Utes blow out ASU in final home game of the season

Utes blow out ASU in final home game of the season

Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports In the PAC-12 era, the Utes have had a knack of blasting ASU at the Huntsman Center, and while ASU has been under performing this season, I did not expect that to be the case on Saturday afternoon. After a nice opening half of the game, the Utes really blew the Devils out in the second half and won by the score of 98-59. The Utes got out to a nice start, with a 5-0 lea, but ASU made a quick little run to close the gap, and eventually took a 14-11 lead. It kind of felt like nobody was going to stop anybody, but perhaps Utah’s offense...

The 2021 Utah Football Schedule is unveiled

Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports The 2020 football season was challenging, interesting, and reinforced people’s love for sports. The 2021 season looks like it may be fairly close to normal, as of right now, and as things potentially continue to improve around the country, we all may be back in Rice Eccles Stadium to enjoy the newly expanded stadium. The PAC-12 released the conference schedule, completing what we can potentially expect for the 2021 season for the Utes. It is a six home game schedule, with five conference home games. When you look at the scheduled,...

Late turnovers doom Utes against OSU

Late turnovers doom Utes against OSU

Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports The Utes had chances to get the win over Oregon State on Wednesday night, but they had one too many turnovers that cost them the chance. Utah had two chances with the clock winding down, but a turnover on a lob ended one chance to tie the game down two, and then a turnover at the end cost the Utes the ability to go for a game tying three. Utah ended up losing the game 75-70. The Utes had a nice first half, as they had both Timmy Allen and Alfonso Plummer clicking early on, both had double digits in the opening half. For the opening half,...

Utes upset USC 71-61

Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports In a shocker of a game, especially after the last week of performance, the Utes came out on Saturday and knocked off the No. 19 ranked USC Trojans at the Huntsman Center, getting their first win over a ranked opponent since they knocked off Kentucky a season ago. The Utes were led by Alfonso Plummer and his 19 points, many coming big in the second half. Timmy Allen had 15, Ian Martinez had 10 and Pelle Larsson had 9 as well. Mikael Jantunen had 6 points and 7 rebounds in his first game back from international competition. Things...

Utah WR Samson Nacua enters transfer portal

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports The Utes have lost their second starting wide receiver to the transfer portal in just a few weeks, as Samson Nacua has decided to put his name in the portal to try and find a new home. The Timpview kid had 1015 yards, on 82 catches with 11 touchdowns in his Utah career, and was one of the better pass catchers for the Utes, and was always reliable. His 2020 season was slowed by an injury he had early in the shortened season for the Utes. pic.twitter.com/UQpxKeZjLa— Lørd Įmpälêr (@lionel_nacua) February 27, 2021 Nacua joins Bryan...

Red Rocks Route Bears, Remain Perfect Against PAC-12 Opponents

Red Rocks Route Bears, Remain Perfect Against PAC-12 Opponents

With fans inside the Huntsman Center for the first time in nearly 12 months, the University of Utah Red Rocks gymnastics team put together another strong performance against the deceivingly talented Bears of Cal Berkeley. A relatively rough start for the Red Rocks, as junior Cristal Isa had the lone stuck landing of the rotation, as Utah opened on the vault as the home team, however her 9.775 was victim of the dropped score due to a low start value, with no gymnast able to break in the 9.900 range. Sophomore Abby Paulson and freshman Alani Sabado opened the bars with a pair...

Former Bama LB joining the Utes

Former Bama LB joining the Utes

Utah has been raiding the transfer portal for months, since season has ended, and now another name has joined the Utes. Former Alabama linebacker Brandon Kaho made it known on Twitter that the Utes would be his new team. Kaho was actually a Washington Huskie, but shortly after getting on campus in Seattle, he asked out of his LOI and went to Alabama. During his time in Alabama, he was mostly a special teams contributor, with 32 tackles and score a TD on a blocked punt. Kaho will join a nice line backing corps, and should add some great depth to the team.

UCLA runs past Utah

UCLA runs past Utah

Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports The Utes lost their fourth straight game on Thursday night after dropping a home game against UCLA by a score of 76-61. Things started pretty well for the Utes, as they really battled with UCLA in the opening half, and the offense was really doing a nice job penetrating and finding the open guy under the hoop, or kicking out for a three. It was a game plan that reminded me a lot of the Oregon game, and the Utes were tied at 22-22 with about 6 minutes left, as Utah was trying to slow the game down, and then UCLA started to get rolling....

Utes fall just short to Oregon 67-64

Utes fall just short to Oregon 67-64

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports In what may have been one of their best played games, still down two starters, the Utes had a chance to beat the Ducks in Eugene, but some empty possessions at the end, including a questionable double dribble call, doomed them to a 67-64 loss. Utah came out with a game plan, and it was a pretty deliberate one. Take care of the ball, and shorten the game as much as possible. The Utes did a very good job of that game plan for most of the game. Utah didn’t shoot the lights out, at just 45% on the game, but they didn’t let Oregon get out in...

Bruins Ego Bruised in Loss to Red Rocks

Bruins Ego Bruised in Loss to Red Rocks

With viral floor sensation, Nia Dennis in tow, the #14 UCLA Bruins hit the Huntsman Center on Friday night with upset on their minds, as they attempted to topple the #3 ranked Red Rocks. Senior Alexia Burch shined in the first rotation, nabbing a team high 9.975 on the vault, with no counted score falling below 9.800, giving Utah a two tenths lead before taking to the bars. The Red Rocks early success carried over the bars in their second rotation, where they opened up a .250 lead over the Bruins with a trio of 9.825 scores and a pair of 9.875’s from junior Cristal Isa and...

Utes lose to Oregon State after 20 turnovers

Utes lose to Oregon State after 20 turnovers

Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports It was not a pretty basketball game, from really either team, and even less pretty for the Utes who fell to the Beavers in Corvallis on Thursday night by a score of 74-56. They were led by Timmy Allen’s 24 points, while Branden Carlson had 16 points, and those were the only two Utes to score in double figures for the Utes, and really no one lease was close. Riley Battin and Lahat Thioune each had six and Alfonso Plummer had four. That’s it. That’s all the scoring fo the Utes. The Utes only shot 38.5% from the field for the game,...

Utes fall to Stanford on the road

Utes fall to Stanford on the road

Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports The three game winning streak for the Utes is snapped, after they fall to Stanford on the road to 73-66. The Utes were led by Timmy Allen’s 18 points, Alfonso Plummer had 14, Branden Carlson had 12, while Pelle Larrson and Riley Battin each had seven, and Ian Martinez continues his nice play with six. The Utes were still without Rylan Jones with his arm injury, and the news came out the Jantunen has went back to Sweden to play for his national team for a few weeks, and could be back before the LA schools. So the Utes were down two...

Utes squeeze past Cal on the road

Utes squeeze past Cal on the road

Chris Brown-USA TODAY Sports Were you like me on Thursday night thinking, “here we go again,” with the Utes against Cal? I felt like I was have deja vu as the Utes built a double digit lead against a bad Cal team just to see it vanish in the second half. Instead of a full on implosion, the Utes avoided the let down, but just barley as they got the win in Berkeley 76-75. The Utes were led by Timmy Allen’s 18 points, while Ian Martinez had a career high 16 points, Branden Carlson continued his strong play with 13 and Pelle Larrson, who had more ball handling...

Red Rocks Come From Behind to Secure Victory in the Desert

Mistakes, though mostly minor, seemed to plague the University of Utah Red Rocks gymnastics team in their matchup against the much improved Arizona State Sun Devils, leading to a dramatic road victory for the #3 Red Rocks, while securing their third straight cumulative score of 197.000+. Sophomore Abby Paulson’s 9.850 on the uneven bars was hindered by a slightly off kilter initial handstand, but was otherwise perfect, helping set the tone early, which was needed after freshman Alain Sabado had an awkward fall while attempting to transition from the lower bar to the...
