Five weeks after rejecting the Russian's landmark 17-year, $102
million contract with the Devils, the league approved a revised 15-year,
$100 million deal on Friday after reaching an agreement with the NHL
Players Association on an amendment covering long-term contracts.
Jay Grossman, Kovalchuk's agent, confirmed the agreement in an e-mail to The Associated Press. It was first reported by TSN.

As first reported by the Kelowna (British Columbia) Daily Courier in Friday's editions, Hitchcock played a key role in apprehending a 14-year-old shoplifting suspect earlier this week in Kelowna by holding the suspect until law enforcement officials could arrive.
When contacted yesterday by The Dispatch, Hitchcock would not comment publicly on the incident, except to confirm it.
