Wild unable to put cap on Flyers as their downward slide continues

Luke Kunin scored twice, but a pair of 2 goal periods lift the Flyers over the Wild. The Minnesota Wild put up 4 goals on home ice, carried a 2 goal lead into the 2rd period, but the Philadelphia Flyers came soaring back as the Wild were boo’ed off the ice with a 5-4 loss at the X tonight. The Wild seemed to carry much of the play Tuesday night but were stifled by Flyers goalie Anthony Stolarz despite being given every opportunity to really put this game away. Things went from bad to worse for the Wild as they would finish the game with just 10 forwards on the bench. Victor Rask and Matt...

MINNESOTA WILD AT BUFFALO SABRES 6:00PM CST - KeyBank Center - Buffalo, New York TV: Fox Sports North Radio: KFAN 100.3 and affiliates Streaming: Fox Sports App, NHL.tv After stumbling out of the extended break against the Dallas Stars, the Minnesota Wild patched together an admirable showing against the Chicago Blackhawks over the weekend, earning a point in an overtime loss. Victor Rask scored just his second goal of the season and first in a Wild sweater to send the game to overtime with about 3 minutes remaining in regulation. Not bad timing against a Hawks team that has of...

Wild rally for point, but fall to Blackhawks in overtime

Wild rally for point, but fall to Blackhawks in overtime

Victor Rask tied the game for Minnesota in the closing minutes, but penalties would ultimately doom the Wild against Chicago. Yes! No! No! Yes! No! Yes! No! Not Kane… Phew! Ok, good. NOT TOEWS! NO! YEEESSS! No! No! NOOOOOOOOO! …And that pretty much sums up Minnesota’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. With both teams on the second of back-to-backs with travel, it was a contest of enormous momentum swings in both directions. The first period belonged mostly to Minnesota, the second to Chicago, and the third was split between the two sides. Ryan Suter was in...

Mid-season Grades: The new look third line is a story of three very different players

Mid-season Grades: The new look third line is a story of three very different players

The grouping of Zach Parise, Victor Rask, and Pontus Aberg has been together just three games, but they have already started to produce in that short time Today, Hockey Wilderness continues it’s line by line mid-season review of the Minnesota Wild. Next up is the team’s third line, which has been anything but consistent this season. In the Wild’s most recent game, the third line pairing consisted of Zach Parise with newcomers Victor Rask and Pontus Aberg. This line has been together for only three games, but they wasted no time starting to produce. In those three games, this group has...

Hurricanes Extend Teravainen. Is He Worth It?

On the heels of bringing in Nino Niederreiter from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Victor Rask, the Carolina Hurricanes signed forward Teuvo Teravainen to a contract extension last Monday. It is the second move that the ‘Canes have made while the hockey universe sits eagerly by waiting for word on what will be the future of […] The post Hurricanes Extend Teravainen. Painful Departures

Painful Departures

Nino is gone and there is a hole in my heart, next to all other holes. In case you haven’t heard, Nino Niederreiter was recently traded by the Minnesota Wild and some have described the move as wrong and others have said that they hated it. No matter what Victor Rask does during his time with the Wild, whether the trade ends up to be a good one or bad a one, many Wild fans will just resent losing one of their favorite players who was generally described as a good guy and a good teammate. Fortunately for us, we know what it feels like to have something you love taken away from you. Here is...

Victor Rask retrospective: What went wrong?

Victor Rask retrospective: What went wrong?

The Canes pulled off a brilliant move last week, trading Victor Rask and his contract for Nino Niederreiter. But how did things get to the point of the team being so ready to move on from Rask? By now, we’ve all heard the takes on the Victor Rask-Nino Niederreiter trade. Hurricanes GM Don Waddell pulled off a brilliant move by getting a goal-scoring winger for a contract the team would have given away for free. But how did we get to that point, of being so ready to move on from Rask? Things didn’t start out that way for him in Carolina. Not even close. Let’s take a look at how things...

Fenton is Hoping Rask will be the next Niederreiter, and he’s wrong.

Fenton is Hoping Rask will be the next Niederreiter, and he’s wrong.

There are several parallels between Nino Niederreiter before his trade to the Wild and Victor Rask before his trade to the Wild. Both came from situations in which they had struggled; Nino had 3 points in 64 games with the Islanders. Rask has averaged around 37 points per season (playing 6 more minutes per game than Nino did). Both were traded for a fan favorite player- Nino for Cal Clutterbuck and Rask for, obviously, Niederreiter. Both players were touted as high-upside and in need of a scene change. There are a few differences. Niederreiter came in as a fifth overall pick while Rask was...
