After the Rangers concluded their practice, D Marc Staal (right eye blurred vision) and RW Darroll Powe (suspected concussion) stepped on the ice with the team’s practice squad, which also saw D Roman Hamrlik, D Matt Gilroy, C Kris Newbury and LW Micheal Haley on the ice along with G Cam Talbot. Among the drills the group did was a battle drill around the center-ice circle, with the player on the inside lowering his shoulder and applying pressure on the player on the outside to prevent him from getting in as the pairs circled the circle. Same lineup for Rangers, Bruins hurting

Both the Rangers and Bruins were on the ice this morning at TD Garden for their morning skates. The Rangers, who held an optional skate, will dress the same lineup with D Marc Staal (blurred vision), LW Ryane Clowe (suspected concussion) and Darroll Powe (suspected concussion) not skating and not available. For the Bruins, defensemen Wade Redden (undisclosed), Andrew Ference (lower body) and Dennis Seidenberg (lower body) are all almost certainly out, according to coach Claude Julien. Line trios tend to be temporary with the Rangers but, at least to start this Game 5, Ryane Clowe will have a chance to have more of a contribution than the 12:19 he logged in Game 4 as he returned from a suspected concussion. Optional morning skate for Rangers today

The Rangers are holding an optional morning skate today at Verizon Center in preparation for their Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Washington Capitals tonight. Center Brian Boyle (right leg) was among those skating. I thought that left wing Ryane Clowe (possible concussion) was out there at the start, but was mistaken. Boyle and defenseman Marc Staal (right eye) will not play tonight. Head coach John Tortorella is scheduled to speak to the media around the same time.
