2019-20 Predators Player Report Cards: Mathieu Olivier & Anthony Richard

Photo by John Russell/NHLI via The two forwards combined for just nine games in Nashville. As is tradition, I am tasked with grading the Milwaukee farmhands who earned just a cup of coffee with the Nashville Predators this season. It’s nearly an impossible task, but it also gives me an opportunity to touch on the years they had in the AHL and long-term expectations, too. For the sake of brevity, I’ve combined some players into single articles. Up first: Mathieu Olivier and Anthony Richard. NHL Call-Up Mathieu Olivier: The subject of the most controversial roster move of the season,...

Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Mikael! Mikael!

Photo by John Russell/NHLI via Wherefore art thou Mikael? Will Mikael Granlund have a seat when the season starts, or maybe head back to Europe? Smashville: Predators added tenacity at the expense of offense | Nashville PostThis remains the elephant in the room for me. They traded or let walk over 70 goals a year and got back around 30. Granted the remaining top-four forwards need to be better this year, but they also seem to be depending on some of the kids to blow the doors off. My personal theory is that David Poile and/or the owners don't believe next season is likely to happen on...

Fun Friday: The Jalen Ramsey Odyssey

Let’s put the star cornerback’s quote from 2018 to the test, because why not. Welcome back to Fun Friday, the show that isn’t a show (because it’s a weekly article) where we take hockey-adjacent concepts and take them way too far (this is a fancy way of saying “Eamon just wants to talk about his dumb ideas with you”). This week, we’re reminiscing on a quote from 2018, because why not? That year, Jalen Ramsey told the world that given six months of training time, he could become an NHL player; I wanted to put that to the test, so I created him in NHL 18 and watched his career....

2019-20 Predators Player Report Cards: Ryan Johansen

Photo by Dave Sandford/NHLI via The top-line center struggled to create offense, but found new life after the NHL resumed play. Ryan Johansen’s usually reliable gameplay was noticeably absent during the 2019-20 season—but the same could be said for nearly every Nashville Predators player this season. It’s not that Johansen was terrible on the ice himself, he just found himself stuck in a rut of not being able to create offense. There are many factors at play to look at when discussing why there was a blockage of offensive production for Johansen. Those factors are largely:...
