Nick Bosa's rehab and who could steal the show at the 2019 NFL Combine: Monday Night open thread

Nick Bosa's rehab and who could steal the show at the 2019 NFL Combine: Monday Night open thread

As we crawl towards the 2019 NFL Combine there will definitely be some interesting names to watch. Two that could represent the Arizona Cardinals first two picks in 2019 are Nick Bosa and Noah Fant. Bosa at the Combine will be about where he is in his rehab and how hard has he been working. While down times won’t be a nail in the coffin, it’ll be disappointing to see a player who took the time to rehab not be in peak physical condition. The other for me, right now, is Noah Fant. Fant, from people I trust, holds the school record for vertical at 42” and some believe he can run in the...

Cardinals’ 2019 34 NT & 34 DE Discussion

Cardinals’ 2019 34 NT & 34 DE Discussion

This week it’s time to discuss the Cardinals’ defensive personnel per position groups. As we know, the Cardinals are switching back to 34 base defense this year. Why the switch? The 34 base defense is widely accepted as a stronger run defense than the 43. In 2018, the Cardinals were pitiful at stopping the run. The irony is that DTs Corey Peters and Rodney Gunter graded out (per PFF) as the 4th and 5th best run stoppers in the NFC West. However, the Cardinals’ linebackers and edges were soft. Inside holes weren’t being plugged quickly enough (thanks in part to Ts, Gs and Cs getting...

Josh Rosen gets in car accident, let's everyone know he is okay

Josh Rosen gets in car accident, let's everyone know he is okay

Josh Rosen took an absolute beating in his 2018 rookie season. He was sacked 45 times in his debut season, and his 10.3% sack rate was the fifth highest in the NFL in 2018. Well, it's the offseason and Rosen is still getting hit, this time in his Tesla. Yep, the Arizona Cardinals young quarterback can't even get through the offseason without getting hit. Rosen obviously sent the picture out with the caption that he's okay, but his Tesla was pretty beat up and if he was driving, it of course was on that side of the car which means he took the brunt of the impact. Of course, if...

Is former Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall destined for the Arizona Cardinals?

Is former Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall destined for the Arizona Cardinals?

When free agency hits the names that will be associated with the Arizona Cardinals will undoubtedly be offensive line based. However, one name to keep an eye on on the other side of the ball is Brandon Marshall, formerly of the Denver Broncos. Marshall will become a free agent once the Broncos decide to opt out of his contract. That means, one of the bigger needs for the Arizona Cardinals over the last four seasons, despite three top 50 picks used on the linebacker position, could be addressed by the Cardinals. Marshall has an intimate knowledge of the Joseph defense, but also has seen a...

Cardinals projected to land free agent center Matt Paradis by PFF

As we get closer to the to getting into NFL free agency, there is one certainty when it comes to the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals need to improve their offensive line. While fixing the line has been Steve Keim's goal since he took over as general manager all the way back in 2013, he's definitely not been able to find the right combination of players to do so. That's why, as we head into the 2019 NFL offseason, the speculation of what the Arizona Cardinals will do will heavily feature addressing the offensive line. Enter Pro Football Focus, as they have added their choices of where they...

Talk about the AAF with your friends at Revenge of the Birds. Welcome to week two of the 2019 AAF season. It is Saturday in February, where there is little sports going on. Oh sure, if you’d like to check out a hockey game, or the NBA All Star game, those are some options, but today we are blessed, maybe cursed, with two more AAF games. The first game is a look at maybe the team that will be competing with your own Arizona Hotshots for the AAF title. Tony Pauline has Arizona Cardinals taking Quinnen Williams with the first pick... And cutting Robert Nkemdiche

Another mock draft, but the news with it is a little more interesting. As the cycle of 2019 NFL Mock Drafts ramps up, one thing we have been debating is the merits of who should be taken first. While some even have discussed Kyler Murray, this site has been pretty strong in their belief it will come down to one of three players: Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams or Josh Allen. In fact, that is how I would rank the three as they come out of college now heading into the 2019 NFL Combine. Tony Pauline, a long time NFL Draft pundit and insider was on an LA based sports podcast and had some...

Chain Moving Creativity

Chain Moving Creativity

At Houston, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, Kliff Kingsbury was a chain moving wizard. When one looks at the key offensive production stats—-QB completion %, QB combined TDs (passing and rushing), points per game, first downs, 3rd down conversion % and QBR—-the consistent production he got from Case Keenum (Houston 2011), Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M 2012) and Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech 2015 & 2016) is astonishing. 2011 Keenum: 71.0%, 51 TDs, 49.3 ppg, 393 1st downs, 50.7 3rd down %, 174.0 QBR. 2012 Manziel: 68.0%, 47 TDs, 44.5 ppg, 357 1st downs, 54.8 3rd down %, 155.3 QBR. 2015 Mahomes: 63.5...

SB Nation’s new 2019 NFL Mock Draft has the Arizona Cardinals with Nick Bosa at the top

SB Nation’s new 2019 NFL Mock Draft has the Arizona Cardinals with Nick Bosa at the top

The Cardinals keep the pick and take Nick Bosa with the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It is Friday, so let’s get as many 2019 NFL Mock Drafts on the board as possible. This is Dan Kadar’s newest mock draft for SB Nation and it plays out well for the Arizona Cardinals. 1. Arizona Cardinals: Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State Trading the first pick in the NFL Draft is rare. It’s only happened three times since 2000, and all of those trades were for quarterbacks (Jared Goff and the Rams in 2016; Eli Manning and the Giants in 2004; and Michael Vick and Atlanta in 2001). It’s unlikely to...
