NCAA Football Week 8 Game Times and TV Schedule

NCAA Football Week 8 Game Times and TV Schedule

Week 8 of the college football season has a full slate of games, capped off by some big time matchups in primetime. We dive into the matchups, the TV times and how to watch. OK, bear with me here. I’m going to try something a little different this week. I assume most of you are here for the table and listing of games, not the paragraphs of commentary (and certainly not the beer takes). So rather than make you pour through the commentary for the games, times and TV listings, I’m going with a (hopefully) more digestible format. If you like it, let me know in the comments. If you...

On the back of a strong defensive performances to close the season, Christian Williams entered as the presumptive starter. Olympic Sports wrap up: Gold team wins World Series, soccer & volleyball split, field hockey struggles

Iowa baseball wins the World Series — sorta. Iowa baseball had its annual Black and Gold World Series last weekend, which was basically the last live action they’ll get until the spring. It’s mostly for fun. Here were the rosters: In case you're wondering... the rosters for the Black & Gold World Series... Black leads 1-0... #Hawkeyes pic.twitter.com/JZVBYegEeL— Iowa Baseball (@UIBaseball) October 12, 2017 The Black squad had five pitchers combine for a no-hitter and a 3-2 win, though they did issue 10 walks. Nick Allgeyer got the start for the Black team and lasted four...

Matchup to Watch: Iowa’s Defensive Line vs. Northwestern’s Offensive Line

Matchup to Watch: Iowa’s Defensive Line vs. Northwestern’s Offensive Line

Can the Hawkeyes’ big uglies get the requisite pressure against the Wildcats? Coming into this season, the Iowa staff built high expectations for Iowa’s defensive line. Phil Parker raved about their ability to knock down passes. Matt Nelson had to move from end to tackle to make room for all the talent. Through six games, they’ve underperformed. The group has averaged ~1.5 sacks a game (9.5 total) and have only defended 5 passes, via sports-reference. Can they get the train back on the tracks? If there’s a game for Iowa to do it, it’s this one. Northwestern’s Offensive...

The Pants Party: Which of two underachieving teams will come out on top in Evanston this weekend?

The Pants Party: Which of two underachieving teams will come out on top in Evanston this weekend?

It’s Northwestern week, which means we talk about martinis, Everclear, and a little bit of football. This week Max and Jerry are joined by Off Tackle Empire’s MNWildcat to talk about this week’s opponent, the Northwestern Wildcats. Jerry thinks managing editor Ben Ross has a “goofy” voice. Despite playing jNW, everyone think this weekend’s game is a coin toss, and literally predict it as such. MNWildcat tells a story about running into former Northwestern basketball coach Bill Carmody in Boston, discuss the greatness of the Appletini (truly a Top 10 all time cocktail), and...

Hello Jerry Mailbag: Come With Me Now

Come with me now, to the land of the mailbag Before I get to my usual solicitation begging for your questions, comments and theories (of which I apparently “overshare” on...), I wanted to make sure that all of you saw this very important highlight video: 10 Days Until the Return #FightForIowa https://t.co/mry9hUhmvZ— Iowa Basketball (@IowaHoops) October 17, 2017 I’m not sure if we’ve ever given a shout out to Charlie Rose before on this site, but the clip that the media crew threw in (:25 second mark) of him counting three’s has made me laugh the seven times I've watched...

Henry Geil Pos: RB Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin Ht: 6’ Wt: 211 lbs Running back commit Henry Geil finished his regular season with a strong performance. He tallied 141 rushing yards and 2 TDs on 14 carries for an average of 10.1 YPC. He also added 50 receiving yards on a lone catch. KIRK SPEAKS: just NORTHWESTERN

KIRK SPEAKS: just NORTHWESTERN

Kirk Ferentz back! After some face time with the coordinators, the head ball coach returned to meet with the press. With Fran McCaffery yesterday, this felt diving into a cold pool after hanging out in the hot tub. Still - there was some interesting tidbits. Here’s the link. But first, let me take a depth chart: Wirfs is the RT. Hooker and Taylor are in “OR” mode. Ojemudia still listed ahead of Rugamba. And a new punter. pic.twitter.com/iVC3AyW06F— Marc Morehouse (@marcmorehouse) October 16, 2017 All the depth chart flotsam from last week is accounted for here: Tristan Wirfs...

Iowa Hawkeyes in the NFL: Week 6 Results

Iowa Hawkeyes in the NFL: Week 6 Results

C.J. BEATHARD IS A STARTING QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL!!! It is done. C.J. Beathard is a starting quarterback in the National Football League. We bring you this “Hawkeyes in the NFL” update every week, but never have I been more excited to write this piece than now. After months of following the Beathard saga in San Francisco and listening to some pundits suggest that C.J. could be this season’s Dak Prescott, the former Hawkeye quarterback was finally named the starting quarterback for the 49ers. Now, the 2017 49ers are nowhere near as good as Dak’s 2016 Cowboys were at this point,...

B1G Numbers: It’s J.T. Barrett’s World and We Just Live in It

B1G Numbers: It’s J.T. Barrett’s World and We Just Live in It

It think we have a new Heisman frontrunner. It’s was another fun week of college football, and it with Iowa on a bye week, it was pretty much stress free for the Hawkeye faithful. A lot went down, both nationally and in the conference. Here are some numbers I pulled as a result of this past weekend’s Big Ten games. 219 This was how many yards Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor ran for against Purdue. It was the third time he has eclipsed the 200-yard mark this season. He now has 986 yards on the season, good enough for sixth nationally and tops in the Big Ten. He also added a...

Fran McCaffery Iowa Basketball Media Day Recap

Fran McCaffery Iowa Basketball Media Day Recap

Lineups! Schedules! NCAA snitching! And more! The Iowa men’s basketball team hosted its annual Media Day yesterday, which means IOWA BASKETBALL IS BACK, BABY! And of course, as he does every media day, Fran got in front of the media to answer all of their questions. It seems like it was a pretty wide-ranging conversation! He also included (what looks like) a personally signed letter to each member of the media that was given to them before the presser: Fran McCaffery letter to media in attendance at today's @IowaHoops Media Day. #Hawkeyes pic.twitter.com/SKGgkLJYKL— Matt Weitzel...

IOWA-MINNESOTA SET FOR NIGHT GAME ON OCT. 28

BACON IS A DISH BEST SERVED AT NIGHT Iowa’s annual Floyd of Rosedale trophy game against Minnesota is slated to kickoff at 5:30 pm CT on FS1 on Oct. 28. 5:30 kick for Iowa-Minnesota. On FS1.— Marc Morehouse (@marcmorehouse) October 16, 2017 This is already going to be Iowa’s second night game of the year, leaving little room for any of its remaining home games — Ohio State and Purdue — to be played in the evening. Its game against Nebraska is already scheduled for 3pm, and I suppose the bout against Wisconsin at Camp Randall could be played at night, but that’s doubtful....

Hoops Crootin’ Boogie: Class of 2019 Heats Up

With the class of 2018 full, the focus has shifted to 2019 and beyond. We take a look at who the Hawkeyes are after and who could fill those openings. With the football team on a bye this past week and basketball season inching ever closer, now seems like the perfect time to check in on recruiting news for Fran McCaffery and the Iowa Basketball Hawkeyes. Oh yeah, and there was this kid who happened to be the highest rated recruit since the creation of the Rivals database to commit to Iowa last week. So yeah, probably a good time to get caught up. Here’s a quick look at how things look...
