Yankees Free Agent Hit or Miss: Pitchers Edition

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports The Yankees passed on many pitchers in this free agent class. How have those pitchers fared so far? This past offseason, the Yankees had a glut of free agents to pick from. Surprisingly, the Yankees chose to do practically nothing. Though the Yankees’ internal options have obviously excelled in the early going, it’s still worthwhile to look back at some of the options the Yankees decided to forego, as the season closes in on the quarter mark. In this first installment, I am examining the top five free agent pitchers and how they have...

Yankees Rivalry Roundup: Trevor Story has epic night for Red Sox

Photo by Maddie Malhotra/Boston Red Sox/ Boston’s marquee free-agent acquisition finally busted out, smashing three home runs to power the Red Sox past Seattle. The Yankees weren’t able to close out the sweep yesterday, dropping a tough one in the bottom of the ninth to the Orioles. Most of their direct rivals were off, however, so it didn’t represent much of an opportunity for the rest of the league to catch up. We did have a couple of games to keep an eye though, so let’s get you up to speed on what went down. Boston Red Sox (16-22) vs. Seattle Mariners...

Sporcle Friday: Three-dinger games against the Mariners

Photo by Maddie Malhotra/Boston Red Sox/ A somber look through the ages Last night’s game was frustrating for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that the Mariners’ defeat came primarily at the hands of Trevor Story. Story, who the Mariners reportedly pursued as a free agent this past offseason, hit a whopping three home runs to the propel the Red Sox to a 12-6 win. As you likely know, the record for most home runs in a single game is four. The feat has been achieved just eighteen times in baseball history, including one by former Mariner Mike Cameron...

In the lockout-shortened year, Hanson had an ok season there (5-5, 4.11 in 21 starts). Erik then signed as a free agent with the Red Sox and had a good season with a 15-5 record and a 4.24 ERA in 29 starts, making the All-Star team. While the Red Sox look to turn things around, especially offensively, and get themselves out of the hole they dug themselves into with their poor start to the year, one of the underlying storylines hanging over the head of the roster is the contract situation for some of their stars. Most of that focus has understandably gone towards Xander Bogaerts, who will almost certainly be a free agent after this season, and Rafael Devers, who has one more year of team control after this...
