Yankees 9, Orioles 4: Aaron Judge hits two home runs

Judge had a great night at the plate. The Yankees played the Orioles tonight and won 9-4. Since the game wasn’t televised, this recap will be pieced together with the help of the box score. It is ridiculous that every spring training game isn’t televised in the year 2018, but here we are. Let’s start with the best part of tonight’s game: Aaron Judge. He had a great night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with TWO home runs and two walks. Seems like he’s ready for the season to get started. Check out the actual video clip below! Opening Day cannot come soon enough. #AllRise...

Miguel Castro struggles with command again against Yankees

Even with the addition of Alex Cobb to their starting rotation, the Orioles’ battle for the fifth and final starter spot remains relevant going into the final days of spring training. Cobb won’t be ready for Opening Day, so the Orioles will still need a fifth starter to open the season, giving...

Five bold predictions for the 2018 Yankees season

One week and one day until the Yankees open the 2018 regular season in Toronto. Is it just me, or has Spring Training flown by this year? I feel like it’s gone much quicker than previous years. Maybe that’s because Spring Training was longer than usual last year due to the World Baseball Classic. Whatever. Yankees Making the Team Meter: Week Four

Who has a shot of making the Opening Day roster in the final week of spring training? The Yankees are now in the final few days of spring training, so here is our fourth and final edition of the Making the Team Meter. Not everything is official, but we do have a sense that all decisions have been essentially made at this point. The final few days should likely only be for last minute tune ups before the season gets under way. So who made the team? Let’s find out together. Make sure you reference the legend below so you can track who is and isn’t making the team to start the season....

Yankees 2, Rays 4: That ended poorly

Things were good for eight innings, and then it all went bad in the ninth. The Yankees apparently lost tonight, but who knows, because it was a game we were not allowed to see. It is 2018, and yet somehow there are still spring training games that are not available on television. You would figure that the Yankees could broadcast a game that took place inside their own home stadium, right? Apparently YES thinks it can get better ratings from Yankeeography reruns than a spring training game in mid-March. What’s more is that there wasn’t even a radio broadcast either. If you wanted to...

Spring training: Yankees at Tigers

Neil Walker leads the Yankees against Detroit. The Yankees head off to Lakeland for a spring training game against the Tigers, and are sending out both of their new recent acquisitions. Neil Walker and Brandon Drury, as well as Greg Bird, headline the Yankees’ lineup in the road game against Detroit. Some others in the lineup that may make appearances in New York this season include Tyler Wade, Billy McKinney, and Gleyber Torres. Also of note is Estevel Florial, who gets the start in center field. Yankees at Tigers today at 1:05pm pic.twitter.com/nKTxFfjOho— Yankees PR Dept....

Yankees 3, Tigers 7: Tyler Wade shines in loss to Detroit

Wade’s double and triple led the way in an otherwise tame performance from the Yankees. This was yet another Yankees’ spring training game without video, but at least this time, there didn’t appear to be a ton of noteworthy things we missed. The Yankees went on the road to play the Tigers, and seemingly didn’t light it up in any facet of the game. The starters just scored one run in a lineup with a couple players who will make the team out of the spring. The pitching staff allowed a bunch of runs, and the offense in the later innings didn’t get enough of those runs back, losing...

A-Rod: Yankees' "breathtaking" offense could break records

TAMPA, Fla. — Alex Rodriguez thinks the New York Yankees breathtaking offense could break records this season.Rodriguez arrived at spring training Monday and had high praise for a lineup led by Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius. A-Rod is a team special adviser who has worked with a number of New Yorks younger players.Happy to be back and see so much talent, Rodriguez said Monday night. Its breathtaking. The Yankees added Stanton, the NL MVP after hitting 59 homers and driving in 132 last season, in a December trade with Miami. Judge had 52 homers and 114 RBIs in...

Blue Jays name veteran LHP Happ as opening day starter

DUNEDIN, Fla. — J.A. Happ has been picked to start opening day for the Toronto Blue Jays.Manager John Gibbons said Tuesday that the 35-year-old left-hander will face the New York Yankees and right-hander Luis Severino on March 29. Happ went 10-11 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 starts last season. He will face a Yankees lineup that could see Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez hit 2-3-4.Entering spring training, Marcus Stroman was expected to get the opening day assignment, but he was slowed by right shoulder inflammation. Stroman will start the finale of the four-game series against the...

Spring training: Yankees vs. Rays

The Yankees take on the Rays as we open up the final week of spring training The Yankees are now in their last full week of spring training games before the start of the season. Division rivals the Tampa Bay Rays come into town to face something of a bullpen day from the Yankees. David Hale is set to start the 6:35 PM game. Everyone in tonight’s starting lineup could make the team for Opening Day. About half of them—guys like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Didi Gregorius—are projected to be starters, with the rest as potential bench pieces. There is enough room on the roster to...

Spring training 2018: Yankees vs. Marlins

Just ten more spring training games to go! The Yankees are officially down to their last ten games of spring training! Today they will welcome the Marlins to George M. Steinbrenner Field. Luis Severino will face off against former Yankee, Caleb Smith. If you don’t remember, the Yankees flipped Smith to the Marlins along with Garrett Cooper back in November. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 ET and you can watch the game on YES. If you’d rather listen, the game will also be on WFAN. Yankees 8, Marlins 5: Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez homer in win

The Yankees got the better of Caleb Smith today. Another spring training game is in the books, and the Yankees walked away with the victory. After scoring just three runs total during the previous two games, the offense got back on track today. Yankee pitchers also combined for 15 strikeouts. The Marlins sent Caleb Smith, former Yankee, to the mound and he immediately got into trouble. Brett Gardner singled to start the inning, and Greg Bird put the Yankees up 2-0 with a dinger to right field. This was Bird’s first home run of spring training, so hopefully that means he is heating up at...

Spring Training Game Thread: The Opening Day Starter

Yesterday morning Aaron Boone named Luis Severino his Opening Day starter, a decision I’d call unsurprising even though most RAB readers thought Masahiro Tanaka should get the ball. Yankees 0, Astros 2: Offense musters just two hits

On second thought, I’m not mad that this game wasn’t televised. Tonight’s game was not televised, and it turns out that we were spared from watching some terrible baseball. The Yankees met up with the Astros for the first time since Game Seven of the ALCS, and they were shut out once again. Sure, it’s spring training and the Yankees didn’t use a full major league lineup. Aaron Judge did have the day off, but the Yankees certainly didn’t trot out the B-squad. The only player in tonight’s starting lineup not expected to crack the Opening Day roster was Miguel Andujar, and he has...

Spring training 2018: Yankees vs. Astros

Maybe the Yankees will actually hit Lance McCullers Jr. this year. The Yankees and Astros will square off for the first time since the postseason tonight. Jordan Montgomery is set to start the game opposite of Lance McCullers Jr. As you probably remember, the Yankees could not get anything going against McCullers Jr. during either of his starts in the ALCS.
