However, the preseason hasn’t been without injury, as B.J. SEC Week 6 Predictions: Trick or Treat Edition

SEC Week 6 Predictions: Trick or Treat Edition

Photo by Shi Bufa/VCG via Happy Halloween! But with 2020 having the look of a B-rate horror film that seems to have no end, hasn’t it been Halloween long enough? Discuss. It was a short week in SEC play with only four games on tap, but nevertheless, there still was plenty to discuss. In a nutshell, let’s review the week that was in SEC play: Auburn survives at Ole Miss on another questionable call/ no-call that leads to a game-winning touchdown in Oxford. LSU got back to being LSU, drilling South Carolina in Baton Rouge. Although Alabama was their usual dominant self, the Tide...

Clean up your Mess when you Miss

UK Athletics “The first thing you need for a rebounding record is a whole lot of missed shots.” February 8, 1964 is when it happened. The crowd was jammed into Memorial Coliseum. When the number was totaled up it would be 12,600 people waiting to watch the Mississippi Rebels face Adolph Rupp’s Kentucky Wildcats. Rupp had just won his 700th career victory earlier on the week against Georgia on the road in Athens. Now the Cats were back home and Rupp was aiming for number 701. The game had some extra hype because it featured the two best scorers in the SEC going head to head....

UK notifies season ticket holders that basketball fan capacity will be reduced

Aaron Gershon - Sea of Blue Officially official. Kroger Field won’t be the only Kentucky Wildcats athletics facility that will have limited fan attendance amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Monday, Kentucky State Senator Damon Thayer tweeted that he received a letter from UK President Eli Capilouto that states there will only be 15% capacity at Kentucky Men’s Basketball games at Rupp Arena this season. Apparently @KentuckyMBB is only allowing 15% capacity @Rupp_Arena this season according to letter from @UKYpres Pretty sad & unnecessary. It can work with more fans but everyone is...

Jason Marcum - Sea of Blue Wilson also deleted his Twitter account this week. Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson has yet to practice this week as the team prepares for a clash with No. 5 Georgia. Wilson, who’s status as the Wildcats’ starter is in question following Saturday’s offensive debacle in Columbia, has been sidelined Monday and Tuesday due to what the team initially called a minor injury. Terry Wilson has not practiced the last two days, UK OC Eddie Gran says. They'll assess that situation again tomorrow. Gatewood and Allen getting the main reps.— Jeff Drummond...

Rams sign former UK kicker Austin MacGinnis to practice squad

Jason Marcum - Sea of Blue MacGinnis is back in the NFL. The Los Angeles Rams are signing former Kentucky Wildcats kicker Austin MacGinnis to the practice squad, according to NFL reporter Mike Garafolo. MacGinnis actually signed with the Rams this past offseason to compete for the kicker job, which he ultimately lost to Sam Sloman before being waived during final cuts. However, Sloman has struggled this season and was just cut by the Rams, who also signed veteran kicker Kai Forbath last week. Forbath will likely be the primary kicker with MacGinnis waiting in the wings on the practice...

Bowl projection roundup for Wildcats following setback vs. Tigers

Bowl projection roundup for Wildcats following setback vs. Tigers

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports There are still some fun bowl projections for UK despite a brutal loss to Missouri. After defeating the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville for the first time since 1984 last week, the Kentucky Wildcats picked up big-time bowl projections. This week those projections looks a bit different as the Cats were embarrassed by the Missouri Tigers 20-10 on the road Saturday breaking UK’s five-game winning streak over Mizzou as they dropped to 2-3 on the season. With a schedule that features three teams’ ranked among the top 10 of the latest AP Poll and a South...

Tuesday Quickies: Mizzou in the Rear-View Edition

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports The Kentucky loss to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday was a big disappointment, especially after a huge rivalry win at Tennessee. What went wrong? Good morning, ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation, and welcome to the Tuesday Morning Quickies. As per usual on Tuesdays after a game, I’ll offer a few brief observations on Kentucky’s loss to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday: This was one of those “so Kentucky” losses — every year we have a couple of head-scratching losses, usually attributable to a poor mental attitude going into the game....

Kentucky reaches out to Omaha Biliew

Courtside Films This kid looks like a star on the rise. Over the last week, Kentucky has received commitments from recruits in the class of 2021 (Bryce Hopkins) and 2022 (Skyy Clark). But trying to stay ahead of the curve, John Calipari and his staff are also hot on the trail of the best players in the 2023 class. One of those stars is Omaha Biliew, and Kentucky has recently reached out to begin his recruitment. According to Travis Graf of Cats Illustrated, Kentucky has officially made contact with Biliew, one of the top big men in the 2023 class. John Calipari only has one offer out...

Kentucky in top 5 of new ESPN preseason ranking

Photo by Michael Hickey/ The immediate waiver of Kentucky’s potential starting center Olivier Sarr gave them a significant boost in the rankings. Although all five of Kentucky’s starters from a year ago declared for the NBA Draft, they’ll be primed to have another big year under John Calipari. They’ll do it on the back of the NCAA’s best incoming recruiting class. They secured both Terrence Clarke and BJ Boston, two of the top-ten recruits in the nation. They’ll both be projected starts this season. It’s not just those two that’ll be difference makers for this team but...

UK’s loss to Missouri could have been much worse

UK’s loss to Missouri could have been much worse

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports It could have, and maybe it should have. So, Kentucky lost by 10 points (20-10) to Missouri. Just be glad it was not a 30-point loss. It could have, and maybe it should have. How many times has UK given up 422 yards and gained only 145, with the opposing team possessing the ball nearly 80 per cent of the time and running 56 more offensive plays than UK. Yet, only losing by 10 points. Inquiring minds need to know. So, I did some research on UK football. Went waaaay back. I uncovered many forgettable (perhaps embarrassing would be more appropriate)...
