Thursday Open Thread: October 18th, 2018

It’s Thorsday! Good Morning! Hope your work week is going well, I’m fully engaged with my new job so words and links will be limited for the next couple of days. I’ll take a mea culpa about the game thread Monday night, I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested in it and I was jammed for time so I didn’t do one. I’ll try to set one up for games in the future, however I’m not doing one for the Thursday night game as I’ll be at work. Feel free to do a fanpost game thread if you like. In the meantime, while we’re waiting for the next Vikings game to start we’ll continue...

A handful of former Vikings will be playing in the Alliance of American Football

Their season starts the week after the Super Bowl The Alliance of American Football is set to make its debut in eight cities the week after Super Bowl LIII. The league recently announced the signing of over 500 players to fill out the rosters of those eight teams, and fans of the Minnesota Vikings will see some familiar faces among the players signed. The biggest number of former Vikings appears to have found their way to the Salt Lake City franchise, known as the Salt Lake Stallions. The most familiar name among them is running back Matt Asiata, who played for the Vikings from 2012 to 2016...

Some New York media folks are still mad about Kirk Cousins, y’all

Some New York media folks are still mad about Kirk Cousins, y’all

Or, more accurately, mad at him For those of you that are old enough to remember, back in the late 90s there was a sitcom on NBC called Mad About You. It starred Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser as a newly-married couple in New York. . .well, they were newly-married when it started, anyway. . .and the problems that they dealt with in their day-to-day lives. Now, almost 20 years after the show went off the air, it appears that the phrase Mad About You can still be applied to New York, specifically in the case of their football team and the folks that covered them. Back in March, shortly after...

Vikings initial injury report: Linval Joseph, Andrew Sendejo, Riley Reiff sit out

The big guy sat out today with an everything In preparation for their game on Sunday afternoon against the New York Jets, the Minnesota Vikings got back to business on Wednesday with their first practice of the week. There were a couple of familiar names on the injury report for this week, and one that might raise a couple of eyebrows. Defensive tackle Linval Joseph sat out of Wednesday’s practice with what is being listed as an “ankle/knee/shoulder” issue. Joseph was listed on the injury report for Week 6 as having a shoulder injury, but he did practice in full all week in...

The Vikings are picking up a head of steam. Next stop: New Jersey, where they’ll take on the Jets. Merry Hump Day, y’all! We’re approaching halftime of this work week. It’s time to start thinking about the weekend, and all of the possibilities with the combination of a weekend and a smoker. I have a hankerin’ for a crab boil, but that’s more of an afternoon creation, and the game is scheduled to kickoff at noon, so I’ll either have to go with another option, or do the crab boil after the game. I must have the food ready prior to kickoff, because when the game comes on, all of...

A Brief Look At Vikings/Jets History

A Brief Look At Vikings/Jets History

The limited history between the teams has been rather one-sided. It’s time to take our weekly look back at the Minnesota Vikings and their opponent for the upcoming week. On Sunday, the Vikings will have their third road game in four weeks against the New York Jets, who will be hosting their third straight home game. These two non-conference opponents have both been around for quite a while, but they haven’t faced each other many times over the years. This will be only the 11th matchup between the two teams. Before the current scheduling formula ensured that no teams would go more than...

The Vikings are enjoying their first winning streak of the 2018 season. After outlasting the Eagles in Week 5, they took care of business against the Arizona Cardinals 27-17 last week. For the second straight week and for the third time in the first seven games, they’ll be facing a first round rookie quarterback in Sam Darnold. New York is on a two-game win...

Minnesota Vikings Power Rankings Roundup: Week 6

Onward and upward for the purple! With their second consecutive victory, the Minnesota Vikings are continuing to make their move back up the Power Rankings that are put out by football pundits across these vast interwebs of ours. They’re not quite approaching the heights they had reached in the early portion of the season, but they’re getting closer. Let’s take a look at our Power Rankings Roundup for this week and see where, exactly, the Vikings find themselves. Associated Press: #7 (Last week: #9) No Vikings-centric commentary from the AP this week. Walter Cherepinsky, Walter...

Zim Tzu is feeling Arizona

Zim Tzu is feeling Arizona

The Vikings warrior poet coach dispenses his words of wisdom ED NOTE: This has bad words. Most of the other things we write on here usually don’t, but this one does. It seems to be a popular bit, so until the law catches up with me, I’m going to keep doing it. Thanks for understanding, and thanks for not reading and not letting your kids read it if bad language isn’t your thing. Hope you enjoy the rest of our articles—Ted At some point, every warrior poet deals with opponents you try take seriously, but just can’t get worked up for. They’re inferior at almost every position,...

Latavius Murray nominated for FedEx Ground Award for Week 6

Latavius Murray nominated for FedEx Ground Award for Week 6

He’s got some pretty stiff competition, though In the Minnesota Vikings’ victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, running back Latavius Murray put up what was, by far, the best performance by a Minnesota running back this season. Now, he’s getting recognized for it. Murray is one of three nominees for the Week 6 FedEx Ground Award. He received this nomination after rushing for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in the Vikings’ 27-17 win. The competition that Murray is facing for the award is pretty significant, however. Also nominated this week are Los...

Vikings make several roster moves

Mike Hughes officially placed on IR. But who replaced him? Yesterday it was announced first round pick Mike Hughes would be going on Injured Reserve after tearing his ACL against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Vikings made that official a little while ago, and added DT David Parry to take his place: The #Vikings have signed DT @DavidParry58 and placed @_Bigmikee1 on IR. : https://t.co/UBdCJS9Qfe pic.twitter.com/l97EeepBSW— Minnesota Vikings (@Vikings) October 16, 2018 If you remember, Parry had a sack of Aaron Rodgers in week two during the Vikings 29-29 tie with the Packers....

Tuesday Open Thread: October 16, 2018

The Vikes are beginning their climb, we hope the trajectory is just right to put them in Atlanta in February. Merry Tuesday, everyone! Wow, I’ve noticed the general mood among my fellow Viking fans has improved a great deal in the past couple of weeks. It’s been nice to see, although it surprises me how easily some lose faith. Oh well, the team will keep building on what they’ve been doing the past two games, and this year will be a blast. This could be the season when I order that pound of Kopi Luwak, and I’ll be happy to do so. Plus, we have an undrafted player who is probably the...

Three takeaways from Vikings, Cardinals game

Three takeaways from Vikings, Cardinals game

Things seem to be starting to mesh The Minnesota Vikings secured its second consecutive victory. Minnesota is now with an above .500 record after beating the Arizona Cardinals 27-17. The Vikings improved its record to 3-2-1, and is in second place in the NFC North (Green Bay plays on Monday Night Football against San Francisco). Now that we are six games through, here are three takeaways I gathered after the Arizona game: Defense is coming around Look, I’ve seen tweets on twitter about how the Vikings’ defense is the worst in the league based off a couple of horrendous performances...
