Astros: Bukauskas having one impressive Spring Training!

J. B. Bukauskas may be the Astros’ fifth-ranked pitching prospect, but he’s doing everything necessary this Spring to climb the rankings ladder. Astros’ top prospects Forrest Whitley and Josh James may be getting most of the attention from the press, but Bukauskas is proving that he belongs right up there with them. He is quietly […] Astros: Bukauskas having one impressive Spring Training! - Climbing Tals Hill - Climbing Tals Hill - A Houston Astros Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Who's hot/who's not: Rougned Odor had a solid spring for Rangers, but these two pitchers struggled

A look at the highs and lows of individual spring-training performances with the Texas Rangers:Who's Hot Second baseman Rougned Odor has had a strong spring. Odor is hitting .394 for his last 33 at-bats and .342 for 38 at-bats overall. A year ago, Odor hit .200 for 60 at-bats in exhibition play and carried the downturn into the regular season. Center fielder Delino DeShields has a 14-game on-base streak during which he is hitting .368 for 38 at-bats. DeShields has not run as often as expected. He has four steals in six tries. In the spring of 2017, he was perfect in 14 steal attempts. Center...

Good news: White Sox crush Rangers, 12-2

Leury García leads off, goes 4-for-4 with four runs, now hitting .432 this spring After a tough stretch beginning around mid-March (or, depending on how you judge such things, mid-March, 2018), the Chicago White Sox have enjoyed a bout of better days as the final full week of spring training comes to an end. Yesterday, before an 11-2 Camelback Ranch thrashing at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks, news leaked that Eloy Jiménez, of the Santo Domingo Centro Jiménezes, had committed to the White Sox rebuild to the tune of six years, $43 million, or eight years, $77.5 million, or maybe...

Top 100 prospect and Aggie Corbin Martin gets a Spring Training start. Join the discussion. Strong pitching and a Carlos Correa home run, his first of Spring Training, yielded a 2-1 Astros victory over the New York Yankees yesterday. Wade Miley pitched 4.2 strong innings, allowing one run with 5 strikeouts. Here’s Correa’s blast. ?Your browser does not support iframes. The Yankees got thumped pretty good by the Cardinals today. Domingo German roughed up in Yankees’ loss to the Cardinals

It was a day to forget for the majority of the pitching staff. The Yankees have a two-game losing streak in spring training, everybody panic! All kidding aside, it was an afternoon to forget in Jupiter. The Bombers’ pitching staff got rocked to the tune of 11 runs, keeping the offense out of reach. For a full breakdown of the game, here’s the box score. In the meantime, let’s cover three takeaways. 1. Domingo German had his first rough outing of the spring. The right-hander labored through 3.2 innings of work, which seems more important than the results. He couldn’t find anything...

Yankees cut three players from spring roster

The Yankees are clearing up the roster ahead of Opening Day. Earlier today, the Yankees made a series of cuts from the spring training roster. According to the team, Billy Burns, Ryan Lavarnway, and Matt Lipka all were reassigned to minor league camp. Burns, 29, hit .125/.222/.156 with four stolen bases in 32 at-bats. The Yankees signed the speedy outfielder to a minor league deal back in January. As a career 81 wRC+ batter, Burns was always a long shot to crack the roster. Don’t worry, though, there’s a good chance he ends up as this year’s Shane Robinson. Lavarnway, on the other...

Red Sox vs. Rays Lineups: Time to get on track

Unless they don’t. Over the last few weeks, Alex Cora has mentioned multiple times that sooner or later, the results need to start coming. He’s said that mostly in response to some poor outings out of the bullpen, but it can be extrapolated to the entire roster. The Red Sox are talented enough that we really shouldn’t worry about anything to do with spring training (except injury, obviously) but at the same time you want these guys heading in the right direction heading into the real games. Said games are a week away now, so if they are going to get rolling this is the time. In...

NYY vs. STL: Domingo German vs. Jake Woodford

The Yankees are sending a top-heavy lineup to this road trip. I think we have hit the part of spring training where everyone is ready for it to be over. The Yankees have experienced an unpleasant injury outbreak, and now the priority has to be getting everyone healthy for Opening Day. Get tuned up and then move on to the regular season. Domingo German gets the start today, and he appears to have locked up a rotation spot. The right-hander has allowed three runs — two earned — in 11.2 innings. He also has displayed a good feel for his changeup, a much needed third pitch. Behind German,...

Did the Chicago Cubs miss out in adding a big-name reliever?

Hindsight is always 20/20. The Chicago Cubs didn’t add any significant pieces to the bullpen, instead relying on depth. With the pen struggling in Spring Training, is it too late to get that big name? This winter, it quickly became clear that the Chicago Cubs weren’t going to open the pocketbook up for free agency. Tigers projected to take OF Kameron Misner in mock draft

The toosly outfielder makes a good a case for a top-5 pick. Spring training is drawing to its close, and if various statistical projection systems are accurate, the Tigers will be far from competitive during regular season action. That means we have to set our sights a little further out as the losses pile up during the year. Luckily, baseball on the amateur front is coming alive, offering plenty of potential for what Brandon might call “a scintillating exercise in speculation and supposition” — mock drafts. An early mock draft written up by Taylor Blake Ward for his site, Who’s On...

Angels 2, Diamondbacks 1 - Chilled Offense

Cooler weather chills the bats at Salt River Fields Merrill Kelly hasn’t had the greatest debut for his new team, struggling with both control and his ability to get people out early on in Spring Training. Starts like these help erase some of the doubt that comes with poor performance. Kelly went 5 innings today, giving up just 3 hits and 1 run with 3 strikeouts to round out his outing. His only blemish was a 1-out double followed by a Mike Trout single in the 3rd to put the Angels on top early 1-0. He finished strong, shutting the Angels down in order to end his outing. He finished with...

Spring Training Game Thread #27: Dodgers @ Brewers

One week before Opening Day, the Brewers hope to make a late run at the Cactus Cup It’s the last few days of Cactus League play, and the Cactus Crew is still within striking distance of The Cup. Corbin Burnes gets the start today after learning he’ll officially be a part of the starting rotation. Plenty of regulars will be in the starting lineup today, with an interesting twist — Travis Shaw will start at first base, but even without Shaw at third, Mike Moustakas will get more time in at second base. Tyler Saladino will man third instead. First pitch is 3:05 p.m. CDT on FS Wisconsin...
