Ducks vs Predators Game 6 BEST/WORST: End of the Line

Ducks vs Predators Game 6 BEST/WORST: End of the Line

Is it October yet? Best: Exceeding Expectations Well, the season is over. This ending hurts, but there are still plenty of reasons to be happy. The Ducks came out of nowhere to beat two more Alberta teams to make it to another Western Conference Final. Not many people saw Anaheim winning the Pacific Division yet alone making the playoffs. Even a Carlyle coached team was able to show signs of success throughout the year. Maybe the cup window is not closed after all. Worst: Lack of Depth It was a miracle that Anaheim played as well as they did in Game 6 given their roster. The team was so...

Ducks notes: Special teams have struggled

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In this postseason, the Ducks’ two areas of special teams haven’t been very special. Winning that battle would help their cause to stay alive in the Western Conference finals. Continuing a problematic theme, the Ducks lost it in Game 5 as they didn’t score on any of their four power plays while […]

Shorthanded Ducks ready for do-or-die Game 6

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – So the Ducks are back here, sitting in a situation that is more dire than their last visit with developments that have them in disarray while the beloved host team has a fan base ready to throw a big downtown party Monday night. Maybe that’s just how they like it. As always, […]

Whicker: Filip Forsberg continues to baffle Ducks in Predators’ Game 5 win

ANAHEIM — Ryan Johansen was in his bed at Vanderbilt Hospital, his bulldog Doug by his side. Mike Fisher, perhaps Nashville’s second-best center and the gray eminence of the Predators, didn’t even make the trip. Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals was nigh, and much of the hockey world thought the Predators had left […]

Game 4 line rushes: Ducks vs. Predators

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Ducks seek to forge another tie in the best-of-7 Western Conference finals with Nashville when they take on the Predators in Game 4 Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena. To do so, they’ll need to possess the puck much more than they did in a 2-1 Game 3 loss and get another […]

Ducks dig themselves another hole as Predators rally for 2-1 win in Game 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The first time the Nashville Predators hosted a game in the Western Conference finals became a memorable one. And the Ducks are again dealing with an uphill battle in a series. Roman Josi scored a power-play goal with 2:43 left in regulation to lift the Predators to a 2-1 win at a raucous […]

Whicker: Ducks’ silver linings don’t dispel the cloud

Whicker: Ducks’ silver linings don’t dispel the cloud

ANAHEIM — A peace treaty gets signed and more shots ring out. Another Stanley Cup playoff train left the station at 6 p.m. Friday. The Ducks didn’t catch up to it until about 7:45. That does not make the eventual 3-2 overtime loss to Nashville palatable or even acceptable, in Game 1 of the Western […]

Miller: Ducks’ loss plays into the hands of their many unbelievers

ANAHEIM — Their first shot on goal Friday ended up in goal, the Ducks jumping ahead barely five minutes into the Western Conference finals. Despite that lightning start, the Ducks, much like the crowd here — many fans were still inching along the freeway as the first puck dropped at 6:10 p.m. — were a little […]

Whicker: A net gain for Oilers in Game 2 win over Ducks

ANAHEIM — Maybe it seems too simplistic to turn it into Goalie Wars, to put every outcome of every series on the pads of the guys in the net. But maybe it’s too complicated to turn it into anything else. The Ducks had Edmonton’s Cam Talbot surrounded in the third period and much of the […]

Whicker: Cam Talbot says no to Ducks as Oilers take 2-0 lead

ANAHEIM — Cam Talbot, the undrafted pride of the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, stood in a crease that became his own private Alamo Friday night. Except he survived. The Edmonton goaltender was as brilliant as he was beleaguered. He held off the onrushing Ducks, 2-1, and gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals. […]

Game 2 line rushes: Ducks vs. Oilers

ANAHEIM – Faced with responding to their first loss since April 3, the Ducks now deal with a must-win situation for Game 2 as they look to even the best-of-7 Western Conference semifinals against the Edmonton Oilers at Honda Center on Friday night. The Ducks had won eight straight games dating to an overtime loss […]

Oilers stun Ducks with third-period flurry to take series opener, 5-3

Oilers stun Ducks with third-period flurry to take series opener, 5-3

ANAHEIM – Weeks of winning that the Ducks carried into the postseason started to trigger feelings that a long Stanley Cup playoff run might be in their future. Two goals that largely silenced a sellout Honda Center crowd showed that they’ve got a lot of work ahead of them. If the Edmonton Oilers didn’t already […]
