Colorado Avalanche: Anatomy of Matt Duchene’s Goal

Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene scored a textbook goal against the Dallas Stars. Unfortunately, it was the only one the Avs got. The Colorado Avalanche fell to the Dallas Stars last night. They scored only one goal, but it was a beauty. And who scores the most beautiful goals on the team? The Avalanche Fall in Dallas as Their 3 Win Streak Comes to an End

The Avalanche Fall in Dallas as Their 3 Win Streak Comes to an End

There is not a whole lot to be optimistic about in regards to tonight’s loss. The Colorado Avalanche ran into trouble in the Big-D as they fall from (to) the Stars 3-1. Semyon Varlamov started this game on the second leg of a back-to-back after Jonathan Bernier posted a win against the Anaheim Ducks. Not a whole lot to be happy about after tonight’s loss, though. Matt Duchene scored again (good) and the PK continues to shine (also good). The Avs of Seasons Past The first period was relatively uneventful on both sides of the ice, except for one penalty each on Esa Lindell and Nikita...

Tyler Seguin Notches Gordie Howe Hat Trick In Stars Win Over Avalanche

Tyler Seguin Notches Gordie Howe Hat Trick In Stars Win Over Avalanche

Yes, you read that name correctly. 1.1 seconds. That’s all it takes to turn a game around. The Dallas Stars pressured the Colorado Avalanche through two periods, peppering goaltender Semyon Varlamov with 14 goals in each frame. They were able to break through once thanks to captain Jamie Benn. He sniped one past the opposite shoulder of Varlamov on a great hesitation and shot. It is the kind of goal that Stars fans are used to seeing the captain score, and a welcome sight after the slow(er) start he’s had to this season so far. It looked as though that goal was going to be the only one...

Avalanche, Stars off to unexpected starts this season

A team sitting at 1-3-0 will take on a 4-1-0 team Saturday at the American Airlines Center, which is pretty much how many hockey pundits had it before the season started.

Know Thine Enemy: Mile High Hockey on Duchene Trade, Nemeth, And More

As the Colorado Avalanche come to town, we asked Mile High Hockey to weigh in on three things we’re burning to know about them this season. As the Dallas Stars get ready to take on the Colorado Avalanche tonight, we caught up with managing editor of Mile High Hockey to ask him three burning questions about the Avs so far this season. 1) Let's get this one out of the way right off the bat. What's the latest on the Matt Duchene "will they or won't they trade him?" front and how do you see that ultimately being resolved? It's the soap opera that just won't end. Even when the actual trade...

Game Day: Colorado Avalanche look to make it four wins in a row

Game Day: Colorado Avalanche look to make it four wins in a row

The Avalanche travel to Dallas with the hopes of continuing their hot start. After going through a roller coaster of emotions last night, the Colorado Avalanche are right back at it today. The team is in Dallas to take on the Stars in their first divisional matchup of the season. The Avs come in with a 4-1 record having won three straight games - a streak that is longer than any they had all of last season. The Stars, on the other hand, come into the game with a 1-3 record and will be looking to take advantage of a fatigued Avalanche team. The Stars have struggled to score through the...

Preview: The Colorado Avalanche Are Good So Far, And The Dallas Stars Are Not Winning (Yet)

It’s another hot goaltender coming to town. Yay. It isn’t the start Dallas Stars fans expected this season. A 1-3 start on a stretch of the schedule that was supposed to be favorable after all of the changes to the roster in the offseason wasn’t what most would have put money on. The expectations were very high (maybe too high?) for a team adjusting to new coaches, a new system, and finding chemistry among new players. So the stumble isn’t exactly unsurprising if you take a step back and really think about it. There are good underlying numbers that show the Stars will find success...

Tyson Jost out on Friday vs Ducks

Tyson Jost out on Friday vs Ducks

The 2016 1st rounder for the Avs looks unlikely to play in the next few games. Tyson Jost won’t be available to play in tonight’s matchup vs the Anaheim Ducks. Reports out of Denver also have him missing tomorrow nights game when the Avalanche travel to Dallas to take on the Stars. Jost came back to the ice after going awkwardly into the boards from a nasty cross-check from Boston’s Adam McQuaid on Wednesday night. This “hit” should have been grounds for suspension or at least a hearing from the NHL Department of Safety which we dove into a few days ago. You can read the...
