LeBron James misses shootaround, questionable for home game vs. Bulls

Cavaliers star LeBron James did not participate in shootaround for Saturday night's nationally televised game against the Chicago Bulls and is listed as questionable. The Cavs said James was sick. Since James returned in the 2014-15 season, the Cavs are 4-18 when the four-time league MVP does not play. James is averaging 25.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.9 assists while shooting 54 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from 3-point range. He is coming off his sixth triple-double of the season and 48th of his career Thursday night against the New York Knicks. The Cavs are 8-1 in February...

Cavs 116, Timberwolves 108; Jason Lloyd's 29 thoughts on Channing Frye's new role, LeBron's minutes

MINNEAPOLIS: Twenty-nine thoughts for 29 shots from Andrew Wiggins in Tuesday’s 116-108 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves… 1.     Such is life in the NBA, where the same lineup in which LeBron James is thriving is the one that makes Channing Frye the most uncomfortable. Frye has spent 10 years in the league playing like a 7-foot guard, spacing the floor and shooting with his feet set. Only now, because the Cavs don’t have a backup point guard, he’s been forced to play pick-and-roll more than any other time in his career. 2.     On the flip side is James, who is thriving...

Kevin Love expected to miss six weeks following knee surgery

MINNEAPOLIS: Kevin Love is expected to miss six weeks following arthroscopic surgery this morning on his left knee. The surgery was performed by Dr. David Altchek in New York. Altchek also repaired Love’s separated shoulder a couple of years ago. Under the current timeline, Love should return around the beginning of April. Channing Frye will start at power forward in Love’s place Tuesday at the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Derrick Williams to sign 10-day contract with Cavs

Six years later, Derrick Williams is a Cleveland Cavalier after all. Williams will sign a 10-day contract with the Cavs today and should be available tonight when they play at the Oklahoma City Thunder, a source with knowledge of the signing said. The Vertical first reported Williams’ deal. Williams was the second overall pick in the 2011 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves behind Kyrie Irving, which stirred a debate among fans and even within the organization over whom to draft with the first overall pick. Irving will appear in his fourth All-Star game this month, he has won the...

Cavs 132, Pacers 117; Jason Lloyd's 25 thoughts on Korver's role, resting stars and defense

INDIANAPOLIS: Twenty-five thoughts for 25 points from LeBron James in Wednesday’s 132-117 win over the Indiana Pacers… 1.     After spending a few weeks struggling to find a happy compromise with Kyle Korver and the Cavs’ offense, the two sides finally seem to have reached an agreement. 2.     When Korver enters in the second quarter with the team’s second unit, there are opportunities for more motion sets and chances to run him off screens, something he has become accustomed to doing throughout most of his career in the NBA. But when Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love return,...

LeBron James, Cavs not ready to decrease his heavy minutes

INDIANAPOLIS: The original plan regarding LeBron James’ minutes appears to have been postponed. He isn’t showing any signs of resting more anytime soon. James’ minutes were supposed to start tapering off near the end of January or beginning of February, yet he’s averaged 39.8 over his last nine games. He has dropped from the league leader in minutes played to second, however, behind Kyle Lowry. At 32, James is averaging 37.6 minutes per game this season, his highest number since returning to Cleveland. “He’s being bull-headed about it,” Lue said Wednesday. “He doesn’t...

Iman Shumpert out vs. Pacers, LeBron could sit Thursday at Thunder

INDIANAPOLIS: Iman Shumpert will not play tonight against the Indiana Pacers because of a sprained left ankle, but LeBron James will play despite the Cavs being in the midst of three games in four nights. Coach Tyronn Lue, however, said it’s likely James will rest tomorrow at Oklahoma City if his minutes are in the high 30s or low 40s again. Shumpert was off crutches and out of the walking boot Wednesday morning. He was even on the court taking shots, although Lue said he was supposed to be resting. Shumpert will miss Thursday’s game against the Thunder because of the ankle as...

LeBron scores 32, Love returns with big night in 111-104 win over Knicks

NEW YORK: For two days now, LeBron James has been asked about Carmelo Anthony. It’s only fitting, given the trade rumors swirling around both of these franchises. For two days, James has maintained the same answer: He just wants his good friend to be happy. It’s difficult to see how Anthony can be pleased with the state of the Knicks, who remain on the cusp of playoff contention but so far away from title contention. LeBron James scored 32 points and passed for 10 assists, Kevin Love returned with 23 points and 16 rebounds and the Cavs beat the Knicks 111-104 Saturday night at Madison...

LeBron fires back at hater Charles Barkley after commentary regarding Cavs roster talk

LeBron James has apparently had enough of Charles Barkley's opinions about what the Cavs superstar says and his legacy compared to NBA legends. After the Cavs lost 104-97 Monday night to the Dallas Mavericks, James made it clear to ESPN that he doesn't appreciate Barkley's rhetoric. I'm not going to let him disrespect my legacy like that, James told ESPN. I'm not the one who threw somebody through a window. I never spit on a kid. I never had unpaid debt in Las Vegas. I never said, 'I'm not a role model.' I never showed up to All-Star Weekend on Sunday because I was in Vegas all weekend...

Cavs 124, Nets 116; Jason Lloyd's 20 thoughts on a win, Barkley's comments and LeBron's reaction

CLEVELAND: Twenty thoughts for 20 free throw attempts in Friday’s 124-116 win over the Brooklyn Nets… 1.     We all know LeBron James is calculated and measured with everything he says. Yet in the midst of a difficult stretch of losing this week, James threw a hand grenade into the storm. 2.     After hearing him talk following this win, now it’s fair to wonder just how much he intentionally wanted to stir the pot just to see how his teammates and the organization would react. He already said the start of the new year has been lousy. Now he said he likes it that...

Kings 116, Cavs 112; Jason Lloyd's 45 thoughts on LeBron, Griffin, complacency and Carmelo

CLEVELAND: Forty-five thoughts for 45 minutes from LeBron James in Wednesday’s 116-112 overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings… 1.    There was no routine postgame icing session for LeBron James this time. No time to soak away his frustrations. This time James was dressed and ready when the media entered the locker room. He left right after he was done answering questions. 2.    James fired all of his bullets Monday. There wasn’t anything left in the chamber. And yet still, the Cavs couldn’t solve how to close out the Sacramento Kings. The Kings. The bloody Kings. 3.   ...
