*     *     * It's a windy Saturday here at CenturyLink Field as we count down to a 1 p.m. kickoff between Sounders FC and the New England Revolution. These two teams are last in their respective conferences, so expect to see two motivated groups. Injury issues, of course, are lingering for Seattle. Two forwards are out -- Obafemi Martins (knee) and David Estrada (eye) -- is looks like Eddie Johnson (hamstring) is undergoing a pregame fitness test, so we'll have to wait and see if he's available. A quick look at Steve Zakuani — the forward

We know Steve Zakuani mostly as an attack-minded midfielder on the left side. We've also seen him as winger in a three-forward formation, again on the left predominantly. But coach Sigi Schmid played Zakuani is a somewhat new role in Tuesday's CONCACAF Champions League game against Santos Laguna -- a second forward in the middle of the field. "It was the best option for us in that particular game," Schmid explained against Thursday's practice. The last-place Sounders returned to practice Monday after a day off to travel. Here are some quick notes: *     *     * --- Need an April Fool's Day joke? Coach Sigi Schmid offered one: "Sorry, just kidding. That’s not really our record!" --- And here's midfielder Steve Zakuani, though not a joke: "We're happy it's April now. Reminder: Injury reports are less formal this year, so these updates are what the team's have volunteered recently. Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid said after Thursday's practice that he has already ruled out midfielder Brad Evans due to the calf strain, so keep that in mind. Mauro Rosales has improved better than expected from that hit to the back Tuesday and should be available. Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid provided a brief injury update after Sunday's practice at CenturyLink Field. Defender Adam Johansson (knee) and midfielder Shalrie Joseph (calf) were ruled out of Tuesday's home leg of a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Mexico's Tigres UANL. Forward David Estrada (ankle) and midfielder Steve Zakuani (ankle) trained, but their availability is still to be determined. Reporters asked Estrada how he was feeling after practice, as well.
