Nashville Predators 3, Boston Bruins 4: New Year, New Team

A heartbreaking loss that shouldn’t have been. In case you somehow didn’t already know, the puck dropped for the first time in the 2017-2018 Nashville Predators season tonight. The Preds lost to the Boston Bruins, and the Adidas jerseys were not the only thing new about this season. The NHL introduced its new rules, and this game saw the slashing rule enforced early and often. The Bruins got a first period 5-on-3 power play that was partially due to the new rule, as Matt Irwin used his stick in a manner that would’ve been perfectly fine last season. The other penalty call there was a...

Second period observations: Bruins 3, Predators 1

Well that was fun. A few more quick thoughts before the third period begins: Charlie McAvoy’s game tonight is probably going to be a microcosm of this entire season: flashes of awesome mixed in with mistakes. McAvoy’s goal was great and his play on the PP has been great too. He drew a penalty with his skating. However, he’s also taken two penalties and been a step slow on a few plays. This comes with the learning curve, and the Bruins are going to have to take the good with the bad. David Krejci is quietly having a great night with three points. Krejci is at his best when surrounded...

First period observations: Bruins 1, Predators 1

A good start marred by a bad giveaway at the end. Just some quick thoughts as we wait for the second period: David Pastrnak is electric tonight. He nearly spun Roman Josi out of the building on one shift, drew a boarding penalty on another and scorched a one-timer for the Bruins’ first goal of the season. Lots of people are hoping for Pastrnak to make the leap to the “next level” this season; if this first period is any indication, he’s itching to get there too. Speaking of Pastrnak, not a good play at the end of the period. The puck was in his skates, but he’d have been better...

Both David Backes and Patrice Bergeron have been ruled out for opening night. The Predators come prowling into TD Garden tonight itching for a fight. Don’t miss the action on both NESN (with audio on 100.7 @WZLX) and also on FoxSportsGo, beginning at 7:00PM. No Patrice Bergeron or David Backes tonight? What kind of fun is that- and should we worry? WEEI Final word is they are BOTH out for tonight. @HLBruins There are four issues the Bruins need to address successfully to ensure an appearance in the postseason. The fourth is one that has challenged this team for several seasons, now....

Nashville Predators @ Boston Bruins Preview: Let It Happen

The return of hockey, the return of the Western Conference Champions. After the shortest summer in Nashville Predators history, the handsomest hockey team in the world is finally ready to begin writing the next chapter in their history. Though we would all love to re-read the last chapter a few more times, the past is behind us. Yes, we will see a banner raised in Bridgestone next Tuesday, but it does not do to dwell on the past. We must forge on! To the future! The new season brings a host of questions, plot-lines, and potential hangups for the Predators. We’ve tackled a lot of these...

Are you ready for Bruins hockey tomorrow night? The roster has been finalized in advance of opening night tomorrow. The Bruins host the Predators at 7:00PM on NESN. Malcolm Subban is now a Las Vegas Golden Knight - what did the Bruins get in return? Bupkis. Zero. Zip. Nada. WEEI No team would trade an asset for him, so as much as the Bruins valued him, sadly, his market value was pretty low. Days Of Y’Orr Perhaps they were carrying too many goalies, but this turn of events is still a loss for the Bruins. Bonus- Patrice Bergeron is ailing, and Rob O’Gara is headed to Providence....

The Bruins’ first line is every bit as good as its numbers indicate Stay tuned, P.K. Subban and the Predators are headed our way on Thursday. Another season, another rookie defenseman makes his mark. Charlie McAvoy is poised to be the next Brandon Carlo. His teammates see a trend. Bonus- the Bruins bid Teddy Purcell goodbye and we hold our breath as Peter Cehlarik and Malcolm Subban hit waivers.
