A few quick thoughts on the latest Mariners roster moves

Big thanks to Darrin for posting the Aaron Harang trade to the blog, I was in a barber’s chair when it broke. When I first saw the tweet from Ken Rosenthal, who broke the news, I was filled with an overwhelming feel of … meh. It’s nothing against Aaron Harang. He’s a competent, veteran pitcher, who gives the the  Mariners some depth in their staff. The obvious reaction from some is … “Why did they get rid of Jon Garland then?” The answer … Garland forced them to make a decision that weren’t ready to make. The Mariners weren’t ready … Read more » Mariners Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. — Even before Jorge De La Rosa and Jhoulys Chacin dealt with minor injuries last week, the Rockies needed rotation depth. Kameron Loe added to the Mariners roster; Josh Kinney to 60-day DL

Kameron Loe had an "out" clause in his Mariners contract that he was eligible to execute as of today. Unlike Jon Garland last week, the Mariners did not make him wait. They added him to their 40-man roster this morning, making room by putting Josh Kinney on the 60-day disabled list. Loe has logged 15 strikeouts in nine innings of relief work this spring. He gives the Mariners much-needed veteran experience from the right side of their bullpen, with an arm that can log multiple innings if needed. And an arm that should hold up through the entirety of a season if no injury occurs. With younger a... Mariners Blog | Seattle Times

Mariners sign Jon Garland, Kameron Loe to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training

The Mariners signed a pair of veteran major league pitchers to minor league contracts on Tuesday after they passed their physicals. Right-handers Jon Garland and Kameron Loe received invitations to big league spring training and have legitimate chances to make the 25-man roster. Garland, 33, missed all of last season as he recovered from surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in July of 2011. He tried to make it back for last season, but he had setbacks. “Going into spring, I’d gotten off the mound a few times and I was going in the wrong direction,” he said. “Every … Read more » Mariners Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune
