Fresh Links: Interim, schminterim! Patrice Bergeron nagged by injury

It was only a matter of time The Bruins’ first order of business has been settled, the new head coach is in place. Congratulations, Bruce Cassidy- you’ve been promoted to head coach. Boston Globe Sick call! Patrice Bergeron was fighting a nagging injury all season and Brandon Carlo was concussed by Alexander Ovechkin . MassLive Among Bruins lamenting missed playoff games was David Krejci, who accepted Chris Wideman’s apology for the un-penalized knee-on-knee hit. Was that why Guy Boucher benched Wideman in game 6? Providence Journal Zdeno Chara was a rock in the hard place that...

Fresh Links: That’s All, Folks

Fresh Links: That’s All, Folks

We’ll be ready again in September The Bruins are no longer in the race for the Stanley Cup. A team surrounded by questions and plagued by injuries squeaked into the playoffs where luck could only take them so far. Heck, we weren’t even sure they’d make the postseason, remember? There is no shame in the result. Boston Globe Zdeno Chara logged big minutes, Kevan Miller and Charlie McAvoy stepped up, but without 3/4 of the top defensive pairings, and with the insult of David Krejci’s injury, and mounting penalties to kill... well, it wasn’t meant to be. WEEI Take five... reasons...

Fresh Links: Colin Miller Injured, Charlie McAvoy Solid In His Debut

With all the injured players, how did the Bruins pull off a win? A rowdy crowd at the Canadian Tire Centre left disappointed, as the Bruins dropped the Senators 2-1 last night. NEXT! An apparent knee injury to Colin Miller opens yet another slot for yet another defenseman. Remember Joe Morrow? Might Tommy Cross receive a call? Boston Globe Your bullet points from the game include sticktaps for Tuukka Rask and Zdeno Chara. (With video) NESN With no Bruins shots on goal logged in the second period, goals by Frank Vatrano and Brad Marchand were most welcome in the third. The Senators were...

Bruins pair Charlie McAvoy with ‘big brother’ Zdeno Chara ahead of Game 1

It’s hard to have a bigger brother than the 6-foot-9 Zdeno Chara. A giant on the ice in skates and in the B’s locker room with his lead-by-example actions, the 40-year-old Chara has had his share of siblings over his 11-year run in Boston. He’s helped accelerate the development of prospects into legitimate top-four talents […]

Underappreciated: Zdeno Chara

Underappreciated: Zdeno Chara

“Chara is too slow, he’s washed up, the Bruins should trade him” We have all heard it on sports radio, read it in numerous articles and maybe even thought it ourselves this year… The thing is, Zdeno Chara is remarkably having one of his finest seasons in years, at the age of 40. Whether you use the eye test or varying statistics, there is no way around the fact that Chara has had a noticeable resurgence this year. While he may not be the same two way threat he was in his 08-09 Norris Trophy season, he has undeniably been a #1 Defenseman and still ranks among the league’s elite....
