Patriots announce first training camp dates open to public

The Patriots announced that their first public training camp practice will take place on Thursday morning, July 27, on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium.The first four public practice sessions have been announced and they will run from July 27-30 with morning practices each day beginning in the 9 a.m. hour. Exact times will be updated on the Patriots' training camp website at www.patriots.com/trainingcamp once they are confirmed in the days leading up to camp.Sessions are free to the public.

The rich keep getting richer.The Patriots, who have had themselves a pretty productive offseason, have added much-needed veteran linebacker depth today with the signing of former New York Jet David Harris.ESPN reported that Harris, 33, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Pats. Harris was released by the Jets on June 6 after 10 seasons with the team.

Patriots training camp is going on the road.The team confirmed a poorly kept secret today in announcing it will travel to West Virginia for joint practices against the Texans on Aug 15-16. Those workouts at the Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs will precede a preseason game in Houston on Aug. 19.The Patriots will also hold joint practices with the Jaguars in Foxboro on Aug. 7-8, ahead of their preseason game at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 10.

FOXBORO -- It was the type of play that, maybe another player in another practice setting, would simply let go by the wayside.But Julian Edelman doesn't really do the whole "half effort" thing.During today's organized team activities on the fields behind Gillette Stadium, Pats quarterback Tom Brady threw a ball that was slightly behind Edelman as the receiver was covered by Stephon Gilmore near the sideline. Edelman then leapt back, twisted in the air and reeled the ball in for a completion.

FOXBORO -- Wide receiver Julian Edelman may very well be a Patriot for life.Edelman and the Patriots have agreed to the terms of a contract extension, according to a source. The 31-year-old was originally signed through 2017, but now his status is secure for quite a bit longer than that.The exact details of the extension were not disclosed, as Edelman was still waiting to put the pen to paper, which could seemingly happen momentarily. The Patriots wrapped up minicamp today and have their ring ceremony at Robert Kraft’s residence tomorrow.
