Islanders vs Ducks: MORNING THOUGHTS

Gibson saves the day with 39 saves. The Ducks took care of business Wednesday night in Anaheim. Although Ondrej Kase stepped out of the lineup with an upper body injury, Patrick Eaves returned to the top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. After being mostly absent from the stat column, Eaves was able to score a goal in the third period. It turned out to be the game winning goal. Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle had this to say about the veteran winger: RC on @Patrick_Eaves GWG: “You feel good for the player and you feel good for the team.” #LetsGoDucks— Anaheim Ducks...

Islanders News: Duck and cover; Tavares and Belmont; Chelsea Blues

Also, might Houston soon have a new team? Late last night, the California road trip got off to a bang in Anaheim, but not the good kind. We’ll see what Saturday at the Shark Tank holds, besides Sharks. The Yankees also advanced last night. Congrats to those who rejoice. To come back from down 0-2 against the league’s best team is impressive. Local Nuggets The Islanders really did play extremely well through most of last night. John Gibson gave them very little, only allowing a Brock Nelson tip and a shot from Nelson flying down the wing. The Ducks held on 3-2. Recaps: [LHH | Newsday |...

Anaheim ends a four-game losing skid to the New York Islanders First Period: Wu wu wu, Kenny Wu. Andrew Cogliano scored the opening goal only :37 seconds into the game. Wisely, Josh Manson put a low shot from the right faceoff dot into Halak’s far pad. That has a juicy rebound written all over it. A streaking Cogliano picked up the puck in the low slot and gave Anaheim their first opening goal of the season. Then, somehow, Randy Carlyle and company forgot how the whole “hockey” thing works. After getting their first two shots in thirty seconds, the Ducks did not get another until the...

John Gibson stops 39 of 41 Shots and Islanders Power Play goes 0-5 as Ducks win 3-2

First Period The New York Islanders took to the ice against the Anaheim Ducks in an east versus west battle that saw both teams trying to get back to statistical .500. The Islanders started off horribly with the Ducks immediately gaining the zone off of a Ryan Getzlaf dump in. Josh Manson picked up the lose puck on a rather aggressive pinch then fired the puck to Andrew Cogliano who tipped it past Jaroslave Halak only 37 seconds into the game. Halak looked notably upset as if he should have had it, but both Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk were caught napping a bit. The Islanders...
