Have you talked at...

49ers rookie Kentavius Street will practice inside initially

The 49ers formally opened his practice window on Wednesday. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday that team would be activating defensive lineman Kentavius Street from the NFI list this week or next week to get him on the practice field for a few weeks before the end of the season. On Wednesday, the team formally activated his practice window. According to Shanahan, Street was going to do everything, including two live periods and then walk through work. Street remains on the NFI list, but he is allowed to practice with the team for the final three weeks of the season....

Marsh in concussion protocol, Tartt, Williams sit out practice

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their first day of on-field practice for Week 15 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, and a few players of note are banged up. Cassius Marsh is in the concussion protocol, and Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) and K’Waun Williams (knee) remain sidelined. Marsh will go through the normal protocol, which means he will have to be asymptomatic at rest, then asymptomatic after a workout, and then get through a contact test. Thursday and/or Friday will give us a better idea of Marsh’s status. If he is listed as limited on Thursday, that means he likely will be good to go on...

We take a closer look at some of the top ranked draft-eligible linebacker prospects for the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft. We continue right along with our breakdown of the top prospect rankings at positions of need for the San Francisco 49ers. Today, our focus turns to the linebackers. This is another position that will have the front office’s attention. There’s good news and bad news for the 49ers. The good news is that Fred Warner is a keeper. He has had his ups and downs but the promising rookie is trending in the right direction, and I expect he will build upon his rookie season, and...

Kyle Shanahan offers partial insight into where ‘Chocolate Door’ comes from

Oompa Loompa, do-ba-dee-doo, I’ve got another puzzle for you. Oompa Loompa, do-ba-da-dee, If you are wise you’ll listen to me. The San Francisco 49ers mic’d up head coach Kyle Shanahan last Sunday against the Denver Broncos, and one thing we heard was some of the names he uses for plays. The list included: Far right nastyBig flyTurboZelda14 DiabloX DragonChargerChocolate door Twitter follower @cubs2b23 suggested Nasty is a west coast offense term, but the rest of the terms are a bit unclear. Thankfully, on Wednesday, Shanahan offered at least a little bit of clarity as to how he comes...

Las Vegas to host 2020 NFL Draft

Las Vegas to host 2020 NFL Draft

Oh yea. The NFL is holding the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville, and on Wednesday they announced the 2020 NFL Draft will take place in my hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada. Frequently when I go to Las Vegas, bad things seem to happen to the 49ers. But, if the entire NFL is going to be in Las Vegas for the draft, does that negate that potential? 2020 is the year the Oakland Raiders are expected to play their first season in Las Vegas. The team, the NFL, and all 31 other teams are currently being sued by Oakland and Alameda County on antitrust grounds. Antitrust lawsuits are difficult to win, but it...

Ex-49ers’ RB Roger Craig: ‘I would’ve loved to play for [Kyle] Shanahan’

Ex-49ers’ RB Roger Craig: ‘I would’ve loved to play for [Kyle] Shanahan’

Ex-49ers’ RB Roger Craig dishes out his thoughts on Kyle Shanahan the Bill Walsh’s lasting impact on the NFL. One of the continued points of emphasis for the new 49ers’ regime has been to connect the franchise’s storied history with the current team in order to foster a winning culture from the get go. From decorating Levi’s Stadium with banners from the past to having former 49ers’ legends speak to the players, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have made a valiant effort to mend broken ties between the former and current players. The result of their...

The San Francisco 49ers are back at practice to get going for Week 15, following an upset of the Denver Broncos. They return home to face the Seattle Seahawks for the second time in three weeks. They were thumped 43-16 in Week 13, but Nick Mullens did surpass 400 yards passing. The Seahawks are coming off a 21-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings, and can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the...

Is Ahkello Witherspoon salvageable?

Is Ahkello Witherspoon salvageable?

It’s been a rough year for the young CB. Should the 49ers keep him? It’s been a hell of a roller-coaster ride for second year CB Ahkello Witherspoon. In his rookie year, he was a stud. PFF rated him at 74.5, and named him Honorable Mention on their list of “2017 NFL rookie rankings through Week 17.” (Reuben Foster was #6 of 10, damn it.) He got his first NFL start on October 29th against the Philadelphia Eagles, who eventually won the Super Bowl that season, and had a pass breakup, an interception and three tackles. The 6’3”, 198 lb cornerback has prototypical size and speed...

NFL Hotseats: NFC North

NFL Hotseats: NFC North

It’s onto the NFC North for our look at the state of front offices. Some folks have already been canned. Not more will follow AFC North | AFC East | AFC South | AFC West |  NFC East We’re going to go around the league, looking at each division and seeing what vacancies could open up for Black Monday. Chances are, there won’t be any in Santa Clara, but a coach could bail to fill one of the vacancies elsewhere. Today, we have the NFC North. Now we’re getting to the competitive divisions. The NFC North was on lock-down with the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers dominating...

Todd McShay mock draft features 49ers going for unexpected defensive line help

Todd McShay mock draft features 49ers going for unexpected defensive line help

Not quite what I was expecting. The 2018 NFL regular season has three weeks to go, and the college football bowl season gets underway this weekend. Apparently that is the time for Todd McShay’s first mock draft of the 2019 NFL Draft. McShay dropped the mock this morning, and used ESPN’s Football Power Index to determine draft order. That means he did not go by current record and tiebreaker status, and in turn that means he has the Arizona Cardinals picking first and the San Francisco 49ers picking second. ESPN’s FPI and Football Outsiders’ draft order projections give the Cardinals...

Joe Staley listed as PFFs’ No. 8 offensive lineman

Joe Staley listed as PFFs’ No. 8 offensive lineman

This dude does not age. Between George Kittle always getting into Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week and Mike McGlinchey getting all the rookie love, Joe Staley seems to have been left out. Or has he? The 49ers offensive tackle is ranked 8th on Pro Football Focus’ top-25 offensive linemen. Unfortunately, Mike McGlinchey is nowhere to be found on this list, but he’s done plenty in 2018 where not making the list isn’t an indictment on his abilities. Today it’s all about Staley and again he’s one of the best. Here’s what PFF had to say about Staley making the list (82.5...

Golden Nuggets: Kittle keeps making a case as top TE in NFL

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet Five yards was all that George Kittle missed for the record for receiving yards in a game by a tight end. Kittle was at his mesmerizing best on Sunday, leading the 49ers to a win over the Denver Broncos 20-14 to get their 3rd win of the season. The 49ers went into halftime up 20-0 and were playing well on both sides of the ball. In the 2nd half, the Broncos made adjustments that helped them get back in the game and the 49ers could not sustain any offensive drives...

49ers place Garçon on injured reserve, announce two signings

49ers place Garçon on injured reserve, announce two signings

The 49ers have made a few transactions Tuesday, let’s go over the new safety. The San Francisco 49ers made a trio of roster moves Tuesday evening, placing wide receiver Pierre Garçon on season-ending injured reserve and signing safety Tyree Robinson off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad as well as tight end Marcus Lewis. The IR designation for Garçon was discussed yesterday in Kyle Shanahan’s press conference. Garçon was dealing with a painful knee injury and will need to have surgery to get it cleaned up. Returning to the 49ers in 2019 will be a definite question mark given...
