Preseason: Game 3, Year 2: Vegas defeats Los Angeles 7-2, top line shines again

Preseason: Game 3, Year 2: Vegas defeats Los Angeles 7-2, top line shines again

We’re going to attempt to write about a game we couldn’t watch. The Vegas Golden Knights supposedly played a preseason hockey contest at Staples Center on Thursday night. They also scored seven goals against the Los Angeles Kings, and reportedly won 7-2 by those in attendance who saw it. Conventional wisdom would have you believe that a game between the I-15 rivals would be picked up by somebody. Literally anybody. No? Not a single soul? Fortunately, radio is a thing and it is glorious. Fox Sports 98.9 FM/1340 AM was on scene to call such a wonderful rousing 60 minutes of the Golden...

2017-18 Player Review: Deryk Engelland was a leader on and off the ice for the Golden Knights

The veteran defenseman turned out the best statistical season of his career in Year 1 with Vegas. In the 2017-18 Player Review series, we will evaluate the 2017-18 performances of each member of the Golden Knights. We have assigned each player a grade, which is a Knights On Ice composite grade made up of our individual ratings. Players were evaluated based on overall performance in both the regular season and playoffs, especially with regard to pre-season expectations and how that player performed in his particular role. Note: Only skaters who played in at least 20 games and goalies who...

[ESPN] - The Golden Knights released a couple more youngsters from training camp Wednesday. [Knights on Ice] - We all know Max Pacioretty can score goals, but what is it that makes him so special away from the puck? [HockeyBuzz] In other...

Dylan Ferguson, Lucus Elvenes released from Golden Knights training camp

A couple more youngsters are being given extra time to develop. The Vegas Golden Knights announced Wednesday that they released two players from training camp. Goaltender Dylan Ferguson was sent down to the WHL’s Kaloomps Blazers, and forward Lucas Elvenes will rejoin Rögle BK in the Swedish Hockey League. Ferguson, 19, was selected 194th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2017 Entry Draft, then quickly traded to the Golden Knights. He was called up for one NHL game in the 2017–18 season, filling in for Maxime Lagace at the height of VGK’s goaltender injury woes. He made 25 saves and...

Stanley Cup, here we come! [Knights on Ice] - Cody Glass missed Golden Knights practice with a lower-body injury on Tuesday. Not exactly the most ideal time for the injury bug to strike. [Las Vegas Review-Journal] - We still don’t know what role Erik Haula will be playing this season, but Gerard Gallant made it clear that he’ll be seeing plenty of ice time. Read up more on that and some other...

Preseason: Game 2, Year 2: Another strong Vegas performance in 5-1 win over Avs

Erik Brannstrom makes another case for a roster spot. Sign of things to come from the second line? First wave of cuts, and more for Vegas. Two games, two wins for the Vegas Golden Knights in their 2018-19 preseason campaign. The Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 at Pepsi Center on Tuesday. Former Montreal Canadien goalie Zac Fucale made 24 saves and got the win. Never has a battle been more intense than the sixth goaltender spot on the Vegas depth chart between Fucale and Dylan Ferguson. Five different Golden Knights scored, highlighted by Erik Brannstrom scoring for the...

Shea Theodore, Golden Knights still far apart in contract discussions, per report

Shea Theodore, Golden Knights still far apart in contract discussions, per report

Not the best news regarding Vegas’ young defenseman. The last couple days have been very kind to restricted free agent defensemen. The Winnipeg Jets signed Josh Morrissey to a two-year, $6.3 million contract on Sunday and Darnell Nurse was inked to a similar deal on Monday by the Edmonton Oilers. Certainly this must be a good sign in regard to Shea Theodore’s contract discussions with the Golden Knights, right? Not exactly. According to a report from Sportsnet’s John Shannon, Theodore and the Golden Knights are not close to an agreement on a new deal. The 23-year-old blueliner has...

What the Golden Knights’ bottom six should look like this season

What the Golden Knights’ bottom six should look like this season

It seems like Vegas has figured out its top two forward lines. But what should the third and fourth lines look like? William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith make up the top line of the Vegas Golden Knights. That is a fact unlikely to change, even with the recent additions of Max Pacioretty and Paul Stastny. Those two likely will head to the second line to play with Alex Tuch. This raises a question, however, especially with the departure of Tomas Tatar. Who plays on the third line? This has been in question since Stastny signed with the team July 1. Erik Haula seems like...

Knights Nuggets: The Golden Knights are back!

Start off your morning by reading up on some news and notes. Rise and shine! Let’s check in on some news and notes: - The Golden Knights returned to action last night as they defeated the Arizona Coyotes 7-2 in the preseason opener. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s good to have hockey back. [Knights on Ice] - Brayden McNabb didn’t put up eye-popping statistics last season, but he cemented himself as a key cog on the Vegas blue line. [Knights on Ice] - It’s a bummer that Erik Karlsson isn’t a member of the Golden Knights right now, but Vegas’ failure to acquire the two-time Norris...

Preseason, Game 1, Year 2: Golden Knights defeat Coyotes 7-2

Tomas Nosek continues to make a case for more ice time. Max Pacioretty scored his first Golden Knights goal. Dylan Ferguson is getting better, and his dad didn’t even get to see him play live. The Vegas Golden Knights played their first preseason contest of the 2018-19 season. It was a doozy. The reigning Western Conference champions defeated whatever was left of the Arizona Coyotes 7-2 at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday. It was certainly a treat for the 17,567 that showed up to watch that thrashing. Wait. What? Yeah, T-Mobile Arena was sold out on Sunday. For a preseason game. Exhibition, if...

Preseason, Game 1, Year 2: Golden Knights handle Coyotes with ease, 7-2

Some guys probably didn’t need to play tonight, but sure, fireworks are fun. The Vegas Golden Knights played their first preseason contest of the 2018-19 season. It was a doozy. The reigning Western Conference champions defeated whatever was left of the Arizona Coyotes, 7-2 at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday. This was a game that didn’t really need star power, but alas, two-thirds of the top line needed it. Jonathan Marchessault scored two goals, and William Karlsson added one more. Playing the role of Reilly Smith tonight was Tomas Nosek. The usual fourth line winger had xxxx assists and...
