montador, who was acquired by the Bruins at the 2008-2009 deadline before moving on to Buffalo for the following season, was found dead in his Ontario home at the age of 35. A teammate of Andrew Ference and Marc Savard in both Calgary and Boston, the two took to twitter yesterday to express themselves about his death. Former Flame Steve Montador Dead at 35

A sad revelation came across the hockey world earlier today.  Former Flame Steve Montador was found unresponsive in his Mississauga, ON home at around 2:00 A.M. E.S.T. and was pronounced dead around 2:30.  Montador was only 35 and had just played last season for the Kontinental Hockey League's Medvescak Zagreb.  He also played for the Panthers, Ducks, Bruins, Sabres and Blackhawks.  TVA's Renaud Lavoie was the first to break the news.
