What condition the position is in: Offensive tackle

We check on each Raiders position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Donald Penn, Breno Giacomini Backups: Kolton Miller, Brandon Parker, David Sharpe, Vadal Alexander, Jylan Ware, Ian Silberman After missing the final two games of last season, Donald Penn is back. He has spent the offseason recovering from knee surgery, but there’s no reason not to expect he’ll be ready for camp. He had a bit of a down season last year, but it was on par with the rest of the line that struggled to acclimate to the new scheme. All the Raiders...

Watch: Raiders rookies say who they’d most like to sack, Maurice Hurst’s answer is hilarious

Watch: Raiders rookies say who they’d most like to sack, Maurice Hurst’s answer is hilarious

Today several Raiders rookies did a facebook live session at facebook HQ. Among the questions they took was who each of the pass rushers would most like to sack. Arden Key got it started, saying Philip Rivers, because he’s in the division. Then he said Ben Roethlisberger, which PJ Hill said as well because he grew up a Steelers fan. The best answer came from Maurice Hurst who hilariously clowns Tom Brady. “I grew up in Boston. It would just be crazy to get a sack on Tom Brady,” said Hurst. “I mean he’s been playing since the early 1900s, so I mean... Just like getting that...

SI reveals interesting details on Paul Guenther relationship with Gruden, views of Raiders defense

SI reveals interesting details on Paul Guenther relationship with Gruden, views of Raiders defense

The Raiders new defensive coordinator drops some interesting nuggets. One of Jon Gruden’s first move as Raiders new head coach was to hire former Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther. As one of the most respected defensive minds in football, he was highly sought after by a number of teams, but eventually decided to join Gruden in Oakland. Guenther sat down with Sports Illustrated recently and there was some pretty interesting details that came from it. For instance, the two coaches began deep discussion in late December. The two coaches — who had known each other for years —...

What condition Raiders position is in ahead of training camp: Tight end

We check on each Raiders position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Jared Cook, Lee Smith Backups: Derek Carrier, Pharaoh Brown, Marcus Baugh, Paul Butler Leading off this group is the Raiders leading receiver last season with 688 yards. Even is a down season for the offense, Cook put up a career high 54 catches. There was some question whether he would be in Gruden’s plans this season, but he stayed and recently gushed about how well Cook his picking up the offense and his skillset. Lee Smith returns as the team’s goon. The 6-6,...

Countdown to kickoff: 80 is Saeed Blacknall and a couple of huge Raiders playoff moments

Countdown to kickoff: 80 is Saeed Blacknall and a couple of huge Raiders playoff moments

Nice round number — 80 days. Doesn’t seem like a long time, really. That’s how long until the Raiders kick off the 2018 season. There’s a new number 80 in Oakland. It’s a great number, but Saeed Blacknall will need to fight past a lot of other receivers if he hopes to keep it. The undrafted rookie had just 50 catches for 979 yards in four years at Penn State. He’s here though, so his lack of stats clearly isn’t a dealbreaker. The last guy to wear number 80 was another undrafted free agent who had little stats to speak of. Rod Streater managed to do pretty well for himself...

Watch: Raiders new fullback makes crazy one-handed grab...from a moving jet ski

Today the Raiders swapped out fullbacks for like the fourth time this offseason. The newest addition is former Marshall tight end Ryan Yurachek. He may be a fullback for the Raiders, but he also adds something as a receiving threat. If his 143 receptions in four seasons at Marshall didn’t prove that enough, this video should. We are @yurachek_MU85 days until @HerdFB kicks off it’s 2018-2019 season pic.twitter.com/8HqFQdhtQc— Barstool Marshall (@BarstoolMU) June 8, 2018 Here, Yurachek can be seen riding a jet ski at what appears to be full speed by a dock, where a kid on the dock...

Watch: Marquette King pops by Raiders HQ to remind them why they cut his goofy ass

Watch: Marquette King pops by Raiders HQ to remind them why they cut his goofy ass

Most Raiders fans had grown tired of Marquette King’s antics some time ago. What was once considered refreshingly ridiculous became just plain annoying. When Gruden came onboard, one of his first roster moves was to rid the team of their obnoxious punter. He found work quickly, signing on with Raiders rival Broncos. One would expect he hasn’t quite had time to find a new home in the Denver area quite yet, and with offseason practices done, he was back in Oakland. And, of course, he gets board and has to showcase himself, so he had someone video him staging a jog in front of Raiders...

All-time Raiders fantasy draft results: Rounds 2-3 complete

Our Silver & Black Pride staff has been working through the All-time Raiders fantasy draft the past couple days. We are now through three rounds and some pretty amazing looking squads are developing. Ryan led off the draft with Bo, then added Nnamdi Asomugha at the end of the second round and original Raiders Hall of Famer Jim Otto to begin the third. Goro was all about the secondary, starting with CWood and then adding Jack Tatum and Lester Hayes. BD Williams started with Highway 63, got his QB in the second round...

Gruden swaps out fullbacks again

Gruden swaps out fullbacks again

Gruden has been going through fullbacks since he arrived. We know Jon Gruden likes his fullbacks. But he just can’t make up his mind who he likes best. Oakland has been a revolving door of fullbacks since he arrived. When he got the job in January, his fullback was Jamize Olawale. Knowing Gruden’s affinity for the position, it seems like good news for the underutilized receiving threat. That didn’t turn out to be the case. Come free agency, Gruden nabbed free agent former linebacker Keith Smith to be his bruising fullback. And late in the draft, he traded Olawale (back) to Dallas,...

Notorious index card using official Gene Steratore retires from NFL

Notorious index card using official Gene Steratore retires from NFL

Few stories regarding the Raiders last season were more strange and ridiculous than when game official Gene Steratore used a folded piece of paper to try to make a ruling on whether the Cowboys had first down yardage. It was a crucial first down call. The two teams were tied 17-17 late in the fourth quarter and the Cowboys were driving. Dallas went for it on fourth and one and the spot was very close. As close as you’ll ever see a mark, actually. Had the Cowboys not made it, they would have turned the ball over on downs. But after Steratore oddly whipped out the paper, folded it, and ran...

Bills DE Shaq Lawson may be on trading block, should Raiders be interested?

Bills DE Shaq Lawson may be on trading block, should Raiders be interested?

Shaq Lawson was a total beast in 2015 at Clemson his junior year when he had 12.5 sacks and an astounding 24.5 tackles for losses. That season was so good he chose to forego his senior season and enter the 2016 draft where he was drafted 19th overall by the Buffalo Bills. Since then things on the field have just not worked out for Lawson. He’s been more bust than beast in Buffalo. Bills head coach Sean McDermott said recently that Lawson needs to step up this off-season and GM Brandon Beane said in a Q&A with The Athletic that training camp will tell a lot about where Lawson’s career in...

What condition the position is in: Wide receiver

We check on each Raiders position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Amari Cooper, Jordy Nelson Backups: Martavis Bryant, Ryan Switzer, Seth Roberts, Johnny Holton, Isaac Whitney, Keon Hatcher, Marcel Ateman, Dwayne Harris, Griff Whalen, Saeed Blacknall Coop is still the number one receiver on this Raiders team. But this season is a crucial one for him. He was supposed to take the next step in his development last season, but packing on weight in the offseason proved highly problematic once an injury kept him out of camp. Then he was...

Countdown to kickoff: 81 Pharaoh Brown has iconic Raiders name/number combo

Countdown to kickoff: 81 Pharaoh Brown has iconic Raiders name/number combo

The number 81 with Brown on the back? Weird. With the announcement today of the training camp start dates, we know the first players report to Napa in 30 days. As for the season itself, that’s still 81 days off yet. Returning for another shot at the roster as well as the 81 jersey is tight end Pharaoh Brown. Former a very highly thought of prospect out of Oregon, he suffered a catastrophic leg injury that required major surgery with some fear he may even lose his leg. As you might expect, the road to recovery from such an injury is long and no team took a chance on him in the draft. He...

What condition the position is in: Running back

We check on each Raiders position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Marshawn Lynch, Keith Smith (FB) Depth: Doug Martin, Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington, Chris Warren III, Henry Poggi (FB) Lynch came on strong in the second half of last season, running for 625 yards and 5 TD’s in the final eight games, averaging 4.63 yards per carry. Had he been running like that all season, he would have easily reached 1200 yards and double digit touchdowns. Gruden brings in his lightning to Lynch’s thunder, signing veteran back Doug(ernaut)...

Answering your Raiders (and some non-Raiders) mailbag questions: Volume two

Answering your Raiders (and some non-Raiders) mailbag questions: Volume two

There were simply too many good questions in the mailbag to keep it to one article, so I broke it up into two. Here is the second volume of the mailbag. GERaider asks: Do you think the Raiders linebacker corps got enough attention in the offseason? What do you expect from this unit? No, I don’t. I like the Tahir Whitehead signing and that’s about it. I’m not high on the addition of Derrick Johnson and I think it was a big mistake not bringing back NaVorro Bowman. I realize he is still unsigned, but there are a number of reasons that could be, tops being he is waiting for the right...
