Gym Advances to Nationals

LSU overcomes injuries and sickness to put away a tough regional field LSU advanced to the new eight-team gymnastics national semifinals with a tense but workmanlike victory in the friendly confines of their home gym. The Tigers didn’t rack up the big scores, some of it due to the usual bout of postseason judging we have all come to know and love, but also partly due to some strong tactics: LSU took the points on the table and didn’t try and go for more, putting the pressure on the other teams to keep pace and not make a mistake. For the first half of the meet, Utah and Minnesota kept...

MU's Swinson working his way back from injury

Messiah Swinson’s first season at Missouri ended before it truly got rolling. In the Tigers fifth fall practice in 2018, the freshman tight end tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg. That derailed any plans for Swinson to contribute offensively and forced a redshirt nearly a week after he first put on shoulder pads in Columbia.“It’s really tough. I’ve been playing football my whole life, doing some type of activity,” Swinson [...]

Kentucky’s season ends in Elite Eight

A special season for the Wildcats comes to an end in Kansas City. The Southeastern Conference champion game many believed Big Blue Nation deserved came three weeks later in Kansas City, as the Auburn Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats tipped off their Elite Eight matchup with the winner advancing to next weekend’s Final Four. With the Tigers’ Chuma Okeke sidelined by an ACL injury, the Wildcats’ suddenly had a clear advantage in the painted area. Specifically, star sophomore PJ Washington stepped up to set the tone in the first half. Washington followed up his 16-point performance on...

Chuma Okeke suffered torn ACL vs. North Carolina

Okeke was one of the best players in the NCAA Tournament before his injury. As the Auburn Tigers have reeled off 11 straight wins and made it to the Elite Eight, they’ve done so in large part due to Chuma Okeke. The sophomore forward has quietly become one of the best big men in college basketball, which has been on full display in the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, we won’t see Okeke back on a court anytime soon. Okeke suffered a knee injury late in Auburn’s blowout win over the North Carolina Tar Heels, and immediately, everyone knew it was bad. The worst was confirmed Saturday,...

LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton returns to practice Thursday

Tigers’ top corner was back on the field for the first time since November. LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton rejoined the Tigers in Thursday’s practice for the first time since a season-ending ankle surgery that’s kept him sidelined since the tenth game of the 2018 season. Fulton did not wear full pads with the rest of the defensive backs, but did participate in individual drills wearing shorts, a jersey and a helmet. Fulton’s participation comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering the 6-foot, 192-pounder was expected to miss spring practice in its entirety. Despite missing three...

Sarah Finnegan, D-D Breaux Named SEC Gymnast, Coach of the Year

A well-earned honor for the SEC Champs after a huge late-season surge. LSU’s gymnastics season had its ups and downs early, but the Tigers persevered through a rash of injuries to close the final month of the season on a crazy hot streak that propelled them to a dramatic SEC Championship victory in New Orleans last weekend. Senior all-around star Sarah Finnegan was a big part of that resurgence, and clinched the conference title on Saturday night with perfect 10 on the Floor. That, and a run of seven gymnast of the week honors has clinched the SEC Gymnast of the Year award for Finnegan....

Defensive Line Focuses on Youth This Spring

Tigers return a ton, but the backups will have their time to shine this spring. LSU will return three nominal starters along the defensive line, and really only one lose main contributor from the 2018 group in nose tackle Ed Alexander. But due to injuries, spring practice will be more about developing the rest of the depth here. Seniors Rashard Lawrence and Breiden Fehoko will be held out or limited in participation while rehabbing injuries. But both are known quantities at this point, not exactly in need of a ton of spring work. Ditto defensive end Glen Logan, who is full speed. Spring...

GAMETHREAD: Baseball vs McNeese St., 6:30pm, SECN+

After a weekend of pitching duels in Athens, LSU is back in BR for a few nights before heading out for a Thursday weekend series at Miss St. SO RH Ma’Khail Hilliard will get the start tonight, but the Tigers will have to patch this game together as the walking wounded list for the LSU pitching staff continues to grow. Coach Mainieri has announced that Landon Marceaux and Chase Costello didn’t make an appearance against UGA this weekend because of, say it with me now, “arm soreness”. That makes 8 LSU pitchers now dealing with injuries of some kind. McNeese (13-11, 2-4 Southland) has...
