Are Jose Alvarez’s Days Numbered?

Are Jose Alvarez’s Days Numbered?

Not a fan favorite, Alvarez has been struggling for a while. You and I both know the feeling of dread whenever Mike Scioscia strolls onto the mound, looks at the bullpen, and pats his right hand on his left arm. This year, and for the duration of my short-term memory, there has only been one lefty in the bullpen, so Alvarez trots in. He’ll use his litany of pitches, the fastball away, the breaking ball down, and soon enough, more often than not, someone smacks a baseball into a place we don’t like. The hitter runs for the hills, or maybe trots, and Alvarez hangs his head, but the damage...

J.C Ramirez shows resiliency & Angels strike back in Fenway with 6-3 win over Red Sox

J.C Ramirez shows resiliency & Angels strike back in Fenway with 6-3 win over Red Sox

Angels 6 Red Sox 3 Last night was bunk, but tonight was fire, and I am pleased. The Angels won a game in Fenway, but not only did they merely get the W, but they did it in convincing fashion, subduing the universally-hated Red Sox 6-3. This is good, because tonight, while my fiance is out with her friends doing the bachelorette party thing (we’re getting married in a little over two weeks), I’m at home doing the bachelor party thing. The only difference is her’s involves going to Hollywood with friends to see some hunks, and mine consisted of watching the Angels game while eating a...

What’s the Angels’ long term plan at second base?

What’s the Angels’ long term plan at second base?

It’s clear the Angels don’t have their future 2b on the roster. Where do they go from here? At the beginning of last offseason, our own Jessica DeLine wrote a piece titled Second base is the new left field, detailing the struggles of finding a second baseman for 2017. And despite most being excited at the acquisition of Danny Espinosa on the cheap, Espinosa has not provided any of the elite defense, low .200s average, or 20 home run power that was projected of him. Saying that he’s having a rough year would be an understatement. Perhaps this is related to his swing change earlier in...

On night where Red Sox honor that one guy, I forget his name, Angels lose 9-4

On night where Red Sox honor that one guy, I forget his name, Angels lose 9-4

Angels 4 Red Sox 9 I like statement wins just as much as the next Angels fan, like the series win in Houston and the recent beatings the Halos put on the Yankees, both home and abroad. Those were victories against some 1st place teams that announced to MLB teams and fans alike that they can run with the big dogs. That’s great stuff, don’t get me wrong; those were some of the best matchups we’ve seen in 2017. They were missing something, however; that component to a series that really gets my adrenaline pumping, where they not only win and all that jazz, but it’s also a middle...

RHP Eduardo Paredes called up to the Angels

RHP Eduardo Paredes called up to the Angels

(C.J. Cron sent down to triple-A, as the corresponding move) Roster move alert! LAA options C.J. Cron to Salt Lake & recalls RHP Eduardo Paredes...RHP Doug Fister claimed on unconditional waivers by Boston. #Angels— Angels PR (@LAAngelsPR) June 23, 2017 First, the good news. 22 year-old righty reliever Eduardo Paredes has tore through the minor leagues over the past few years, posting a career 2.56 ERA in the minors. That’s made all the more impressive by the fact that the average ages in AA and AAA are 24 and 26, respectively. He has a 10.4 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, and a 1.124 WHIP, which...

Brandon Marsh has landed with a boom in Orem

Brandon Marsh has landed with a boom in Orem

Marsh has torn up the Pioneer League in this first 3 games Talk about a small sample size - amirite?? But Brandon Marsh skipped over the Arizona League and landed in Orem this past week despite not playing ANY baseball last summer due to injury. Essentially, Marsh skipped over a year of development but he was working out hard in Tempe this spring. It’s pretty early in the season and I’ll have a full minor league report later next week, but Marsh has exploded on to the scene in Orem, Utah. In 3 games, Marsh has gone 8 for 15 with a walk, a homerun, and a stolen base. Just to show...

Series Preview: Angels @ Red Sox (Taking a Big Papi)

Series Preview: Angels @ Red Sox (Taking a Big Papi)

The Angels head to Beantown for a 3 game set before hopping a flight back to SoCal Guess who has the fortunate unfortunate luck of playing the Red Sox during the David Ortiz number retirement ass-kissing party? Yep! That would be the Angels and we all get to hear about how amazing Ortiz was during his career and will hear no mention about his failed drug test back in 2003. After all, the MLB commissioner is hearing none of that. (though he will gladly still railroad Pete Rose) The Big Papi show and David Ortiz Way aside, this could be an audition for Yunel Escobar as the new...

WeekEnd HaloLinks: Halos bust out of NY, land in Boston

WeekEnd HaloLinks: Halos bust out of NY, land in Boston

The Halos took the series with the Yankees, outscoring them 22 to 16. And now they take on the BoSux for three. Well what do you know? The Angels outscored the Yankees in their own back yard and took the series from what used to be the AL East leaders. Yesterday they came from behind and crushed them, 10-5. Now the Yankees are virtually tied with Boston, and that is where the Angels find themselves next. This season just gets happily more weird every week. I love it. Angels get 10-5 comeback win, taking series & Yankees exposed as a joke team

Angels get 10-5 comeback win, taking series & Yankees exposed as a joke team

Angels 10 Yankees 5 The Yankees and Angels played a series at the Big A last week, and they played a series in New York this week. About a week ago, the series finale at the Big A was an all out slobberknocker, action-packed from the beginning. Tonight’s series finale in Yankee Stadium was an bloody throwdown that ended up being the Halos’ 26 comeback victory of the 2017 season. I don’t know what gets into these teams in the finales, but I am loving these boxing matches between these two intriguing AL teams. Jesse Chavez had to be cursing under his breath a bunch in the first...

Mike Trout wanting to be an Angel for life and Arte Moreno saying “No” is my worst nightmare come to life

Mike Trout wanting to be an Angel for life and Arte Moreno saying “No” is my worst nightmare come to life

In this case, it’s not only my worst nightmare, but it’s my worst nightmare come to life! Here’s a bit of Angels news that surfaced today and should immediately enter the annals of team lore, but this piece of team history and trivia isn’t of the “oh, that’s a neat bit of info” variety, but the ”OMG, THIS TEAM IS KILLING MY WILL TO LIVE” kind. Do you remember when the Angels and Mike Trout came to a deal on his six-year extension, that would have him signed through 2020? It was a great day to be an Angels fan, because they locked up the burgeoning baseball legend for...

Thor'sLinks: Nolasco's Song Remains the Same

Thor'sLinks: Nolasco's Song Remains the Same

Ricky didn't pitch as poorly as the final score suggests. But he did give up a couple of homers, and the Halos did NOT score much while he was fighting for them. Pretty much like always. You know, sometimes it just happens that Ricky Nolasco pitches in a game. Sometimes it just happens that Ricky Nolasco pitches in a game and eats some of innings. Sometimes it just happens that Ricky Nolasco pitches in a game and eats some innings and the Angels fail to score. HERE Yesterday’s game featured the first perfect ABOX scores in a while! HERE Justin Verlander has nothing to do with the Angels at this time, but I would like to raise a toast to Jarrod Dyson, who avenged Erick Aybar’s memory by bunting for a base hit during a perfecto. And the Mariners got the win. Oh yeah, the Angels are playing the Yankees again. Nolasco is not pitching. Probables: Not-Nolasco (LAA) @...
