Big Bad Blog | WEEI One of the by-products of having three regular defensemen out of the lineup and injured is putting a heavy burden on others. No where has the burden fallen more heavily than on the shoulders of Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. Claude Julien admitted as much on Friday, a much-needed day of rest for Chara, who logged [...]

Toronto Star He wouldn’t concede that he’d been out-maneuvered by Leafs coach Randy Carlyle’s savvy tactic of putting Kessel on the ice moments after Boston’s best player, Zdeno Chara, left the playing surface.

Pension Plan Puppets When you think of the Bruins' toughest players, you probably come up with guys like Shawn Thornton and Milan Lucic and Zdeno Chara. One name that doesn't necessarily spring to mind straight away is that of Adam McQuaid, who was second on the team in fights last season if you can believe that. But there's a pretty good reason for that: Adam McQuaid is one of the biggest no-neck punks in the league. Most people probably don't notice it because of all the other dirty stuff the Bruins do. And also because most of his dirtiest moves have come against the Ottawa Senators — a team no one care...

Stanley Cup of Chowder It'll be Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg leading the way for the Bruins if a lengthy playoff run is to be a reality. In the Game 1 win over Toronto, Chara played 23:38 and Seidenberg saw 21:32. Those numbers will only grow. Even last night, they're probably higher if it's not 4-1 after the second period. Despite the excellence this pair will display -- save the bumbling on the first penalty kill of the playoffs -- the four remaining Bruins defensemen need to play consistent, smart hockey. The identity of those four seemed certain for most of the season. Andrew Ference, Johnny Boychuk...

Montreal Canadiens April 7, 2013Boston Bruins Blog | ESPN Boston BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins pulled off a deal just before Wednesday's NHL trade deadline, acquiring veteran defenseman Wade Redden from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2013. The pick will become a sixth-rounder if Redden plays one or more games in the Stanley Cup playoffs this season. Redden joins future Hall of Fame winger Jaromir Jagr as the team's major additions for the stretch run. Redden, 35, will be reunited with former Ottawa Senators teammate and Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.

Habs Eyes On The Prize The St. Louis Blues have traded the recently bought out by the Rangers, then signed, Wade Redden to the Boston Bruins, where he will be reunited with longtime Senators teammate Zdeno Chara. Redden was actually having a heck of a season in a sheltered role in St. Louis going by his underlying numbers, making him worth far more than a 7th round pick in my opinion. Redden is no longer a top 4 defenseman, but he's likely significantly better than Boston's current options on the third pairing, which unfortunately makes them a better team. Redden is an unrestricted free agent at season's en...

March 4, 2013Boston Herald The Bruins and Canadiens delivered another entertaining installment in their decades-old rivalry. But for B’s fans, it provided an ultimately unsatisfying result. With captain Zdeno Chara serving 17 minutes for avenging an Alexei Emelin hit on Tyler Seguin, the Canadiens scored twice in the third period to grab a 4-3 victory at the Garden and move back into first place in the Eastern Conference.Neither the players nor the coaches had an issue with what Chara did.
