Raiders 2019 schedule: Examining toughest and easiest three-game stretches

Raiders 2019 schedule: Examining toughest and easiest three-game stretches

The Raiders’ 2019 schedule is one of the strangest and most difficult NFL schedules I’ve ever seen. It takes the Raiders all around the world and gives them well over 30,000 miles of travel in the year. The Raiders will get their new digs in the desert sooner than later, but they will pay the price this year it seems, Raider fans: Did you get a new stadium? Raiders: Yes. Raider fans: What did it cost? Raiders: Everything. To compound matters, this schedule is set up a lot like a baseball schedule with long stretches of home and away games. It’s just bizarre. With that in mind, let’s...

Raiders to play in three NFL 100th Anniversary Games of the Week

Raiders to play in three NFL 100th Anniversary Games of the Week

The NFL was founded in 1920, which would make this the 100th Anniversary of the NFL. The league is planning a season-long celebration of its success and commitment to not knowing what a catch is, and part of that is the Games of the Week. Each week during the upcoming season, the NFL will designate one game its 100th Anniversary Game of the Week, and it will be a game with some historical significance to the history of the NFL. It may be a long-standing rivalry like Week 1’s game featuring the Packers vs. Bears or Week 10’s Falcons-Saints game or Week 14’s Browns vs. Bengals Battle of...

Running back Darrell Henderson had pre-draft visit with Raiders

Running back Darrell Henderson had pre-draft visit with Raiders

Wednesday the pre-draft visits wrapped up in Oakland, but the reports of visits continue to trickle in. Including an interesting running back prospect according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. #Memphis RB Darrell Henderson, a possibility in the latter parts of the first round, has visited with several teams in the late 20s, early 30s including: The #Rams, the #Eagles, the #Raiders, and then the #AZCardinals at 33. One to watch.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 18, 2019 Henderson was known for big plays at Memphis. He is a mighty mite in the mold of Jalen Richard. I’m not so sure...

How brutal is the Raiders’ 2019 schedule? Let us count the ways

How brutal is the Raiders’ 2019 schedule? Let us count the ways

We’re not done ranting about the brutality of this schedule. NFL schedules are usually not much more than a nice bit of info to organize our lives as football fans. We want to know how the seasons will look so we can plan out that four or so months. This year’s schedule was a whole lot more. The usual ‘hey, look at that’ was more like ‘Holy shit, shield your eyes!’. I’m not talking about the strength of schedule either. That’s not news. We’ve known that since the final game of the 2018 season was played. On paper the Raiders have the NFL’s toughest schedule. It is what...

Way too early 2019 Raiders record prediction

Way too early 2019 Raiders record prediction

Well as you all know, the 2019 NFL schedule is out. As usual, the league office has decided to make things as hard as possible for the Raiders, who not only have the league’s hardest strength of schedule but also have a week to week slate that might be the most difficult one ever seen in NFL history. The Raiders will have to come screaming out of the gate. Stumbling early is not an option for the team this season, as they could easily find themselves winless going into Week 9 if they put forth the same putrid effort as last year. There’s a reason I called this the “way too early”...

Raider draft radar: Wide receivers

Raider draft radar: Wide receivers

Yes, the Raiders upgraded their wide receiving corps this year. But does that mean they will ignore it in the draft? Don’t be so sure. They got their deep threat in Antonio Brown and their X receiver in Tyrell Williams. They replaced Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson from last season. Then they brought in a couple one-year guys and cut Seth Roberts. They have starters and depth and draft insurance. What they don’t have is a lot of long term answers, especially one who can play the slot. Let’s take a look at the best options to fill the Raiders need in the draft. Marquise Brown, Oklahoma...

Raider draft radar: Running backs

Raider draft radar: Running backs

Up until a couple weeks ago, the Raiders didn’t have a starting running back. Since then they added Isaiah Crowell who has some 51 NFL starts under his belt and who averaged 4.8 yards per carry for the Jets last season. He may be able to be the starter in Oakland, but as Mike Mayock noted, Crowell is on a one-year “prove-it” deal, so he is not considered the long term answer at this time. Crowell should be a valuable addition, but even with his starting experience, he has never been considered a true every-down workhorse back. The team has Jalen Richard, but Jon Gruden likes him...
