OTM Open Thread 10/12: It is Tuesday

Photo by Winslow Townson/ ALCS bound! Happy Tuesday! Only just over a week ago the Red Sox we’re trying to avoid a four-way tie. Now they’re in the ALCS! Today was a day off for the Sox and Rays regardless but now so is Wednesday! Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox play at 2:07 PM ET and the Astros need just one win to advance. At 5:07 it’s Brewers and Braves. And the night ends at 9:07 with the San Francisco Giants vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. Talk about what you want, be thankful and excited, and be good to one another.

Today on Pinstripe Alley - 10/12/21

Photo by Maddie Meyer/ Tuesday again? No problem. Time keeps on ticking, and the LCS round is fast approaching. The Red Sox (groan) were the first team to punch their tickets to the league championships, upsetting the top-seeded Rays whose rookie pitching finally faltered. Meanwhile, the Astros, Braves, and Giants could all advance with wins today, or the White Sox, Brewers, and Dodgers could force Game 5s with wins. Lots to unpack there, especially the potential for having to make peace with the Astros in order to prevent another Sox title run. Ew. If you don’t fancy...

This year’s MLB division series have gone pretty much as expected, so far

Photo by Douglas P. DeFelice/ There haven’t been any major surprises. Through Friday’s action in the four MLB division series, everything is more or less going according to script (if we had such a thing). The favored Astros have won two straight over the White Sox, and the Brewers and Giants won their series openers at home. The only “surprise,” if you can call it that, was the Red Sox’ blowout of the Rays in their Game 2 Friday evening. The Rays are favored to win that series, though it isn’t terribly surprising that Boston won a game. What was a bit...

The Brewers have the depth to withstand the loss of Devin Williams

Outside The Confines: Don’t punch walls

Photo by John Fisher/ It’s as valuable a life lesson as any. I love to hear about weird and wacky baseball injuries. Did someone get hurt building a barn? Playing video games? Moving a statue in their bathroom? To be clear, I don’t love it when players get hurt, and you want to see guys make it through the whole season, but I’m often absolutely gobsmacked by the myriad ways professional athletes can injure themselves. This past week, Devin Williams joined the ranks of players who managed to seriously injure themselves in completely stupid ways. Brewers pitcher...
