ESPN predicts that Kirk Cousins will sign an extension with the Vikings

ESPN predicts that Kirk Cousins will sign an extension with the Vikings

Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports Come on in for reasonable, well-thought out discussion When the Minnesota Vikings signed quarterback Kirk Cousins to a three-year, $84 million, fully guaranteed contract during the 2018 offseason, it was difficult to know for sure whether or not the team saw him as a long-term fix at the position. He’s still relatively young, as he’ll turn 31 in a few weeks here, but not so young that the Vikings couldn’t realistically weigh the possibility of drafting a younger player to replace him by the time his contract expires after the 2020 season. Well, the...

And, this past weekend, they shared an opportunity to promote fitness in their home town before Training Camps get underway. MMQB picks Vikings to win NFC North

MMQB picks Vikings to win NFC North

Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports And, possibly, a first-round bye During his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, odd-numbered years under Mike Zimmer era have been very good for the purple. The Vikings won the NFC North in 2015 and 2017 under Zimmer, and have hovered around the .500 mark during the even-numbered years. (7-9 in 2014, 8-8 in 2016, and 8-7-1 last season.) Now that we’re less than a week from the start of Training Camp, we are starting to see some more predictions, and at least one outlet is expecting the Bret Saberhagen-esque pattern to continue for our favorite...

Weekend Open Thread Good Morning! It’s the weekend and even better my weekend off. Our plan is cram as much Netflix into Saturday and Sunday as possible, which knowing me is about two hours because I don’t sit still very well. We’ll be cooking what looks to be the last of the deer we have in the freezer on Saturday, not sure what we’re doing Sunday but it will probably involve the smoker......I’m thinking brisket again. The weekend open thread lead picture is of course HoF DT John Randle, one of my favorite Vikings ever. Meanwhile, we’ll catch up on our NFC North opponents...

Evolving the Vikings Defense

Evolving the Vikings Defense

Photo by Amy Lemus/NurPhoto via The Vikings’ defense took a slight step back in 2018. How can they prevent the same thing from happening this season? The Vikings have had a top 10 defense since Mike Zimmer came to town five years ago, and such was the case last year as well. But last year represented the first year that the defense suffered a bit of a regression in overall rankings, slipping to #3 in yards allowed and #9 in points allowed. Of course there was no where to go but down after the 2017 season, when they finished #1 in both metrics. Most of the Vikings older core...

One week from today Kyle Slotergoat™ Sloter starts his conquest for the backup QB job along with a lot of other guys who have something to prove on the practice field and preseason. Austin Cutting officially cleared to pursue NFL career

Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports He can put his service commitment off The only member of the Minnesota Vikings’ draft class of 2019 to not sign his first NFL contract appears to be well on the road to hitting that milestone. Long snapper Austin Cutting, who the Vikings selected with the last of their 12 selections in April’s selection meeting, has been officially cleared to pursue his career in the National Football League, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. A few weeks ago, we passed along the news. . .well before anybody else did. . .that the Department of...

Thorsday Open Thread Good Morning! I’m off service and not working for the next seven days, I have a thrilling week of getting the honey-do list taken care of while I’m off. Speaking of not thrilling, the Vikings pre-sale ticket thingy was a bust for me, I did get in and find some sweet endzone tickets but I looked and could have purchased them for less on the secondary market. We’re on the home stretch for the start of training camp, as I see Vikings related news during the day I’ll post it, if you see Vikings news on the twitterz or elsewhere that I didn’t see feel free to...
