In their preseason opener, the Blackhawks fell 4-1 on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The scoring started quickly, with Alexandre Fortin taking a drop pass from Dominik Kahun and firing a wrist shot through the legs of old friend Jean-Francois Berube. Kahun frees up Fortin, and Alex doesn't miss! #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/H7loCZyIxB— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) September 18, 2018 That was one of the...

Bettman: NHL envisions playing regular-season games in China

The Blackhawks have played games in Europe. With the NHL dropping the puck on the preseason Saturday in China, commissioner Gary Bettman believes regular-season games there are the next logical step. Gary Bettman said he envisions the NHL eventually playing regular season games in China, that that would be the next step. They are in discussions about coming back next year to play preseason games. What does Murphy’s injury mean for Hawks, Jokiharju?

The 2017 first-round pick has a chance to make Chicago’s NHL roster. Henri Jokiharju’s No. 1 offseason goal might become a reality at the expense of teammate Connor Murphy. Jokiharju was adamant in June that his top priority heading into the season was to make the Chicago Blackhawks’ roster. And his path to achieving his goal became a lot easier Friday morning before training camp when the team announced Murphy would miss two months with a back injury. With Murphy sidelined for at least 19 regular-season games, the Hawks will need to add depth to their right side on defense. That’s...

Chelios then hung a Mikita sweater outside the television booth before singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Chris Chelios honored the late Stan Mikita during the seventh inning stretch of the Chicago Cubs game Friday night at Wrigley Field. Chelios — who was named a Chicago Blackhawks team ambassador in July after leaving the Detroit Red Wings organization — dedicated the stretch to Mikita, who died Aug. 7 at age 78. “Hey, Chicago. It’s great to be back home,” Chelios said. “We just lost one of our greatest icons. One of the greatest ever. To Jill (Mikita), to the...
