Fantasy Update

Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey
• Victor Hedman, D, Lightning: Tall defensemen often need extra time to develop, so it wasn’t a surprise when Hedman’s career breakthrough didn’t happen until his fifth year. The goal spike is probably tied to a little puck luck — his highest shooting percentage — but Hedman is also on pace for an absurd 59 assists. Tampa Bay needs him more than ever, in a season where Steven Stamkos has played just 17 games.

Victor Hedman gets in rare fight

You don't see this very often. Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman got into a rare fight in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Sabres, tangling with Buffalo's Marcus Foligno at the end of the second period. It was just Hedman's fifth career fight, first since Oct. 8, 2013.

Koekkoek in Syracuse means we need to talk about the Tampa Bay Lightning’s defensive pairings

Koekkoek in Syracuse means we need to talk about the Tampa Bay Lightning’s defensive pairings

On Tuesday, the Lightning reassigned defender Slater Koekkoek to Syracuse, showing that they are struggling to figure out how to best design their defensive pairings. On Tuesday, the Lightning sent twenty-two year old defender Slater Koekkoek back to the club’s AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Predictably, the move sent the fanbase into an uproar. Jason Garrison appears to be following the Matt Carle career arc, and Andrej Sustr seems to have stalled in his progression, so Koekkoek is the best shot the Lightning have to develop a capable second pairing defender behind Victor Hedman and Anton...

Erik Karlsson named to 2017 NHL All-Star Game roster

A look at the full ASG rosters It’s hardly a surprise that for the second year in a row, the Ottawa Senators’ lone representative at the NHL All-Star Game will be captain Erik Karlsson. It is a surprise that at this point in the season, Karlsson only leads the Sens in points by one. Still, he’s the team’s best player, and the game’s top defenceman, so he gets the nod. It will be his fourth time playing at an NHL All-Star Game. He’ll be joining defencemen Shea Weber of the Canadiens and Victor Hedman of the Lightning as the representative for the Atlantic Division. The Atlantic...

Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman named to NHL All-Star Game

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov and defenseman Victor Hedman are officially NHL All-Stars for the very first time. The two were named to the Atlantic Division team when the full rosters were announced this afternoon. Kucherov and Hedman are the Lightning’s top two scorers this season. Kucherov leads the team with 16 goals and 39 points in 35 games played; Hedman has seven goals and 37 points in 42 games. In a season fraught with injuries, Hedman is only one of three players to have played all 42 games (Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn are the others). All-Star weekend takes...

The Victor Hedman for Norris Trophy campaign starts now

Hedman is on pace for a career-high in points. It’s time he gets recognized. The Tampa Bay Lightning have never had a Norris Trophy winner. The franchise has never really gotten that close to it either. Not too long ago, taking an idea from Sean McIndoe of Down Goes Brown fame, we looked at what awards the Lightning might have won if the major awards were split by conference (much like Major League Baseball’s awards). In that revisionist history, Dan Boyle’s 2007 4th place Norris Trophy finish would have become an award. But in reality, that’s the closest the Lightning have come....

New Year’s Resolutions for the Tampa Bay Lightning

New Year’s Resolutions for the Tampa Bay Lightning

A new year offers a fresh start. Based on the first half of the season, that’s exactly what the Bolts need. Let’s face it - 2016 was a bit of a roller coaster for Lightning fans. A franchise record winning streak secured the playoffs, Stralman broke his leg, Stamkos got a blood clot, Drouin returned, the Bolts fell in seven games to the Pittsburgh Penguins, everyone signed amazing deals over the summer (THANK YOU STEVEN STAMKOS AND VICTOR HEDMAN!), the captain had an explosive start to the season, and everyone got injured. Now It’s 2017! This year doesn’t have new injuries or...

The Lightning come back to beat the Canadiens in overtime 4-3

After trailing 3-1 with less than 10 minutes to go in the 3rd period, the Lightning came back to earn a 4-3 victory over the Canadiens. The Lightning were finally reasonably healthy coming into the game tonight. Starting goalie Ben Bishop and captain Steven Stamkos are still injured of course. But Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat, Jonathan Drouin, Braydon Coburn, and Victor Hedman were all back to playing as normal after all had suffered varying degrees of injury in the last week. But before the game, the Lightning announced the team would be dealing with another unexpected absence as Valtteri...

Injuries mount as Lightning shut out in Washington

The Tampa Bay Lightning were shut out 4-0 by the Washington Capitals, with Jonathan Drouin, Braydon Coburn and Victor Hedman the latest to join the ranks of bruised-up Bolts. The Washington Capitals beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 Friday night at the Verizon Center. What comes after “depleted”? Because we’re running out of words to describe what’s left of the Lightning roster in the wake of an absurd and ongoing rash of injuries. Already without Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat, Vladislav Namestnikov, Ryan Callahan, Ben Bishop and Cedric Paquette, games remain to be...
