NaVorro Bowman likely to play for Raiders against Chiefs on Thursday night

Head coach Jack Del Rio, technically, left himself some wiggle room. Asked on Wednesday if newly acquired linebacker NaVorro Bowman would play Thursday night, Del Rio said, “Probably.” But the smirk on Del Rio’s face suggested there’s not a shred of doubt that Bowman will make his Raiders debut against division rival Kansas City. Bowman brings instant credibility to a young, injury-depleted linebacking corps. And the Raiders, 2-4 and threatening to plunge out of sight, need all the help they can get in trying to avoid a five-game losing streak.

Raiders, NaVorro Bowman agree to one-year deal

Give this to Raiders officials: They pounced on NaVorro Bowman before he could ever get out of the Bay Area. Oakland signed Bowman, the former 49ers linebacker, to a one-year contract Monday, according to multiple reports. Bowman agreed to a $3 million salary, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. Bowman, 29, fortifies a Raiders weakness at linebacker; they largely are unproven beyond veteran Bruce Irvin. Even if Bowman’s Achilles and knee injuries in recent years robbed him of speed, he still offers a strong presence against the run. Bowman...

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will return to action Sunday, two weeks after suffering a transverse process fracture in his back and complicating his team’s efforts to rediscover its offensive mojo. Now comes another challenge: keeping Carr healthy against a vigorous Chargers pass rush. Head coach Jack Del Rio made Carr’s return official Friday, after he fully participated in practice for the first time this week (he was limited Wednesday and Thursday). With Raiders right guard Gabe Jackson in limbo, Feliciano might start again

Right guard Gabe Jackson, still nursing a foot injury, remained limited in practice Thursday. But offensive coordinator Todd Downing sounded confident in Jon Feliciano, who replaced Jackson, if he is called on to start his second game in a row. “Jon did a great job,” Downing said. “He brings a tenacity and effort that I think a lot of teams would like to have. Seeing him out there and playing as hard as he did, and being able to grasp the game plan and prepare as a backup center and a guard and be so well-rounded, showed his versatility.” Feliciano...
