Current, former Vikings help Minnesota high school get new weight room

Current, former Vikings help Minnesota high school get new weight room

A good news story My apologies for things being a bit slow around here over the past few days. Real life has decided to kick yours truly in the backside a few times and. . .well, this just isn’t a whole lot going on right now. But, we do have a good news story that involves several former and current members of the Minnesota Vikings to share with you. Some of you may or may not be aware that former Vikings’ defensive lineman Willie Howard is the head football coach at Robbinsdale Cooper High School, a position that he has held since 2010. Howard was drafted by the Vikings...

Wednesday Open Thread: February 24, 2021

Wow, we’re cruising through this off-season at a sloth-like pace. Merry Hump Day, everyone! Hey, is it just me, or is this off-season moving even slower than the normal off-season? Man, it seems like the Super Bowl ended a couple months ago. Well, baby steps will help us get through this, so for now, let’s focus on surviving the work week so we can get to the weekend. Anyone have plans for the weekend? Kiddo and I have a weekend of ice fishing planned, we’ll squeeze in some sleep here and there, and hopefully many meals featuring yummy walleye (or perch, they work, too)....

Tuesday Open Thread: February 23, 2021

Ugh, it’s only Tuesday? Merry Tuesday, everyone! This period of the year is my least favorite part of the year, I call it sports purgatory. Football has ended, baseball hasn’t started yet, and the only real sport being played is hockey. For some of you, hockey fills the void. For me, although I’m from North Dakota, I’m not a huge hockey fan, so the hockey season doesn’t do a lot for me. I’ll watch a game here and there, and I’ve become a fan of the Wild (and the Bruins, because I got a chance to meet several of their players when we were out in Boston, and they...

Here’s an impressive stat from the past five years for the Vikings

Here’s an impressive stat from the past five years for the Vikings

Photo by Leon Halip/ It’s pretty hard to believe Over the weekend, our friends over at Vikings Territory found what I think is a pretty impressive stat, and one that I think needs to be shared with a greater audience. So, in the event that you didn’t see it there, you can see it here. Throughout their history, the Minnesota Vikings are a team that has gotten a reputation for falling apart at the worst possible time. . .and, for the most part, it’s pretty well-earned. However, no team has been more “money” with a late lead than Mike Zimmer’s squad. Since the...

Monday Open Thread: February 22, 2021

We don’t comprehend the level of greatness we witness until many years later. One year from today will be 2-22-22. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing. Happy Monday, everyone! Kiddo and I got out for our first ice fishing trip of the year yesterday, and it felt great to get out on the ice. In a normal year, we’d have been getting out on the ice for the past couple months, but the winter has been abnormaly warm here (up until the 10-day Antarctic invasion that moved in 2 weeks ago and just left), and the ice depth on our waterways was inconsistent. so we didn’t...

Dalvin Cook becomes part-owner of team in new Fan Controlled Football league

Photo by Adam Bettcher/ This should be interesting Over the past couple of seasons, Minnesota Vikings’ running back Dalvin Cook has proven himself to be among the game’s most dynamic offensive players. Now, with the season over, he’s still got plenty of football on the schedule, but now he’ll be looking at things from a different perspective. A couple of days ago, the news broke that Cook had become a part-owner of a team in the brand new Fan Controlled Football league. The FCF is a 7-on-7 indoor league that will play a six-week season, with all of the games...

2021 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database, v1.0

Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports Yeah, kind of sprung it on you, eh? Well, kids, it’s that time of year again. . .time for yours truly to aggregate as many mock drafts as possible so that we can attempt to get a feel for what the Minnesota Vikings are going to do when the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around this April. Yes, the best and most extensive Mock Draft Database focusing exclusively on the purple is back for another season! As we’ve done every year since 2013. . .with the exception of 2017 when the team didn’t have a first-round pick. . .we’re going to compile a...

McCardell compares Jefferson/Thielen to great Jaguars combo

McCardell compares Jefferson/Thielen to great Jaguars combo

Photo by Joe Robbins/ And he would know New Minnesota Vikings’ wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell has seen some pretty great receivers in his time as an NFL player and coach. He’s coached a lot of them during his time as a coach and, you know, he was one himself during his NFL career. But McCardell has compared two of his newest charges, Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen, to one of the most dominant wide receiver pairings of the late 90s and early 2000s. That combo is the former Jacksonville Jaguars pairing of Jimmy Smith and. . .get this. . .Keenan...

Minnesota Vikings News and Links: Friday February 19th, 2021

Friday Open Thread Good Morning! Thank you for all the wishes and thoughts in the comments yesterday, I am loathe to put much if anything personal on social media because once it’s out there it’s there forever but I thought I owed all of you an explanantion. The big news yesterday was the Eagles trading Carson Wentz to the Colts for a 2nd and 3rd, (that second will turn into a 1st most likely) so......your move Vikings, get it done, or not. Meanwhile we’ll carry on with our news and links open thread full of crockpot recipes, nap strategies and beer recommendations;...

Pro Football Focus names the Vikings’ biggest draft blunder of the last five years

Pro Football Focus names the Vikings’ biggest draft blunder of the last five years

David Berding-USA TODAY Sports And they get it wrong We’re still about two months out from the 2021 NFL Draft, but there are places that are looking back at recent drafts with some takes, and one in particular from the folks at Pro Football Focus stands out for the Minnesota Vikings. One that I believe, quite frankly, is wrong. Mike Renner at PFF has gone through each NFL team and attempts to pinpoint the biggest draft mistake that each franchise has made over the course of the last five years. When he gets to the Vikings, his selection is the Vikings taking Garrett...

Photo credit should read CRAIG LASSIG/AFP/ Thursday Open Thread Good Morning! Just a brief note on a personal matter from me: I’ve taken some time away from the Daily Norseman here and there to manage stuff at home, which I have hinted at but never disclosed until now. If you’re a long time reader you know I went to the Vikings-Broncos game in 2018 (Hi MT) to spend some time with my wife’s father as he had a heart attack and stroke. He’s recovered (as much as he will) from that but his wife was just diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma which has already...
