Free agent Junior Galette responds to Gruden call for pass rusher: ‘Texting him right now’

Free agent Junior Galette responds to Gruden call for pass rusher: ‘Texting him right now’

Back in April, Junior Galette made a free agent visit to Oakland. They offered him a contract, he declined and left without a deal. Since then, the 30-year-old pass rusher has remained a free agent. With the season a couple weeks in, he’s getting desperate. So too, as it happens, have the Raiders. After two games with two sacks, Galette took to twitter to try and get the word out that he wants a job. Everyone blow up @JGruden3 Mentions Till I get Signed — Junior Galette (@JovaisG) September 18, 2018 That was Tuesday. Come Wednesday, Gruden was asked about his difficulties with...

Carr went for ‘manageable situations’ vs Broncos, Gruden looking for ‘more big chunk plays’

Carr went for ‘manageable situations’ vs Broncos, Gruden looking for ‘more big chunk plays’

Derek Carr was efficient last week in a loss. But the offense did open up some and Gruden wants that trend to continue. In one regard, Derek Carr’s stat line last Sunday was stunning. I mean, completing 29 of 32 passes is incredible. Over 30 passes with just three incompletions seems hard to believe. What is also a bit hard to believe about those completion numbers is the yardage total. On 29 completions, he had just 288 yards. That’s less than ten yards per completion. Welcome (back) to the West Coast Offense, folks. It’s basic tenets are to dink and dunk defenses to death. There’s...

Injury report: Dolphins Pro Bowl safety misses practice with shoulder injury

Injury report: Dolphins Pro Bowl safety misses practice with shoulder injury

Back at it Wednesday with the Raiders and Dolphins preparing for their meeting this Sunday in Miami. The first injury report has the Dolphins missing a key part of their defense. Pro Bowl safety Reshad Jones suffered a shoulder injury in their game against the Jets last Sunday and was not practicing today. His status will be worth watching as the week goes on. For the Raiders, it was a pair of rookies missing practice. PJ Hall is still not practicing with an ankle injury he suffered in the season opener and offensive tackle Brandon Parker was also not practicing with an ankle injury. The...

Raiders head coach looking for answers at pass rusher ‘It’s hard to find a good one’

Raiders head coach looking for answers at pass rusher ‘It’s hard to find a good one’

We’re two games into the 2018 season and only one team in the NFL has fewer sacks than the Oakland Raiders. That team is the 0-2 New York Giants with just one sack. The Raiders have had a sack in each of their two games, both in the first half, while the defense collapsed in the second half. It has head coach Jon Gruden searching for answers. Where could the Raiders possible have found pass rush this season? Some mysteries are just impossible to solve. Some suggestions as to why the team isn’t getting any pass rush are that they simply don’t have an elite pass rusher in-house. Though...

Raiders rookie report: Maurice Hurst gets first career sack

The Raiders may have just two sacks this season, but one of them comes from their 5th round rookie defensive tackle. Rookie first game jitters are out of the way now. Another week offered another chance to show improvement, but we’re still in the early stages of a long road for these rookies. Here’s what they brought to the table in week two. Raiders Film Room: Passing game in rhythm

Raiders Film Room: Passing game in rhythm

Week 2 against the Denver Broncos was an interesting game for the Raiders. Derek Carr set an NFL record as the only QB to finish a game with 90% completion and over 30 passes. As Levi pointed out, Carr’s performance answered a lot of the critics who said Carr was scared to stand in the pocket and deliver shots downfield. Sadly, Carr’s surgically accurate passing display wasn’t enough to yield a win against the division rival. The run game couldn’t get going and the Raiders defense choked down the stretch, but the passing game was a bright spot. Let’s take a look at a few...

Tell The Truth: Raiders can’t corral the Broncos

Tell The Truth: Raiders can’t corral the Broncos

At halftime on the road the Oakland Raiders were giving the Denver Broncos all they could handle. Coming out of the break there was a completely different story. The Raiders were able to keep pace early but eventually fell victim to the stampede. Making history and breaking rules Derek Carr rebounded from a shabby game with an NFL-record setting performance completing 29 of 32 passes for a 90.2% completion rating (NFL record for minimum 30 attempts in a game) for 288 yards and one touchdown. Raider-Nation has long maintained that when Seth Roberts catches a touchdown pass that means a...

Silver Mining 9/19: Clinton McDonald glad he ended up with Raiders, Division rivals looking tough

Raiders news Jared Cook’s rare size-speed combination unleashed in Raiders scheme Jared Cook has emerged as Derek Carr’s safety blanket in Jon Gruden’s offense as he is used to terrorize opposing defenses by exploiting matchups with his rare combination of size and speed. DT Clinton McDonald glad he ended up with Raiders Despite only being picked up off the street after Justin Ellis and PJ Hall’s injuries, the former Bronco played 52 of 64 defensive snaps scoring four tackles in the Raiders loss. Mcdonald demonstrated versatility by moving across the line, mostly rushing from the...

Raiders week 2 Ballers

Raiders week 2 Ballers

After the Raiders second half collapse against the Rams, it was off to Denver…where they had a second half collapse. There was some progress though. Or it would appear. This time they only blew a 12-point lead and managed to score once in the second half. So, the result was a crushing game-winning field goal instead of just getting routed as they did in the opener. In this one, it was a few plays that eluded them. The result was a late drive by the Broncos to kick the game winning field goal. Ballers Derek Carr, Amari Cooper The opener was an out and out disaster for Carr. And part of...

Raiders week 2 Busters

Raiders week 2 Busters

The Busters in another tough loss for the Raiders. Busters Tahir Whitehead Again, I ask you to pull your face out of the stat sheet. Whitehead led the team with 6 tackles (5 solo). But that doesn’t tell the story of his day. The Broncos weren’t getting much in the first half on offense. Their biggest play was a 53-yard run on which Whitehead was blocked to clear the path. He was later blocked on an 11-yard run. The Broncos had just 79 yards rushing in the first half and Whitehead was at least partially responsible for 64 of them while he was yet to log a tackle. To lead out the second...

Raiders call up Shilique Calhoun from the practice squad, drop DT Brian Price

Raiders call up Shilique Calhoun from the practice squad, drop DT Brian Price

Two weeks ago, the Raiders claimed Brian Price off waivers from the Cowboys and released former 7th round pick Treyvon Hester. It was a questionable move considering Hester had a promising first season and looked pretty good in the preseason this year as well. But the Raiders wanted to see what Price had to offer. Not much as it turns out. Price was inactive for the first game and played 17 snaps for an injury depleted defensive line last Sunday against the Broncos. And two days later, he was waived in favor of Shilique Calhoun. The former third round pick Calhoun showed the first signs of...

State of the AFC West after Week 2: Patrick Mahomes NFL record 10 TD’s in 2 weeks has Chiefs the team to beat

After two weeks into the NFL season the Raiders are the lone winless team while the Chiefs look like the team to beat in the AFC West. The Broncos and Chiefs are both tied at the top of the division with 2-0 records after the Chiefs beat the Steelers this week and the Broncos barely beat the Raiders. The Chargers bounced back from their loss last week to the Chiefs with a win against the Buffalo Bills. Raiders Week 3 Power Rankings Round-Up: Oakland drops in rankings again after heartbreaking loss to Broncos

Raiders Week 3 Power Rankings Round-Up: Oakland drops in rankings again after heartbreaking loss to Broncos

An 0-2 start never is treated well in the NFL power rankings put out by media outlets across the internet. Considering where the team had already started out in these power rankings, it’s no surprise then that the Raiders continue to be ranked low as the season reaches Week 3. NFL.com 28th The Raiders did almost everything right in Denver for four quarters -- except win the game. They fell apart. Gruden’s grinders were up 19-17 late in the fourth quarter against an offense that was parked in neutral all day. The defense had tired out, clearly. However, Oakland owned a perfect...

Raiders 2018 opponents had very good weekend, showing SoS may not be so weak after all

Raiders 2018 opponents had very good weekend, showing SoS may not be so weak after all

Every year we get caught up in the strength of schedule and what it means for a team’s chances the following season. And sure, there are some teams that will be just as good as they were the season before and some that will be just as bad. But there is also a considerable amount of parity in the NFL from season to season that can throw the SOS off by quite a bit. Take the Raiders’ strength of schedule this season. Supposedly they had the third easiest schedule this season. But if you watched the NFL slate this weekend, you wouldn’t really see that. If you think of it as 16 opponents...

Silver Mining 9/17: Penn shoulders blame for blocked PAT, Gruden says he doesn’t regret trading Mack

Raiders Raiders tackle Donald Penn shoulders blame for blocked PAT try | SF Chronicle “I messed up on the extra point,” Penn said. “I put that one on me. I’m very pissed about that, too. I don’t think, in my whole 13-year career, I ever got a kick blocked over me. That was the first time.” Jon Gruden says LT Kolton Miller will be ‘long term, big-time player’ for Raiders | Silver and Black Pride It was just last week that Von Miller declared Kolton Miller the best tackle in the 2018 Draft. Some thought he was just blowing smoke, but Miller was absolutely right. Miller has...
