Sam Allardyce needs to stop talking about Everton

Not only does he come off as sour and petty, he just has no idea what he’s talking about. After such a promising performance on Saturday, it feels wrong to even consider looking back on the disappointing 2017-18 season, but recent events have necessitated one more look at an aspect of last season. That aspect, unfortunately, is Samuel friggin’ Allardyce. Look, I want to leave Sam Allardyce in Everton’s past just as much as everyone else does. In fact, I probably want to forget about him more than most, because I had to write about his tactics on a weekly basis for six months last...

SAM ALLARDYCE slammed Unai Emery’s tactics as Arsenal endured an opening day 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City. The Gunners were keen to play out from the back at every opportunity and it almost spectacularly backfired when Petr Cech comically narrowly avoided passing the ball into his own net. Arsenal’s defenders and midfielders crumbled […]

An Everton fan’s perspective from Molineux

The terrific following in Everton’s opening day 2-2 draw helped lay to rest the ghosts of seasons past In the end, the result seemed almost secondary. To see Everton let a late lead slip at Wolverhampton on Saturday brought obvious disappointment, but after the monotonous slog that last season quickly descended into, it seemed far more significant that, after an excellent transfer window and Sam Allardyce’s dreary reign consigned to ancient history, Evertonians felt together again. Matthew Chandler Wolves 2-2 Everton: The view from the away end Indeed, whereas...

Silva excited to work with Lookman, comments on other Everton players

New manager called winger Everton’s ‘present and future’ in Friday’s pre-Wolves press conference Marco Silva quashed speculation surrounding Ademola Lookman’s Everton future by confirming he is a big part of his plans. Lookman, 20, arrived from Charlton Athletic in January 2017 for a fee rising up to £11.5 million, but having found opportunities limited under both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, joined RB Leipzig on loan for the second half of last campaign. His form in Germany was excellent, scoring five goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances, and has reportedly been the subject of...

EVEN for the Premier League’s biggest hope-for-the-best and end-up-with-the-worst club, last season was certainly stretching it. The Toffees began it believing they could bustle their way into the top five, but by November were fearing a relegation scrap. That was ultimately avoided with ease, but Sam Allardyce was never the fans’ choice to replace Ronald […]

Everton Season Preview: Strikers

How will Everton look up top? Stats Tactics If Marco Silva’s past is any indication, expect big changes tactically compared to Sam Allardyce. One of the biggest changes we can expect Silva to make has to do more with the wingers than the striker. Most importantly, Silva has actual wingers at his disposal this season. The days of Gylfi Sigurdsson or a similar player being incorrectly slotted out wide should be gone in place of Theo Walcott and Richarlison. This kind of speed and skill on the wing, mixed in with overlapping full backs should draw defenders in and allow Cenk Tosun to play...

Everton Season Preview: Centerhalf remains the direst position for the Blues

Toffees’ biggest question mark remains in the heart of the defence Stats ^ - includes stats at the right back position* - Championship minutes Tactics Yet another managerial change means yet another formation change, somewhat. While Marco Silva’s 4-3-3 is not so different from whatever Sam Allardyce had on the chalkboard, what is expected of the players will be completely different. Silva’s system asks the front four to apply pressure on the opponents when they are in possession, but it’s the classic #8 midfielder that plays a key role here. The defence is expected to hold a high...

How to cut down Everton’s bloated squad

Everton’s roster is too big even before adding new players Everton supporters have spent the entire summer waiting for the club to do...well...anything. Last season obviously didn’t live up to anyone’s standards (except maybe Sam Allardyce), so it’s natural to clamor for new players. And yes, it’s very important that the Toffees get this summer right in terms of additions (Malcom pretty please), but there is another factor that needs to be discussed. Everton has too many damn players. Not good players, mind you, but players on the payroll and expecting playing time. There are...

Third bid incoming for Everton forward

RB Leipzig coming in with third bid for Ademola Lookman Of all the frustrating things that Sam Allardyce did during his time in charge of Everton, letting Ademola Lookman go out on loan in the January transfer window had to be one of the worst. The England youngster is an exciting talent and proved as much with his performances in Germany while on loan with RB Leipzig.
