Jordan Mailata is just laughing it off

Jordan Mailata is just laughing it off

The rawest of rookies can’t stop giggling in the face of the daunting challenges that await him “Oogo-booga-booga!” says the giant. He has a twinkle in his eye as he wiggles his fingers, looming over the onlookers. Shirtless and gleaming, his muscles ripple across his shoulders and upper arms—he’s somehow sinewy despite his size. He’d make a good storybook character, sure—but he’s enough of one in the flesh. Our giant—big and friendly—chuckles through his words as he finishes telling the story of the two offsides penalties he drew: “That’s what Coach Stout [Jeff...

13 observations from the final Eagles training camp practice of 2018

13 observations from the final Eagles training camp practice of 2018

Here’s what we learned on Tuesday. Today marked the 15th and FINAL day of 2018 Philadelphia Eagles training camp. The Eagles had a 10-10-10 day so practice was lighter than usual. Here’s what I observed. • Daily Carson Wentz update: Today marked the 12th practice in a row with Wentz not participating in 11-on-11. The Eagles really only do 11-on-11 during 10-10-10 days so Wentz didn’t do much besides some rehab work off to the side on a separate field. • Injury updates: In addition to the guys on the NFI/PUP lists, the following players missed practice: Nelson Agholor, Corey...

Carson Wentz hopes to return to 11-on-11 in Eagles practice next week

The head coach and QB1 and 2 all talked about their progress heading into Week 2 of the preseason. Tuesday was the last day of practice for the Eagles before their Super Bowl rematch against the Patriots in their Week 2 preseason game, and head coach Doug Pederson and QBs Nick Foles and Carson Wentz took the podium to talk preparations and give some injury updates. Here’s what they had to say: Carson Wentz The young QB was asked what he was able to take away from this year’s training camp, and while he was sidelined for a decent portion, Wentz did say he feels good physically. That...

Carson Wentz on returning in time for Eagles’ Week 1 game: “It’s gonna be close”

Carson Wentz on returning in time for Eagles’ Week 1 game: “It’s gonna be close”

Hear from the Eagles QB. Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback Carson Wentz appeared on the 94WIP Morning Show before Tuesday’s training camp practice. You may be surprised that he was asked about the possibility of him playing in Week 1! Who would have guessed? Here’s what Wentz had to say in an interview with Angelo Cataldi, via 94WIP.com: “I obviously would love to be out there (Week 1). That’s been my goal all offseason, ever since the injury. It’s gonna be close. It’s gonna be close. I am still eyeing that date, but at the end of the day it is not just my decision....

Julie Ertz would be a better drinking buddy than Zach, and more from E:60’s ‘Meet the Ertzes’

These two are so freaking cute, and both are such bad asses. When the preview dropped for last Sunday’s edition of E:60, “Meet the Ertzes”, I knew we were in for a cute love story about two World-class athletes. And they did not disappoint. Zach Ertz, the tight end for the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles, and his wife Julie, a Women’s World Cup champion, reigning U.S. soccer player of the year, and midfielder for the Chicago Red Stars, make up one of the most successful and sweet couples around. We learned a lot during their ESPN feature, including how they support each other...

The Linc - Alshon Jeffery is still one of the NFL’s best red zone receivers

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 8/14/18. Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ... Red-Zone Efficiency: Highest red-zone grades among returning NFL WRs - PFFJeffery’s debut season with the Eagles went as best as it could, catching 69 passes for 1,008 yards and a team-high 12 touchdowns en route to a Super Bowl win. And he did so by making his presence felt in the red zone. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound South Carolina product caught nine of his 11 catchable red-zone targets for 73 yards and eight touchdowns, the latter metric finishing second only to current Cleveland Browns wide...

Eagles fans have a favorite for the third linebacker spot

Eagles fans have a favorite for the third linebacker spot

Hint: It’s a safety convert... The fans have a clear favorite to start at the third linebacker spot, at least according to a recent Twitter poll. Corey Nelson has been promised more snaps, Nate Gerry was listed as a starter when the initial depth chart dropped, but it’s an emergency kicker that has captured the imagination of the fans. Whomst will take the 3rd most linebacker snaps for the Eagles?— Michael Kist (@MichaelKistNFL) August 8, 2018 Kamu Grugier-Hill has had an uphill battle to this point. A hybrid safety-linebacker in college at Eastern Illinois, teams weren’t sure...

Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Strong day for Philadelphia’s cornerbacks

Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Strong day for Philadelphia’s cornerbacks

Here’s what we learned on Monday. Today marked the 14th day of 2018 Philadelphia Eagles training camp. The Eagles practiced indoors since it was raining outside. Here’s what I observed. • Daily Carson Wentz update: Today marked the 11th practice in a row with No. 11 not participating in 11-on-11. (That’s a lot of elevens.) Wentz made a couple impressive red zone throws today. He had an absolute dime to Shelton Gibson. His timing and accuracy was also perfect on a comeback to Mike Wallace in the end zone. Unfortunately, the veteran receiver bobbled the ball before Ronald Darby was...

Mike Groh talks Christian Hackenberg signing, Eagles injury updates, and more

Mike Groh talks Christian Hackenberg signing, Eagles injury updates, and more

Plus, the Eagles’ OC talks wide receivers and Mike Wallace’s development. It was Eagles’ offensive coordinator Mike Groh’s turn to talk to the media after practice on Monday, and there were understandably a lot of questions surrounding the surprising addition of QB Christian Hackenberg over the weekend, and why the team felt they needed to add more depth at that position. Groh also talked about some of the injuries and rehab status for some of the guys, as well as a general overview of his thoughts on how the receiving corps is coming together. Here’s a breakdown of what Groh had...

Update on Alshon Jeffery’s injury recovery

Update on Alshon Jeffery’s injury recovery

The latest on the Eagles wide receiver. It’s been some time since we’ve had an update on the recovery status of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. That changed today with a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport: As #Eagles gear up for the season, WR Alshon Jeffery has remained on PUP. Though he’s progressing according to plan, sources say the timing of his rotator cuff surgery -- following the Super Bowl win – means there’s a chance he may not be ready for the opener. Could stay on PUP.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 13, 2018 The #Eagles have an...

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 8/13/18. Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ... FMIA: Smile, Jimmy! Garoppolo in Picture Perfect Situation As a QB - FMIADeFilippo: “Two things I’m going to give you. Number one, trust in his assistant coaches. He trusted [offensive coordinator] Frank Reich to pull the whole thing together. He and Frank both trusted all the offensive assistants to have our own areas and be the master of that area. So the trust on that coaching staff was earned—if Doug put you in charge of red-area plays, he trusted you to be the best in the league at...

Let’s see how former Eagles looked with their new teams in Week 1 of the preseason

Let’s see how former Eagles looked with their new teams in Week 1 of the preseason

The Super Bowl winning Eagles team lost a few key contributors this offseason. Here’s how they look so far in 2018. It’s sad to think that same team who won the Super Bowl just six months ago have in some capacity split up and moved on to other teams. Here’s a look at how some of last year’s Eagles handled the first week of preseason games with their new teams. Beau Allen — Tampa Bay Buccaneers The yin, to Chris Long’s yang last season was one of the tougher Eagles to see depart this offseason, but he’s been impressive for the team so far throughout camp. Allen started at...
