Penguins' team meeting puts neutralizing Victor Hedman first

Tampa's 1D continues to dominate, making Hedman the focus of Penguins' strategy for game 2. According to Chris Johnston, the Pitsburgh Penguins held a team meeting on Sunday, May 15, with a focus on ways to contain Victor Hedman. Tampa's 1D has been an increasingly dominant force in the Bolts' 2016 playoff run. In the 2015 playoffs, Jon Cooper was often criticized for his light deployment of Hedman, who had relatively low ice time in comparison to most of the elite defensemen in the league. Matt Martin Describes why Victor Hedman is a Pain to Play Against

"He’s a guy who’s going to turn you trying to be physical into him being up the ice." Victor Hedman has grown into a beast of an NHL player over the last few seasons, and the Tampa Bay Lightning's five-game second round series win over the New York Islanders was just the latest reflection of that. He has become the classic, all-zone, minute-munching, two-way #1 defenseman every team dreams of having. In the series with the Islanders, not only was Hedman a major reason Islanders franchise star John Tavares was held in check, but he also provided critical offense (four goals, four...
